PART ONE: THE INNER YOU
In Part One of the interpretations you will read two sections concerned with your individual traits.
The first section describes your ego (sun), emotional make-up (moon), learning and intellectual orientation (Mercury), relationships and sociability (Venus), and the expression and focus of your physical energy (Mars).
The second section describes how well you deal internally with the external situations that you experience in life. Your capacity for happiness (Jupiter), ability to tolerate restrictions and frustrations (Saturn), how you are associated with or relate to new or innovative ideas and methods, and radical ideas and events that upset the status quo (Uranus), how you are associated with or affected by public ideals, morality, and spirituality (Neptune), and how you are associated with or affected by public policies toward crime, toward the power of government and industry, and toward exploration, development, conservation and distribution of natural resources (Pluto).
SUN
The sun rules will power and ego. It is the core of your potential and uniqueness as an individual; who you are and what you are about. It represents the main direction and focus you want your life to take, and your determination to accomplish what you set out to do. It is your personal honesty and integrity, and the ability to command respect and authority, to impress and influence others.
SUN in PISCES ☉ in ♓
As the twelfth sign of the zodiac, Pisces represents the twelfth and final stage in the evolution of man and his place in the universe. Here, the desire is to use all that has been learned and assimilated in order to gain perfection; of man as an individual and humanity as a whole. This perfection leads man to his rightful place in the universe. Though not all Pisceans occupy their time with such lofty aspirations as attaining their rightful place in the universe, the notion of perfection is a strong factor in their personality. They find it difficult to deal with people and situations that do not live up to their idealized images. It isn’t that they can’t see things clearly, they just don’t want to accept things as they really are. Seeking greater perfection than the real world is capable of producing, they often turn to religion or other spiritual and philosophical disciplines.
Pisceans readily adapt to change. This trait is a strength because it is a survival mechanism, and a weakness because it makes them vulnerable to the demands and influence of other people. In spite of their sensitive personality and delicate physical constitutions, most Pisceans are survivors. Their adaptability allows them to outlast those who may be much stronger. Because they so readily identify with the feelings of others, and willingly adapt themselves to different people and changing circumstances, they risk the exploitation or loss of their own needs, ideas, and talent. The opposite side of the coin is that adaptability also allows Pisceans to gain personal power over those they understand so well and turn it to their own advantage. The fish is the astrological symbol for Pisces. The fish is pictured as a double figure seen to swim in either direction. This represents the ultimate Piscean choice; either to be strong and overcome weakness inherent in their sensitive nature, or to become the victim of this acute vulnerability.
Pisceans react emotionally to everything they experience in life. Before they take physical action, before they sort out the practicality of what they are doing, and before they reason things out intellectually, they give in to their feelings. Compassionate and fair-minded, they are not at all afraid to bend unbreakable rules if the situation demands a more humane approach. They make excellent judges, sensitive administrators, and inspirational teachers. Their surplus of emotions implies an addictive nature, and thus it is necessary to avoid habit-forming drugs and other substances. To maintain their emotional equilibrium, they need a private spot or at least a private time for daily retreat and relaxation. The most creatively stimulating and soothing environment for Pisceans is near water, preferably the ocean.
The modern ruler of Pisces is Neptune, planet of the spiritual and sensitive qualities in man. Ancient astrologers assigned Pisces Jupiter, a planet also associated with spirituality as well as thirst for knowledge and understanding. These planets represent similar traits and both of them influence Piscean personalities. They are idealistic, sensitive, and love to play martyr. They are often shy and would much rather impersonate someone else than be themselves. That’s why so many are actors, artists, writers, and dreamers. Their association with elusive Neptune makes it hard to predict how Pisceans will develop. Some of them are neat and well organized, while others become slovenly and careless. Personal habits are often a direct reflection of emotional reactions to their environment. Their imaginations are limitless, an ability that makes them successful writers of fiction or turns them into pathological liars. Unique ability to understand the abstract can make them gifted mathematicians and theorists, or it can put them so out of touch with reality that they make no sense at all.
As if to directly confront their own vulnerability, many Pisceans are daredevils and risk-takers, becoming race car drivers, aviators, explorers, and hunters. Their emotional nature can make them compulsive eaters who face a lifelong battle of the bulge. Sports and physical fitness routines are a good way for them to keep in shape as well as reduce their emotional stress. Horseback riding, dancing, skating, swimming or sailing are favored activities.
Piscean colors are pale green, purple, rose, and gray-blue. Vulnerable parts of the body are the feet and lymphatic system. Swelling, allergic reaction to drugs, and sore feet are common complaints, but their emotional nature can also make them vulnerable to psychosomatic illness. The Piscean birthstone is the aquamarine. The sea-colored aquamarine becomes invisible when submerged in water. This is an appropriate representation of the shy Pisceans who often wish they could disappear as easily. Flowers for Pisces are the orchid, lilac, wisteria, water lily (lotus), poppy (white), and pansy.
MOON
The moon rules desire as opposed to ego, need as opposed to expediency or reason. It describes how you feel about yourself, how you handle relationships, and how you emotionally respond to situations and experiences. It describes the flow of your daily functions; physical, emotional, and mental. The moon represents your residence and domestic environment. It rules babies and young children, your mother and other important females in your life.
MOON in SAGITTARIUS ☽ in ♐
Those born with the moon in a Fire sign want to turn their feelings into physical experiences. They do not initially view their desires from the standpoint of practicality, emotional commitment, or as lessons to be learned. Before anything else there has to be action, some form of instant physical gratification. As lunar Fire sign personalities, those born with moon in Sagittarius are idealistic and romantic. Their risk-taking, adventurous spirit and magnanimous generosity are a curse as well as a blessing. It leaves them vulnerable to those who exploit their generosity, but it is also the combination of spirit and attitude needed for enormous success in enterprises that more cautious people would be afraid to try. They are open and honest with a tendency to be too candid at times, especially in situations that require a more diplomatic approach. Impatience can be the biggest stumbling block to success. They are not reluctant to make long-term emotional commitments, but relationships or situations that do not encourage them to retain a certain amount of personal freedom, are not likely to last long.
Sagittarius moon personalities are emotionally adaptable to changing circumstances and different relationships. A duality of nature makes them appear fickle and emotionally insecure while at the same time, steadfast, and independent. Readily impressed by those with power and status, they seek to associate with such people to increase their own advancement; one of their main goals in life. Concerned with making an impression on others, they may be guilty of inflating their knowledge and importance. Attracted to architecture, art and design many of them also have talent for mimicry and acting. For these lunar personalities, the best opportunities are in writing, teaching, performing, sales, education and communication.
Women with Sagittarius moon make better friends than lovers, though their restlessness may lead to many sexual adventures. Friendship is very important to them and their temperament is not well suited to domestic life. Men with Sagittarius moon are inveterate chasers of the ideal woman. Their emotional nature is uncomplicated, loyal, and at times, amazingly prophetic.
MERCURY
Mercury indicates mental outlook, intellectual endeavors, the way you think and communicate. It represents ideas, methods, and information. It rules your hands and thus your manual dexterity and mechanical skills. Mercury also describes transportation; that is, how you get where you’re going physically and mentally. Do you speed with all possible haste or amble along taking a few detours here and there?
MERCURY in ARIES ☿ in ♈
Individuals with Mercury in Aries want to give full and enthusiastic expression to their thoughts and ideas. For them, the decision-making process is immediate. They avoid being subjected to protracted discussions or lengthy, detailed investigations preferring to leave such time-consuming situations to others. Their mind can be brilliant and sharp, but either their ideas, or the manner in which they express those ideas, can often lack subtlety and refinement. In some cases, despite apparent brilliance, they lack the organization necessary for their ideas to be of practical use to others. Mercury in Aries indicates individuals with acute senses, a certain amount of nervous tension, and frequently, a very quick temper. Their manner of learning and transportation tends to be rushed. They want to get where they are going as fast as possible.
VENUS
Venus rules your social attitudes and behavior, and your aesthetic tastes and inclinations. It is female relationships and social interactions at every level. Venus indicates your values. It describes romance, marriage and other partnerships, capacity for humor, and the pursuit of pleasure.
VENUS in ARIES ♀ in ♈
Individuals with natal Venus in Aries rush to enthusiastically embrace relationships of all kinds. They enjoy having fun and some of their pursuits may involve an element of risk. Their passionate eagerness can be inspiring and contagious, but a penchant for undue haste sometimes results in being rude. The combative nature of Aries also means they can be too aggressive in forcing their attentions or affections on others. Their social instincts are friendly and, most of the time, attractively uncomplicated. Unwilling to take the necessary time to make proper evaluations, they are not very discriminating in their values and relationships. This is something, however, that can be overcome with maturity and guidance. They are not likely to seek a peaceful or mundane existence, preferring to be active and among people to find their inspiration.
MARS
Mars rules physical energy and efforts. It describes the strength and direction of the physical force that drives your ego, fires your emotions, and encourages your mental endeavors and communicative skills. It describes male relationships and associations, risk-taking inclinations, and the physical challenges you are likely to encounter.
MARS in CAPRICORN ♂ in ♑
Individuals with Mars in Capricorn are aggressively ambitious. They act more decisively and with greater confidence when they are acting within the limits of what is legally and socially acceptable. They are also more effective when they know they are being observed, and when they know that what they are doing commands respect. Rejection in business or romance is not something they accept easily, and they continue to relentlessly pursue their goals in any way they think will work. The influence of Capricorn may mean a certain ruthlessness in their nature, but that is what it takes to succeed in the fiercely competitive situations they pursue. These individuals are often the ones responsible for bringing about greatly needed changes, and establishing institutions and structures that ultimately benefit many people other than themselves.
JUPITER
Jupiter rules your potential for growth and expansion on many levels; physical, intellectual, spiritual, cultural, and the accumulation of material assets, power, and status. It describes your optimism and aspirations. It represents your father and his position in society.
JUPITER in AQUARIUS ♃ in ♒
Individuals with natal Jupiter in Aquarius can operate efficiently within traditional ideas and institutions, while at the same time be receptive to ideas and activities which seem fantastic or bizarre to other people. Indeed, they are apt to experience their greatest personal progress and growth by successfully dealing with situations that involve rebelling against tradition or the established order. These individuals are likely to possess extremely broad-minded social attitudes. They can be effective catalysts within various organizations and groups.
SATURN
Saturn rules responsibilities, restrictions and limitations you are apt to encounter, and the lessons you must learn in life. It does not deny or diminish imagination, inspiration, spirituality, and good fortune but it does demand that these things be given structure and meaning.
SATURN in ARIES ♄ in ♈
Individuals with natal Saturn in Aries are invariably faced with the consequences of their actions. They do not usually have the luxury of leaving their actions and reactions up to pure instinct. They are frustrated when they do not succeed because they acted spontaneously. Frustration increases on other occasions when they deliberately move at a slower pace and still fail, realizing too late that they should have acted sooner. Success becomes a matter of learning to control their physical, mental, and emotional reactions, an ability that can only be developed through maturity and experience.
URANUS
Uranus rules personal as well as societal freedom. It indicates originality of thought and expression. In society it rules radical ideas and people as well as revolutionary events that upset established structures. Uranus takes approximately seven years to transit one sign, taking about 84 years to complete all twelve signs. Since groups of people with Uranus in the same sign are separated by 84 years, the influence of this planet in a sign is generational. The personal implications of Uranus in your life are described by its house position and the aspects it makes with other planets in your natal chart. It describes areas of unpredictability, and where you or your life style may be different than those around you. It relates to the unusual or unique. Friends and associations to which you belong are also indicated, as is your potential involvement with science and technology, computers, and the media.
URANUS in VIRGO ♅ in ♍
Virgo does not necessarily want to change things. Virgo inspires improvement and the ability to make proper use of what is already at hand. It will be up to the generation of individuals with natal Uranus in Virgo to explore new methods, concepts, and technology that enable society to deal more efficiently with existing resources, products, and institutions.
NEPTUNE
Neptune rules those who are oppressed or abandoned; the misfits of society. On a higher level it rules visionaries, and those who are glamorous and charismatic. It represents spirituality, mysticism, and ideals. Neptune is in one sign for approximately thirteen years, taking about 164 years to complete its cycle through all twelve signs. Since 164 years separate people born during its transit of one sign and those born when it returns, Neptune’s significance in any sign is described as generational or historical. On a personal level, Neptune’s house position and the aspects it makes with other planets in your natal chart will describe spirituality, abstract thinking, illusion, disillusionment, and other areas of your life where things aren’t always what they seem. It rules derangement, guilt, persecution, and describes the potential for experiences related to confinement, abandonment, and addiction or physical intolerance to drugs.
NEPTUNE in TAURUS ♆ in ♉
Taurus is associated with art, and solid accomplishment in the physical and material world. The last transit of Neptune in Taurus was 1874-1889. It inspired the first exhibition of the French Impressionists whose methods depicted the natural appearance of objects. Neptune’s spirituality gained solid roots in the founding of Brigham Young University in Utah and Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati.
PLUTO
Pluto takes approximately 248 years to make one cycle through all twelve signs. The period Pluto spends in each sign can vary from twelve years to thirty two years due to the eccentricity of its orbit. Like atomic energy (a force ruled by Pluto), the presence and direction of Pluto’s energy are never obvious until it is used. Pluto’s influence in any sign is interpreted as generational or historical. In your personal life, Pluto’s significance is interpreted from its house position and the aspects it makes to other natal planets in your horoscope. Pluto rules intense energy, and describes the areas in which you consciously or subconsciously seek to exercise power or control. Pluto is also linked to your karmic responsibility, and in this respect, it describes the areas where you must gain the deepest level of understanding.
PLUTO in TAURUS in ♉
Pluto’s last period in Taurus was 1851-1882. Taurus is pragmatic and materialistic. During the period of Pluto in Taurus the application of physical scientific principles fostered the invention of machines that made industrialization possible. The meteoric rise of capitalism during this time was fueled by the unprecedented growth of industry and finance.
PART TWO: THE OUTER YOU
In Part Two you will read about the twelve houses of the horoscope. The houses represent areas of life in which you operate on a daily basis. You will read descriptions of how you handle the circumstances you encounter in each of these areas, according to your nature, personality and other traits as they are outlined in Part One.
HOUSE 1
The first house and the sign that rules the first house, which is also known as the Ascendant or Rising sign, describes your outer personality and physical attributes. To some extent it also describes your health and the type of illnesses you may experience.
CANCER ASCENDANT ♋ on 1st
A Cancer Ascendant indicates those who are dedicated to satisfying their personal ambitions. However, they can appear so vulnerable that it is difficult for others to determine just how determined or strong they really are. They can be quite circumspect and hesitant to reveal their true goals until they are certain of success. There is potential they will have traumatic partnerships, especially marriage. Many of them prefer to marry late in life, and tend to select older or more mature partners or those who represent an authority figure.
They are emotionally oriented and may attempt to hide this vulnerability behind a facade of forcefulness even though, more often than not, the ploy is unsuccessful. Emotional vulnerability does not deny personal magnetism or ambition. In fact their emotional commitment to something often causes them to work twice as hard as anyone else, becoming quite successful in the bargain. Home is not just where their hearts are, it is usually where they want to physically spend most of their time and attention.
Cancer is ruled by the moon, which implies strong nurturing instincts that are evidenced in their caring, sympathetic personalities. In return, they also seek to be “mothered” and may be guided in life by a strong person (usually female) who fills this role. Their personalities are subject to great changes. Consciously or subconsciously they are highly influenced by others. They may, for example, adopt the latest fashions or mode of behavior whether or not it is personally flattering, or they may pursue certain activities they feel give them social status rather than being something they may truly enjoy.
They are apt to possess culinary skills, and design or architectural ability. Whether or not they have talent in these areas, they are apt to have great interest in them. Roundness of face, pale, sensitive skin, and baldness or finely textured hair are physical attributes identified with Cancer Ascendant. Their bodies have a strong tendency to retain water. Their emotional orientation is indicative of an addictive nature, which means it is difficult to escape a battle with excess weight or addictive substances. The breasts, stomach, and digestive system are apt to be their most physically vulnerable areas.
HOUSE 2
The second house describes material assets, how you handle monetary income, and the potential ways it may be earned. It also indicates the values and priorities you establish throughout life.
CANCER on 2nd HOUSE ♋ on 2nd
Cancer ruling the second house indicates individuals who tend to equate money or personal assets with emotional security. They are apt to exhibit this Cancerian influence in one of two classic behavior patterns. Either they find it difficult to hang on to resources because they spend money when emotionally upset, or they are very conservative, even miserly about spending assets because without these assets they feel vulnerable and insecure. The more common tendency for these individuals is to engage in impulse buying or acquire property of one sort or another as a way of seeking emotional consolation. There is also strong potential they will consciously or subconsciously attempt to use money or status to buy the affections of others, or in turn allow their own affections to be bartered in the same way. They can demonstrate great flexibility when it comes to priorities. What they deem important today may not be so important tomorrow. There is possibility of family inheritance or income from a family trust, just as there is also the possibility of having to take financial responsibility for family members.
HOUSE 3
The third house describes your mental state, intellectual orientation, self-expression and communication, early education, mechanical dexterity and skills, immediate environment (neighborhood), and siblings. It indicates physical actions, and transportation, especially within your immediate environment. To a certain extent the third house also describes the job or health of your father.
LEO on 3rd HOUSE ♌ on 3rd
Leo ruling the third house indicates individuals who are likely to assert themselves and their ideas through all kinds of communication networks they set up, and by being (or trying to be) everywhere at once. Their need for self-expression goes beyond mere desire. Thoughts and ideas are the direct expression of their egos. In turn this implies they need to find ways to express themselves as a means of preserving their egos. They want to develop their ideas, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they will seek a formal education. Nor does the desire to assert their ideas signify they will seek public recognition. They may be content, for example, with a simple thing like keeping a diary. If they have talent their egos find adequate expression in artistic endeavors. There is likely to be much interaction with others in their immediate vicinity such as family members or neighbors. Their facility and need for communication may turn them into constant travelers, letter writers, and telephone users. They enjoy dealing with information and ideas.
URANUS in 3rd HOUSE ♅ in 3rd
Uranus in the third house indicates those with a keen intellect, though its manifestations can be highly unpredictable. It is difficult for these individuals to use or communicate what they learn unless they practice retention, develop organization, and eliminate distractions. Taking tests can also be difficult. They want to convey what they know rather than what others require them to know. Likely to be very adept and self-taught individuals, they enjoy interesting trivia and knowledge of odd and unusual subjects. Their intellectual and physical reactions to stimuli are immediate. However, consistency and a steady rhythm are difficult to maintain. Unpredictable, jerky movements can make them very clumsy, and in some cases, accident prone. In the structured routine of classroom instruction they grow restless. They find it hard to sit still for long periods even when being entertained. If subjected to long-winded sermons or boring lectures, they are sure to head for the nearest exit. For all their jumpiness and unpredictability, they have remarkable mental poise. Rarely frightened or upset by unusual situations or people, these individuals often have a very calming influence on others who are mentally distressed or hysterical. Eagerly receptive to new ideas and methods, they also come up with ingenious ideas and clever solutions of their own. Separation from siblings is a strong likelihood. Plans often develop complications or go awry for one reason or another, usually due to circumstances for which these individuals are not responsible. As if to make up for being unable to plan ahead, they can do things spontaneously or at the last minute with relative ease.
HOUSE 4
The fourth house describes your residence, domestic environment, and family members, especially your mother. It indicates the beginning as well as the end of various cycles in your life.
VIRGO on 4th HOUSE ♍ on 4th
Virgo ruling the fourth house indicates those who are likely to prefer working at home or spend a great deal of time with hobbies or projects at home. They often possess extensive collections of magazines and other factual material. If they happen to be more mechanically inclined than intellectually oriented, their homes become bases for tinkering with mechanical devices, the most popular of which are automobiles. Because of the sensitive, critical nature of Virgo, its influence implies they have a critical eye toward certain aspects of their households. They may, for example, have a compulsion to maintain neat well-organized homes. They allow their homes to be used for community meetings or other neighborhood projects. The negative potential of Virgo’s influence can mean arguments or separation from siblings, as well as estrangements and disagreements with neighbors. Virgo’s influence suggests that the domestic nature of these individuals can be very restless, indicating frequent changes of residence, frequent alterations to their homes, or maintaining more than one residence.
HOUSE 5
The fifth house describes your creative talent and imaginative powers, capacity for enjoyment and the pursuit of pleasure, romance, children, and speculative ventures.
LIBRA on 5th HOUSE ♎ on 5th
Libra ruling the fifth house indicates the possibility of individuals who can raise the pursuit of pleasure to a fine art. They are likely to have the capacity to genuinely enjoy the physical pleasures that life has to offer, and are often just plain lucky as well. They love to be dressed in the very best and most beautiful clothes, and to attend the very finest and most elegant places to dine and be entertained. They usually have such wonderful manners and personal charm others don’t notice or become offended if they happen to overindulge themselves. They are among the world’s best and most romantic lovers, and their conquests often don’t seem to mind being only one in a long line of romantic partners. The negative potential can mean inability to enjoy things, problems with children or romance, and bad luck in speculative ventures. A fifth house Libra influence indicates those who are very artistic and may be talented stage or costume designers, musicians, writers or illustrators. They are apt to have wonderful social rapport with children, understanding instinctively what will amuse and entertain them.
HOUSE 6
The sixth house describes your job, daily responsibilities (paid and unpaid), and those who work for or with you. It also represents your health, and physical fitness.
SAGITTARIUS on 6th HOUSE ♐ on 6th
Sagittarius ruling the sixth house indicates individuals with a strong streak of independence that urges many of them to operate their own businesses rather than work for others. However even those don’t mind being employed by others, are still likely to have a very independent attitude toward work habits. They are happiest when allowed to work unsupervised, set their own pace, decide their own deadlines, and fix their own schedules. The negative potential can mean those with health problems caused by overindulgence. Their job performance may suffer from chronic disorganization or procrastination, or a too-confining work environment. They prefer jobs that involve selling, sports, traveling or publishing. They also enjoy consulting, law, education, religion, and art. They are apt to be animal lovers, though as animal trainers they may lack the urge to maintain the constant discipline needed for control. The same thing may be said about their personal lives and relationships with those who work for or with them.
MOON in 6th HOUSE ☽ in 6th
Moon in the sixth house indicates vulnerability to a continuing variety of medical complaints, especially stomach or digestive disorders. The ailments of these individuals are usually not major threats but can disrupt their work and routine schedules. They are apt to operate a business from their home, or seek jobs related to homes, food, family life, women, or children. They develop mothering instincts and other strong emotional identification toward those who work for or with them. They may work better with women than with men. Work habits may be inconsistent as is their ability to stay in jobs. Their general health and psychological outlook are strongly affected by their work, and when the work environment or responsibilities are upsetting for some reason, inefficiency and absences are the result.
MOON trine VENUS ☽ △ ♀
Getting others to cooperate with them is almost always an easy matter for those with Moon trine Venus, often requiring little or no real effort on their part. This aspect implies easy charm, gracious manners, and the potential for artistic talent. They have keen intellects and highly developed social and diplomatic skills, though how they apply these skills or how well they use them depends on other factors in their personalities.
HOUSE 7
The seventh house relates to marriage and partnership or joint ventures of any kind. It describes how you interact with people and how others tend to regard you. The seventh house is associated with legal matters, negotiations, contracts, and all open confrontations, pleasant as well as adversarial.
CAPRICORN on 7th HOUSE ♑ on 7th
Capricorn ruling the seventh house has many implications concerning the marital situation of these individuals. One of the first considerations is that they are not apt to meet with good fortune if they marry too young or without a great deal of consideration. There is also the possibility they will marry someone older or more mature. If there are negative factors in their personalities or backgrounds it can mean marriage and its attendant responsibilities may seem so severe as to prohibit their ever attempting to marry. Yet another potentiality is that either they or their marriage partners will view marriage as a means of obtaining security. There is no direct implication of whether they are the ones to embark on such a venture, or the ones destined to be married for their money or status. Capricorn’s influence on the seventh house does not mean marriage will be unhappy and indeed, it may be stable, enduring, and become happier as the years go by. However, others may tend to regard their marriages as restrictive, too formal or somber. It may be difficult for them to enter into light-hearted relationships, and whether they mean to or not, may acquire responsibilities for people in whom they have no special interest.
MARS in 7th HOUSE ♂ in 7th
Mars in the seventh house indicates those who put much vitality and energy into relationships, marriage, business partnerships or joint ventures, and dealing with other people in general. They enthuse and encourage others to be sure, but they also rely on others to engender and constantly rekindle energy and vitality within themselves. Being cut off from the stimulation of interactions, or working alone can be detrimental to developing motivations they need to get things done. Marriage or business partnerships may not always be easy to establish. Their energy and activities may be sapped or overshadowed by an overly aggressive partner. They are apt to encounter or initiate many open confrontations. Negative factors in their personality or background can mean argumentative and even violent encounters, and loss of a partner through accident. These individuals may seek a career in law or contract negotiation, or marry someone who works in these areas.
MARS trine PLUTO ♂ △
Mars trine Pluto indicates those with a strong sense of what they like and dislike and just as strong an inclination to get what they want. There are notable passions as well as clear ability to separate what is relevant and important from that which is irrelevant and should be abandoned. They are fortunate to have valuable resources, material and non-material, and to know how to make use of them.
HOUSE 8
The eighth house is related to taxes, debt, death, legacies, and the income you receive through marriage or business partner(s). It describes your resourcefulness, and your ability to develop and use material assets as well as personal skills and abilities. The eighth house also indicates sexual attitudes and behavior.
CAPRICORN on 8th HOUSE ♑ on 8th
Capricorn ruling the eighth house indicates those whose marriage or business partners may have very few material resources to contribute. It is also possible that their partners are unwilling to either enjoy or share personal assets with them. This may also be the situation with regard to anything these individuals inherit, that is, it may be so small as to be negligible, or if it is a considerable estate, it may turn out to bring more sorrow than joy to their lives. Capricorn’s influence can also be positive since it can engender responsible handling of finances, which in turn, helps preserve and improve the status of resources. If there are negative factors in their personalities or backgrounds it can mean the possibility of inherited illnesses or physical defects. These individuals may harbor aversions to insurance matters and neglect them altogether, or worry excessively about being adequately protected. They may fear death, and perhaps even more, the tax collector. If not sufficiently in awe of the IRS, they should be, since discrepancies in which they indulge in this area are sure to be discovered.
HOUSE 9
The ninth house describes higher education, advanced training, publishing, publicity, advertising, politics, foreign travel, foreign studies, religious and philosophical views and activities, and cultural pursuits. It relates to court decisions, a second marriage, and in-laws. To a certain extent the ninth house also describes the job or health of your mother.
AQUARIUS on 9th HOUSE ♒ on 9th
Aquarius ruling the ninth house suggests that in the matter of higher education or advanced training, these individuals may be better suited to being self-taught. It isn’t necessarily that they aren’t willing or able to pursue higher education, but there is potential they may be too restless and independent to endure lectures and formal instructions. Left to their own methods and motivations however, they may become expert on subjects that interest them and develop impressive mechanical or artistic skills with little or no formal instruction. There is also implication with unpredictable Aquarius that they may experience sudden or unexpected disruptions in their education or training, and perhaps even be required to begin again at a later time. Religious or philosophical views are apt to be unpredictable and unorthodox. Even if they do not adopt totally radical views, their ideas are vulnerable to sudden change and they may rebel against traditional ideas and practices. They may also lean so far toward the traditional as to become ultraconservative and fanatical. This same point can be made about their ideas relating to art, music, or literature.
JUPITER in 9th HOUSE ♃ in 9th
Jupiter in the ninth house indicates those with intellectual curiosity, independent attitudes, idealism, and quickness of mind. They have great respect for knowledge, but there is no guarantee these individuals will be motivated to pursue higher education. It does suggest however, that they have a nose for news as well as gossip. Avid readers of newspapers and magazines, they are usually very well informed concerning political and social issues. There is potential talent for languages, diplomacy, or arbitration. They enjoy traveling, cultural pursuits, gambling, sports and other activities that offer intellectual and physical challenge. They have a strong religious or spiritual nature, a wonderful sense of humor, and a gift for story telling. Negative factors in their personality or background can mean mental laziness, disorganization, dishonesty, and a strong flair for exaggeration and overestimation.
JUPITER opposite URANUS ♃ ☍ ♅
This generational aspect implies unstable conditions and a general confusion that may lead to complete chaos, all quite often the result of a complete reversal of existing conditions. It is an aspect of rebellion against the status quo, and individuals born with this aspect may tend to be temperamentally suited to such a condition unless other factors in their personalities and backgrounds soften its influence.
JUPITER square PLUTO ♃ □
Jupiter square Pluto implies a generation that succeeds through sheer force of will power. Societal situations which confront these individuals involve issues of power and control and, as a result, they are forced to analyze and understand human psychological motivations and behavioral patterns. How much of this spills into their private affairs is a matter of other factors in their personalities and backgrounds.
HOUSE 10
The tenth house describes your career and other long-range goals, public reputation, superiors and those in authority. It also relates to your father and his influence in your life.
PISCES on 10th HOUSE ♓ on 10th
Pisces ruling the tenth house indicates individuals who may face the necessity for guarding their reputations since there is danger of scandal or being connected with someone else’s disgrace. There is also a possibility they will have glamorous or mysterious public images. Their marriage or business partners may be found among those who live or were raised near water. The influence of Pisces implies several situations related to a parent, in most cases, the father. They may, for example, be abandoned, either literally or figuratively, by the father. There may also be a secret or sorrow or depression connected with the father, or he may be disabled, suffer from mental or emotional problems, or be addicted to alcohol or drugs. Negative potential includes the possibility of failure to get recognition they deserve or to achieve their goals. The career or long range goals they seek may involve aiding those who are disabled, institutionalized, underprivileged, or minorities. Religion, theater, dance, art, medicine, or maritime industries are other possible areas that hold the key to their destinies.
SUN in 10th HOUSE ☉ in 10th
Sun in the tenth house indicates those who possess a strong ego that must find public expression. Very few of these individuals are likely to be satisfied with staying home. Those who choose such a life-style or are forced into it, are apt to be miserable. Even if their main focus is home and family, sooner or later, they feel the need to accomplish their personal goals through a career or other activities. The father is emphasized, and these individuals feel his influence more than most. Their accomplishments may be the direct result of his help, or have been motivated by the lack of it. They may bear a strong physical resemblance to the father. These individuals seek to attain public positions. They are apt to work for themselves or occupy an elevated position in the companies that employ them.
SUN conjunct MERCURY ☉ ☌ ☿
These individuals are apt to be very subjective in their opinions and ideas. Unless they make concerted efforts, their receptiveness to learning is going to stay primarily limited to their self-interests, which in turn limits their growth and progress as individuals. It is hard to separate their own ideas from others since consciously or subconsciously their egos have a tendency to appropriate everything. If natal Mercury is in a different sign than natal Sun, there is less chance of ego involvement and more mental receptiveness.
SUN sextile MARS ☉ ⚹ ♂
Sun sextile Mars indicates those likely to be quick to take advantage of opportunities that come their way, and not so narrow as to limit themselves to taking only those that seem to promise some obvious advantage. Their energetic response is to eagerly grab all opportunities that arouse them emotionally, mentally, or physically.
SUN sextile PLUTO ☉ ⚹
Sun sextile Pluto is usually an indication of individuals who are given opportunities to interact with those more powerful than themselves. These opportunities also represent the chance for these individuals to learn the value of control and power and what happens when such privileges are abused. Not everyone they meet will give tangible assistance in the way of money or obvious favors, but they often turn out to be important resources in helping these individuals get ahead in other ways.
MERCURY in 10th HOUSE ☿ in 10th
Mercury in the tenth house indicates individuals who want their thoughts and ideas conveyed to an audience. Even if they do not seek public attention for themselves, they want a public forum for their ideas, or in which to put these ideas into practice. They may write speeches for others, or become city planners and engineers. Others enjoy mental pursuits in public places such as chess matches in the park or writing letters to the editors of newspapers. There is also the potential for more than one career, or a dual-natured quality connected with their work. The negative potential of this Mercury house position includes difficulty in communicating with the father or other authority figures, and problems establishing their own authority. Mercury’s influence in the tenth house is an indication of writers, teachers, public speakers, or politicians. Their career or profession may demand a great deal of traveling, or involve transportation or networking.
MERCURY conjunct SATURN ☿ ☌ ♄
Mercury conjunct Saturn indicates those who may be too formal and structured in their thinking to give credence to possibilities that don’t fit their preconceived ideas or plans. They are ambitious and want their ideas to be looked upon as authoritative. Most of them have very little disposition for engaging in tact or idle flattery, or perhaps in some individuals, it is lack of understanding of how to go about more personal and seductive ways of communication.
VENUS in 10th HOUSE ♀ in 10th
Venus in the tenth house indicates those who tend to get noticed because of their talent, looks, charming personality, or all three of these assets. Unless factors in their background have resulted in the development of shyness or other inhibitions, they derive a great deal of pleasure from performing in public. They are excellent ad libers, impromptu speechifiers and toastmasters. Negative potential includes those who become an over dramatic, non-appeasable seeker of the spotlight who selfishly uses relationships to further their own career or goals. It can also mean difficult relationships with family and authority figures. The positive influence of Venus suggests great popularity and friends in prominent positions. The father may be especially handsome or possess artistic talent.
SATURN in 10th HOUSE ♄ in 10th
Tenth house Saturn indicates those who have special concerns related to their father, as well as supervisors and other authority figures in general. These individuals may be separated at a young age from their father, or he may be austere, strict, or overburdened with responsibilities. They may have to assume responsibility for him. The strongest motivations these individuals have in life is related to the positive or negative paternal relationship they experienced. Saturn’s influence suggests those with strong career goals. They seek positions of authority and are dedicated to pushing themselves relentlessly forward. As a result, they usually accomplish much of what they set out to do, though it may take them a bit longer to succeed. It is well for these individuals to remember that whatever success or good fortune they gain will be accompanied by heavy responsibilities. Those willing to accept their rewards on this basis will do well in life. Those who waste what they attain or abuse any authority or power with which they are entrusted, are invariably disgraced and forced to start over.
HOUSE 11
The eleventh house rules friendships, organizations to which you belong, and income derived from self-employment or career (as opposed to wages earned from a job). It relates to the role you play in the lives of others as child, parent, lover, spouse, friend, social or business associate. The eleventh house also describes your hopes and aspirations and capacity for happiness.
ARIES on 11th HOUSE ♈ on 11th
Aries ruling the eleventh house indicates the likelihood of individuals who put their energy and vitality into establishing a wide range of social contacts and participating in the activities of clubs and organizations. The enthusiasm and energy of Aries influences and enhances their social lives and their friendships. Their friends are likely to fit an Aries description which means they will include soldiers, hunters, pioneers, sports enthusiasts, inventors, and risk-takers of every description, as well as those with energetic go-getting attitudes. The negative potential connected with Aries on the eleventh house can mean individuals who develop antisocial attitudes, rudeness or irascibility. They may provoke or participate in arguments and open confrontations. It can also mean individuals who are never happy with what they have. They may work very hard to achieve something, only to decide they want something more or something else entirely. They may have many acquaintances but few friends, there being more energy and quickly-burned passion in their contacts than long term emotional commitment.
NEPTUNE in 11th HOUSE ♆ in 11th
Neptune in the eleventh house indicates the potential for undermining influences and elements of illusion, confusion, or mystery to surround the role these individuals play in the lives of others as a child, parent, lover, spouse, or friend. These individuals may not understand the true nature of the people (or relationships they share) with whom they live and socialize. They may adopt a child, or marry someone with children. Other potentials include those who have trouble getting a true picture of their own happiness. When they attain what they thought would make them happy, they often discover it doesn’t. Some of them are never content with their achievements, or with the money, possessions, and relationships they have. Some of them, however, manage to be so content with whatever comes their way, they never succeed in realizing their full potential. Their friends are apt to be artists, poets, and dreamers. They may also share affection and friendship with dancers, clerics, mathematicians, and sailors. Discretion must always be used when choosing close companions, since these individuals have no trouble attracting people who can do them absolutely no good. Friends may be addicted to drugs or alcohol or involved in illegal activities. Neptune’s negative influence can also mean the untimely loss of a friend, and the infidelity of a marriage partner. Though friendships can be afflicted by deception, this is not always the case. The positive side of Neptune implies highly inspirational and sensitive, perhaps even clairvoyant, relationships can be established with friends.
PLUTO in 11th HOUSE in 11th
Pluto in the eleventh house indicates those whose central theme in life is analyzing what makes them happy. To accommodate what may be an intense desire to find true happiness, they make a completely new beginning with new friends and if possible, in a new environment. The fresh start they attempt may be successful, but if it merely represents a desire to run away from unresolved problems or unsatisfactory relationships, they are certain to fail. By choice or circumstance there may be secrecy and hidden control or manipulation related to the role they play in the lives of others, as child, parent, sibling, lover, spouse, or friend. Understanding the necessity of directing energy away from the self and toward a relationship or group effort, being able to work as part of a group instead of dominating it, and focusing on common goals rather than emphasizing differences are what give ultimate influence and power to those with an eleventh house Pluto.
HOUSE 12
The twelfth house describes the private and hidden side of life; your subconscious mind, dreams, the past, and those who wish you harm or work against your interests. The twelfth house relates to sorrow, disappointment, loss, solitude or confinement, hidden fears and worry. It also has connection with the job or health of your marriage or business partner.
GEMINI on 12th HOUSE ♊ on 12th
Gemini ruling the twelfth house indicates individuals who may keep many of their ideas and thoughts to themselves. As a rule they are able to think and communicate more effectively in quiet environments. They are attracted to investigations that go beyond the physical planes, such as the subconscious, dreams, and extra sensory perception. Their thoughts and ideas are not always based on logical reasoning but are often a result of instinct or intuition. Sometimes this type of thinking works, and sometimes they need to get a clearer sense of reality. They can become prisoners of their own minds. The influence of Gemini suggests the possibility of being involved in communication or computers connected with hospitals, prisons, charitable institutions, or mental institutions. Their marriage partners may be clerics, artists, or they may work in law, contract negotiations, teaching, writing, or publishing.

Solar Return Astrology Report
Solar Return Astrology Report for Madonna
INTRODUCTION to SOLAR RETURNS
A solar return chart is a chart erected for the time that the transiting Sun returns to the position of the natal Sun. Approximately once every year the transiting Sun goes through the entire zodiac, every degree, minute, and second of each sign. When you are born, the Sun in your natal chart has a specific position in the zodiac. This position can be measured exactly. At some point in time during each subsequent year, the transiting Sun returns to this natal position, conjuncting your natal Sun. The date and time when the conjunction occurs down to the exact second of arc is the time of the solar return chart. A chart is then calculated for that date, using the time (of the transiting Sun’s return to your natal Sun’s position), and your location (longitude and latitude) at the time of the conjunction.
TROPICAL, PLACIDUS, NONPRECESSED SOLAR RETURN
There are many different types of solar return charts: tropical, sidereal, precessed, and nonprecessed. This report is based on research using tropical, Placidus or Koch, nonprecessed solar return charts. Interpretations are very similar to natal interpretations and this should make the material more understandable to both the professional and amateur astrologer.
SOLAR RETURN LOCATION
The solar return chart is generally calculated for your location at the time of the Sun’s return. This may occur on your birthday, or the day before or after. During leap years, it sometimes occurs two days before your birthday. If you are going to be away or traveling near your birthday, calculate the time of the Sun’s return before you leave so you can note your position the exact moment of the solar return.
You can also calculate the chart for your natal birth location even if you no longer live there. The natal location solar return chart is not as definitive as the relocation solar return, but it can give you good information. The natal location solar return is like a progressed or solar arc chart; you are born with it. Therefore, a natal solar return cannot and will not reflect any free will choices you might have made regarding where you live or where you are when the sun returns. It is a good chart, but it does not mirror the whole picture, especially if you have moved a great distance.
Some individuals prefer the chart calculated for their place of residence regardless of where they are located at the time of the Sun’s return. This chart can be useful also, but again, it tends to be secondary to the chart of your actual location at the time of the Sun’s return to its natal zodiacal position.
Some individuals relocate for a short period of time, usually about 24 hours, to adjust the house placements of the planets in the solar return. Those who calculate the chart for where they are at the time of the transiting Sun’s conjunction to the natal position sometimes travel to other locations to change the yearly interpretation. The relocation adjusts the angles and cusps, orienting the planets into different houses. The zodiacal degrees and aspects of the planets remain the same, but because of the different planetary placements different areas of life are emphasized. The free will choice to make this adjustment seems to bring this chart closest to the truth.
PERIOD OF THE SOLAR RETURN’S SIGNIFICANCE
The significance of the solar return runs birthday to birthday with a three month overlap at the beginning and end of each year. The symbolism of the new solar return can be felt as much as three months before the birthday by very intuitive people. Usually, at this time, one becomes aware of new directions, opportunities, and problems. Many times there is even an event exactly three months before the birthday which triggers awareness and signals the beginning of the new solar return. This event is usually very much related to the new solar return and very much out of context with the old one. If you have plans to travel overseas during the three months before your birthday, do not look for the event in the old solar return even if you have been planning to take the trip all year. The old solar return will probably indicate the planning stage, but the new solar return will indicate the trip. The trip itself illustrates change, and since it occurs in the three months before your birthday, it will most likely be indicative of the new solar return chart.
On the other hand, the significance of the old solar return may not feel fully played out, but old themes and issues you have worked with for the year will begin to lose their importance as the new solar return manifests itself. As your attention naturally shifts to new themes and issues, previous concerns are phased out. This is especially true if you experience a sense of completion relevant to the old tasks. However, there are times when the old solar return drags on. If you are working on a major project for the year, it may be impossible to complete it within the one year time span. If you normally procrastinate and avoid making decisions, tasks associated with the old solar return can easily last past your birthday and into the first three months of the new solar return year. Unresolved issues carried over from year to year become stumbling blocks to further advancement and development. Individuals who consistently avoid facing the real issues in their lives accumulate major problems which are very difficult to handle.
The important thing to remember about solar returns, and life experiences in general, is that they are part of a cumulative process. The more attentive and productive you are this year, the greater your options next year. The less you accomplish now, the more limited you will feel as time goes by. Unlike transits which can seem disconnected and singular, solar returns are closely aligned and can easily be viewed as building blocks, one upon the other, year after year. For this reason, each year becomes important and each task has a history and a future. The rhythmic pattern of the solar return helps us to see this.
The main transitional month for the change from the old solar return to the new solar return is the month directly preceding the birthday. Issues related to the old solar return are resolved at this time unless they drag on (as explained above), or they are part of the new solar return as well. Issues related to the new solar return become more pressing during this transitional month and are certainly full blown by the birthdate. Sometimes the new solar return simply gains strength during the three months before your birthday and sometimes it comes in with a bang on or near your birthday. Rarely does it happen that a solar return chart starts to change manifestation later in the year. Themes in the chart usually persist for the entire year, but once in a great while one new theme will appear later than expected. In every case, the new theme can be seen in the solar return chart, yet it lay there inactive for some unknown reason. An external event is the triggering mechanism used to activate this inert awareness, and the event generally occurs within the three months following the birthday. It can be hypothesized that unconscious factors help to avoid full involvement with this new issue until such time as it is associated with an external event of importance and thereafter becomes very obvious.
Planets conjunct a house cusp within a few degrees may be read in both houses. It is especially important to read outer planets in both houses since they eventually transit or retrograde into the other house, indicating dual or shifting concerns during the year. The more planets that are in a solar return house, the more emphasized that area of life will be during the coming year, especially if the Sun is one of the planets present. Four or more planets in any one house indicate a strong need to be involved with those themes and issues. But the individual may become so focused on this one area of life that perception is distorted and these themes are overemphasized. He or she may not want to think about anything else or accomplish tasks in other areas. The overloaded house becomes a symbol for obsessive preoccupation or emotional overload.
WELL BALANCED MODES and ELEMENTS
When all of your elements and modes are balanced (meaning that there are no more than four planets and no less than two planets in any element or mode) this indicates that your thinking and actions are based on careful consideration of data from several sources of information. You are able to weigh physical, rational, emotional, and spiritual information when you are making decisions. You tend to be conservative rather than rash in making changes, even though you are open to change. At times you may be indecisive since you must take so much information into consideration; however, it is more likely that you will look at issues from all sides and not be overly influenced by any one personality factor.
AQUARIUS RISING
When the solar return Ascendant is in Aquarius, you need to be free to follow your conscience and to speak your mind. You travel to the beat of a different drum. Rules might not apply. Those in power are not held in high regard. You seek out like-minded individuals and others who think like you do even when your ideas are radical. You buck authority and can be a rebel either with or without a just cause. You function better as an advocate. Dependability is not your long suit. You vacillate between choices and might be downright erratic.
INTRODUCTION to the SUN
The Sun is the most significant planet in the solar return chart. Its position by house shows the most emphasized area of life during the coming year, how and where you expend the greatest amount of energy. The house placement of the Sun is reflected in the interpretation of the other planets, and may be the motivating force behind their symbolism.
SUN in the 7TH HOUSE ☉ in 7th
The Sun in the 7th house indicates that relationships are more important to you than your own individual identity. You are more interested in relating to others (and possibly someone in particular) than pursuing personal goals or working alone. It is very likely that your Sun was in the solar return 1st house two years ago and in the 10th house last year. For these two years, you probably stressed independent action and self-sufficiency. This emphasis on self and self-motivated endeavors is over and now you have a strong need for companionship, sharing, and feedback. Focus on relationships, and spend time with those you love who may have been feeling neglected. Their needs seem stronger than yours and it feels right to support those who have supported you over the past two years. It may not be easy for you to shift from a self-centered orientation into a partnership commitment, but you will find that fulfillment comes from sharing and cooperation. Your greatest successes occur when working with others or through the assistance of someone else. Generally, this is not the time to do things on your own.
Relationship problems are possible. Renewing old relationships can be difficult because others may have established a pattern of getting along without you if you were too distant in the past. Hopefully, they appreciate the time you are now able to spend with them. An old and useless relationship might end during this time so that a new and rewarding one can form. Use this time for a transition to a new and exciting commitment. Generally, new relationships are of a personal nature, but occasionally the emphasis is on a business partnership. The 7th house is the house of marriage, partnerships, and strong relationships, and it is likely that you will be deeply involved in one of these types of relationships during the year.
Partnerships can be either supportive or restrictive. There isn’t a guarantee that relationships will be beneficial to you, but you mold them with your responses. This is an excellent time to work with someone on a project. Consult those offering objective feedback or expert information in your field of interest. You can accomplish more through cooperation or competition than you would have accomplished on your own.
Some individuals experience this placement as restrictive, especially if they always emphasize the needs of others without considering their own needs. The Sun in the 7th house can indicate a very consuming relationship, one which totally compromises your individuality and personal needs. In this situation you become too passive, refusing to assert yourself at all, while allowing a relationship to become everything as you become nothing. You accept limitations passively, are easily imposed upon, and tend to follow, never lead. You grow more insignificant the longer you remain in this type of relationship. Most likely, you are trying to hold together an impossible partnership, one that should be ended. If you continue to bite your tongue so things will run smoothly, your own needs will not be met and the strain of meeting the needs of others will drain you.
Unless your partner is physically ill, your dedication to another should not be so demanding as to be all-consuming. Should you choose to remain in a detrimental relationship with demands this great, be aware that the situation is probably psychologically unhealthy for you and may eventually involve verbal or physical abuse. Learn the fine art of negotiation. This is not the time for complete surrender. One hand washes the other and it is through cooperation that you progress and grow. The task is to learn to compromise and share within a meaningful and fulfilling relationship. Give willingly without allowing yourself to be used.
This is the time to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes and become more aware of different points of view. Be objective; most importantly, see yourself as others see you. Those with strong and difficult personalities will find it hard to relate until they correct their offensive behavior and irritating personality traits. If you are determined to get your own way, life will not run smoothly. You must consider the way you affect others. People will no longer make allowances for your behavior and it’s time to clean up your act. If you can’t learn to cooperate and share equally, you will have little chance for success and a greater tendency to create enemies. Correct those habits which block intimacy and sharing with others if you want to increase interpersonal gratification.
SUN CONJUNCT MARS ☉ ☌ ♂
Mars symbolizes the energy necessary for successful accomplishment. When Mars is conjunct the Sun, work on a project that requires a great deal of effort to complete. Success can come in the form of personal or professional achievement, especially if it involves original and creative work. First time projects or ambitious endeavors are also appropriate.
Relationships might be conflicted or competitive. You need to balance self-centered drives with the needs of others. When the Sun and Mars are conjunct, they can indicate considerable self-interest, and perhaps even a selfish attitude. Too much emphasis on self makes for tense relations. Others may view you as competitive when you should be a team player. You can motivate others in a positive and productive way, and that may be the best course of action.
Learn to deal with aggression, conflict, and anger in an effective rather than detrimental way. You may be stressed out and under the gun regarding tasks and responsibilities. Do not take it out on others. Think before you act. Handle negative situations positively with an eye toward fair play and productive changes. Defend you actions and decisions if need be. Defend others when you see injustice. Be an advocate, but remain calm and rational. If you let your temper flare, things can only get worse.
Less spiritual themes associated with Sun conjunct Mars involve self-destructive urges. Prolonged anger creates blockages which waste energy in a cycle of negative emotions that have no real purpose or goal. It is better to direct efforts and also frustration into positive endeavors.
SUN SEXTILE or TRINE JUPITER ☉ ⚹ ♃
The major task associated with the Sun sextile or trine Jupiter in the solar return chart is expansion of the personality into new areas of experience and expertise. This expansion should be consistent with the individual’s philosophical beliefs, spiritual goals, and career aspirations. Beneficial opportunities are associated with Jupiter sextile or trine the Sun; however, there is no guarantee of a positive return. You may have to create your own opportunities, augment the possibilities through enthusiasm, or take a risk to manifest the best results.
The main danger noted with the Sun sextile or trine to Jupiter is a tendency toward excessive behavior and a refusal to curb personal needs and desires in consideration of others. Excessive behavior can be associated with workaholic tendencies, spending practices, diet, health habits, or any other activity. A refusal to curb personal needs can overwhelm partners and family members who have their own preferences. Remember to keep a sense of balance.
SUN SEXTILE or TRINE SATURN ☉ △ ♄
When the Sun is sextile or trine Saturn in the solar return chart, it implies a sense of structure. Whether this structure becomes supportive or restrictive depends on the situation and the individual’s ability to handle Saturnian issues in a positive manner. Saturn rules hard work. The productive characteristics associated with Saturn include persistence, patience, organization, stability, practicality, and realistic expectations. When the individual’s behavior is consistent with these beneficial traits, progress and self-mastery result. When the individual shirks responsibility and does not put forth the effort, little if any progress is made. When the Sun is sextile or trine Saturn, nothing is given and everything is earned. .
Beyond those circumstances which one can control, restrictions, frustrations, and delays can plague the native. You must accept responsibility for your own life situation and work with limitations should they arise. There is a lesson to be learned this year.
The Sun sextile or trine Saturn is not meant to reflect a depressing time, but it does reflect stark realism. Accurate perceptions of existing situations are essential to either accept or alter future expectations. You must be both realistic and patient in assessing your options. Progress can occur, but it tends to occur slowly and involve careful planning, hard work, and discipline, so put in the effort. It is common to be involved with a major project or task during the year that requires your full attention. Focus on finding solutions to problems. Use your skills and talents in a productive manner or develop the expertise you need to succeed.
SUN SEXTILE or TRINE URANUS ☉ △ ♅
The Sun sextile or trine Uranus in the solar return chart suggests that the individual is making changes. Changes are usually major and sweeping, though sometimes a series of small changes in rapid succession is needed for a shift to occur. Changes are usually self-initiated and directed, unless a persistent problem or internal restlessness is ignored. When you avoid the obvious need for change, matters can be taken out of your hands, in which case, you become the passive recipient of change.
Generally, change is a part of any solar return year that has the Sun sextile or trine Uranus. Since Uranus transits can last for two or more years, you may be at the beginning of the change this year or near the end. If the degree for Uranus is less than the degree for the Sun, Uranus by transit is applying to the Sun and the change is probably about to begin. If the degree for Uranus is higher than that of the Sun, Uranus by transit is separating from the Sun and the change might be nearing completion. If the Sun and Uranus are in similar degree, you are probably in the midst of change.
Changes usually correspond to welcomed and significant life developments such as a pregnancy and birth, a job transfer, relocation, or the beginning of a new relationship. The native gravitates toward excitement, freedom, and growth. This is a good time to be creative, inventive and original. You can recreate your life.
INTRODUCTION to the MOON
The solar return Moon seems to have two consistent themes throughout all of the houses. First and most simply, the Moon is associated with change and fluctuation according to its house position. Secondly, and probably more importantly, the Moon reflects the individual’s emotional nature during the solar return year.
THE MOON AS AN EMOTIONAL INDICATOR
While we speak of the Moon as simply an indication of one’s emotional nature, the actual interpretation of the Moon is more complex than simple. The Moon is not just an indicator of feelings; one’s emotional nature is a multidimensional conglomeration of feelings, temperament, needs, and unconscious responses. We cannot look at the Moon as one-sided; we must study its interpretation from a number of perspectives.
The Moon represents the individual’s feelings regardless of whether or not they are expressed openly. The type of feelings you have during the year can be demonstrated by the Moon’s sign, position, and aspects. The Moon’s sign can be important even though the Moon has essentially only nineteen placements, because it is indicative of what the individual feels during the year and how he or she is most likely to exhibit those feelings.
The major difference between an individual’s feelings and basic temperament is that feelings tend to make up one’s basic temperament. The word temperament implies one’s overall pattern of emotional response; it is an emotional factor that remains constant regardless of the circumstances. On the other hand, feelings imply a specific emotion in response to a particular event or situation. For example, moody people have emotional swings. Their feelings change depending whether or not they are experiencing happy or sad events; however, their proclivity toward emotional highs and lows remains constant regardless of their particular mood at any point in time. Despite feelings of joy or depression, they still have a moody disposition. The solar return Moon’s sign is generally very descriptive of your emotional temperament. It can suggest an array of emotional characteristics including moodiness, sensitivity, coldness, or enthusiasm.
Emotional needs play a crucial role in the Moon’s cycle of change and emotional maturation. As explained above, the Moon moves in an understandable pattern through the solar return. During each year, the individual knows certain emotional needs must be met in order to feel secure and fulfilled. These needs, which fluctuate from year to year, cause the individual to create the variety of situations necessary for emotional maturity.
CONSCIOUS or UNCONSCIOUS EMPHASIS
The Moon also signifies the unconscious experience. While Mercury’s placement will suggest what the person is consciously thinking, the Moon’s placement will suggest what the individual is experiencing on an unconscious level. Together, the Moon and Mercury (and sometimes also the Sun) symbolize the balance between conscious and the unconscious processes. We like to think that our decisions are based on the integration of rational and emotional information, but during any given solar return year, one process more than the other can influence our decisions, perceptions, and motivations. The focus of attention shifts to accommodate fluctuations in individual patterns of growth. There will be years when you lean more heavily on your emotional responses, tending to trust your instincts and follow your intuition. But there will be other years when you depend more on a logical assessment of your situation.
The emphasis on the unconscious usually indicates a year in which the native will be interested in fostering emotional connections and unconscious insights. Logic and factual information may not be meaningful within the context of present situations, which will tend to be emotional. Example situations include (but are not limited to): involvement in counseling, therapy or self-help discussion groups; intense family situations (related to birth, child-rearing, sickness or death); and very nurturing social situations (e.g., communal living, helping the disabled, underprivileged or homeless). Emotional interactions and perceptions will naturally be more important if they are more likely to provide vital information needed to handle experiences during the coming year. An emphasis on the unconscious nature is conducive to emotional growth.
All forms of mental activity are associated with an emphasis on the conscious mind, including educational and informational activities. Teaching, learning, lecturing, and writing are several examples. An emphasis on the conscious mind is conducive to intellectual growth.
MOON in the 4TH HOUSE ☽ in 4th
A 4th house solar return Moon suggests an emphasis on two important areas: the physical home or domestic situation, and the emotional needs and perceptions of the individual. Usually these two major areas of concern parallel each other and changes manifesting in the home or home life are reflected in emotional changes the individual is experiencing internally. For example, if you do extensive remodeling of your home, it is likely you will also experience emotional disruption during the period of renovation. It can be argued that the emotional disruption is directly caused by the upheaval in the physical environment of the home; but, it is also possible that your emotional situation is changing rapidly and internal dissatisfaction actually caused the desire for renovation.
Perhaps a different example will illustrate this better. Whenever one moves into a new home, some amount of redecoration takes place. The priorities set at this time can be indicative of the individual’s emotional climate. Those who are withdrawn or recovering from a difficult emotional trauma might decorate the master bedroom first. The master bedroom suite is probably the most private part of the home and is not always seen by a visitor. Yet it is viewed as the most restful room in the home, a protective inner sanctum that revitalizes energies. Establishing a priority of redoing this room first may reflect a desire to soothe injured feelings before all else. In this manner, internal emotional needs lead to external choices made in regard to the home.
You are apt to either change your place of residence or change something about your home when the Moon is in the 4th house of the solar return chart. You can purchase a new home and move, but it is just as likely that changes will occur within your existing home or domestic situation. For example, you could have a household member come or go during the year, perhaps a new roommate moving in, or a grown child moving out to a separate residence. Feeling “at home” becomes very important and you need to make changes in your home or lifestyle to attain this sense of comfort. Your aim will be to create a place of retreat reflecting your individual emotional style and needs. There are a number of different ways to do this and changes can be either physical or emotional, radical or minor.
Occasionally, domestic needs affect career goals. Interest in providing a comfortable home environment may become a career concentration. It is possible to begin a career in real estate, home design or interior decoration during the year. Security issues related to your home or future retirement may lead you to plan a career move or to change your job.
Emotional feelings are the second major area of concern with the Moon in the 4th. Your emotional needs are stronger and more urgent at this time, probably because you are coping with an element of change or disruption. You are very aware of the understanding and emotional support you receive from others, or the lack thereof. You want to feel a strong emotional connection to those around you, and need greater intimacy. If others cannot or will not match your needs, you withdraw emotionally and physically from disappointing situations. You tend to be more protective of others and can draw dependent relationships during the year if you feel the need to mother or be mothered. If grown children are leaving home, it is possible to experience the empty nest syndrome. New mothers may experience postpartum blues. These feelings are all related to a maturing emotional nature and changing circumstances. Focusing on your own emotional needs at this time will help you to make the necessary adjustments.
Changes in your emotional circumstances can be more relative than actual. Your situation stays the same, but suddenly you have realizations which open your eyes to new possibilities and problems. Intuitively, you now sense much more than you are told. This ability can give you a wealth of new knowledge and insight, though you might be reluctant to trust it at first. What you sense intuitively may or may not be different from what you are told verbally. If there is a discrepancy, you’ll feel torn in two directions and not know what to believe.
Extreme sensitivity to issues related to the home is common, and what actually transpires in the domestic environment, physically and/or emotionally, tends to affect you deeply. If you are in a very difficult situation and your home life is disrupted, it is possible to feel homeless with this placement, but for those who work with their feelings, there awaits a new sense of roots.
INTRODUCTION to MERCURY
Mercury has two basic interpretations in the solar return chart: it symbolizes what you are thinking about and your mental condition during the coming year.
What you are actually thinking about is shown by the solar return house placement of Mercury. The important thing to remember about Mercury’s placement is that it is indicative of a mental exercise only. Alone in a house, Mercury can show mental preoccupation without psychological pain or physical consequences. It suggests the ability to make decisions only, and may not be a clear indication of action in any particular area. Mercury’s aspects to the other planets indicate how information is gathered, assimilated and integrated into attitudes that persist for most of the year. How easily this is accomplished, and in what manner, is suggested by the aspects themselves.
Conditioning is noted by solar return aspects to Mercury. Squares and oppositions to Mercury indicate possible sources of tension and conflict. If Mercury is in an air sign, (Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius), rational thought processes are emphasized. If Mercury is in a water sign, (Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces), strong emotional factors influence thinking. If Mercury is in an earth sign, (Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn), the tendency is to be practical. If Mercury is in a fire sign, (Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius), the individual is motivated by self-interest, passion, philosophy, or spirituality. When assessing the conditioning of Mercury, it is also important to note the sign and conditioning for the Moon and whether the Moon is in an air or water sign. This will help you determine if the thinking process or emotions are dominant during the year and if integration is possible.
MERCURY in the 7TH HOUSE ☿ in 7th
A 7th house Mercury in the solar return chart can signal the importance of communication with others during the coming year. You may spend a lot of time discussing, explaining, negotiating, and even arguing with others, especially if you have a major project or issue that needs to be handled. Matters under discussion will not be finalized easily. Projects may require much communication among all those involved before completion; disputes may require lengthy negotiations before agreement can be reached.
On a personal level, communication within couples will be important. This is a good time to share thoughts and get in touch with one another. You may want to attend a marriage encounter. If you are having marital difficulties, see a marriage counselor and open up the lines of communication. Clarification and negotiation may be needed to improve or restore your relationship, especially if you are aware of contradictions and discrepancies. Professionally, you may negotiate and communicate directly with others or hire the services of a professional to act as a go-between. Mercury in the 7th house can be indicative of another person with a great deal of knowledge or expertise. This is a good time to seek the advice and professional assistance of someone who is viewed as an authority in your particular field of interest or problem area. It may be in your best interest to let this expert handle certain business matters for you, but it is still important that you oversee proceedings and discuss decisions being made.
Both personal and professional relationships may be valued for the information and intellectual stimulation they provide. You will be attracted to people who are bright and full of ideas. The mental interchange fostered can lead to great creativity and insight through combined efforts. These results may far exceed the intellectual abilities of the individuals working alone. This is a good time to share ideas with others or to join a discussion group for the purpose of intellectual growth.
The danger associated with Mercury in the 7th house is a tendency to let others dominate your thoughts with their own opinions and comments. Do not personally accept truisms without assessing their validity or practicality. Since you are very open to advice from others, you may lack conviction in your own mental competence. You may grow dependent on the decision-making abilities of others. Mercury in the 7th house can indicate that you are lied to during the year. There is no guarantee that the information you receive is accurate or helpful. Therefore, it is essential that you evaluate information and advice as you receive it. This is an excellent time to gather information from others, but it is still your responsibility to evaluate the information received and make your own decisions.
MERCURY RETROGRADE
Mercury is usually retrograde in the solar return chart every six years. When Mercury is retrograde, it is time to be introspective, especially about those things related to Mercury’s house placement. You should be doing a lot of your own thinking and learning rather than depending on others. Integrate previously acquired information into your own individualized mind-set. Think of your mind as an overloaded cabinet or closet seriously in need of filing and organization. It is time to process. You probably already know everything you need to know to handle a certain life situation. If you continue to depend on others for advice, you will find conversations meaningless within the context of your own intellectual needs and experience. Be aware that your mental processes are not very receptive to new information at this time. Your mind is like a cup that is filled to the brim. Any additional knowledge spills over and is lost. Work toward integrating what you already know.
You can experience this retrogradation as a certainty that you know you are right and only you can make the best decisions concerning your own future. What others tell you might clash with what you already know and you could tend to disregard their comments. You may be right, but the danger is that you may be wrong. You can be so in tune with your own thoughts that you are totally on the mark; then again, you might be totally off the beam. Take the time to reorganize information by focusing inward. You might find that your own opinions, thoughts, and decisions truly work best for you. But be aware of the feedback others give you, which may be particularly valuable if you have missed the mark.
Secretiveness is also associated with Mercury retrograde. There is a tendency to withhold information and sometimes lie. Generally, there are two major reasons for doing this: one is that you really do have secrets which need to be kept; the other is that expressing your opinions or thoughts openly causes tension in your relationships. Retrograde Mercury is associated with biting your tongue and swallowing your own words in order to keep peace. Your true opinions may not emerge until the start of the next solar return.
This time is excellent for putting your thoughts down on paper and writing original material. You will be able to see things differently when your thoughts are written down and this is a good way to get organized. Old opinions and beliefs may be outdated so you need to reassess your thinking, reformulate ideas, and shed new light on a subject area.
MERCURY SQUARE or OPPOSITE NEPTUNE ☿ ☍ ♆
Mercury square or opposite Neptune in the solar return chart can indicate that important factual information you receive during the year may be partial, inaccurate, or vague. Sometimes secrecy and deception play a role. Your normal points of reference for evaluating information may be changing. Without adequate facts, you may be left hanging for most of the year. It may be impossible for you to make a decision at this time or to evaluate your circumstances. You may be easily confused or misled, especially if the information you receive is inconsistent or incomplete. In older individuals, confusion may actually be senility. Neptune’s most negative interpretation is a loss of mental capabilities through drug and alcohol use or abuse. This tends to be an uncommon manifestation that is more closely associated with an individual pattern of consistent negative behavior. Most people will not fall into this trap.
This is not the time for detailed, factual information and left-brain processes. You may be more in touch with compassion, creativity, and spirituality than rational thought. Your sensitivity to subtlety increases and you acquire information through intuitive insights. Dealing with subtle experiences can lead to uncertainty and confusion. Increased intuitive awareness can precede the ability to weigh this information for its accuracy. It is sometimes difficult to discriminate between what is really intuitive or psychic and what is more closely akin to worry, fear, or false hope. Seeking practical applications for idealistic concepts and inspirations common with this combination can also cause stress.
Put your trust in the Universe during times of uncertainty. Focus on compassion rather than a search for mundane truth. Inconsistencies and confusion may not be resolved this year. Understand that in the end, all will be known. Be gentle with yourself when you are not as focused and detail-oriented as you used to be. Focus instead on right-brain, creative, artistic, intuitive, and spiritual processes.
MERCURY SEXTILE or TRINE PLUTO ☿ △
Mercury sextile or trine Pluto in the solar return chart can indicate that your conscious mind is very aware of unconscious material and psychological complexes. This awareness may originate from naturally occurring insights into human behavior or educational pursuits. You are better able to perceive what is unspoken or hidden. Motivations will be clearer to you even when they are not stated. The body language of others can be very revealing. Attempts at manipulation and psychological games will also be more obvious. Most likely this awareness will not be one-sided. You will be as aware of your own unconscious nature as you are of psychological complexes in others. Your close attention to detail, subtleties, and nuances is empowering. You become a better negotiator, manager, and teacher. You are able to address distortions related to ideology, prejudice, or intolerance. The implication here is that knowledge is power, and specifically in this case, it is knowledge about the unconscious mind which conveys power to those who are aware of it and able to gain insights from it. This information is as valuable as intellectual facts gained from school. The more you understand about the unconscious, emotions, and complexes, the more you are able to control your own impulses or resist the manipulative behavior of others.
INTRODUCTION to VENUS
Venus is the key to understanding your relationships and financial situation for the solar return year. Many times these two areas go hand in hand; financial security tends to be coupled with secure relationships while financial difficulties are more likely to occur when close relationships are strained. Although this correlation is common, it is not the rule, and interpretations for finances and relationships should always be viewed separately. When assessing Venus in the chart, evaluate Venus twice, first with respect to the other relationship factors in the solar return and then with respect to the other monetary indicators. In this way, you can develop a clear picture of each area of concern.
Venus also indicates a need for comfort and it is informative to note what has preceded Venus in its present house position. If, during this year, Venus resides in a house which last year represented an area of conflict, Venus would imply an improvement in the conditions associated with that house and may indicate a healing process. Benefits commonly follow after much hard work. A Venus placement in the solar return chart following a more difficult placement during the previous year can indicate great reward. Your awareness of this possibility may encourage you to work harder in more problematic areas since you can see the rewards in the following year.
RELATIONSHIPS
Venus, by house, shows what relationships will be important during the coming year. For example, Venus in the 3rd house might indicate that relationships with neighbors or community involvement will be emphasized. With Venus in the 6th house, pleasant office conditions, and good co-worker relationships will be important. But the interpretation of relationships as they appear in the solar return chart involves more than an understanding of Venus’ house placement. Look at the 5th and the 7th houses, especially if you are interested in a love relationship. The more planets in these houses, particularly the 7th house, the greater the need to relate on a one-to-one basis. Generally, the 5th house shows sexual affairs, while the 7th house indicates a greater commitment (though not necessarily marriage). Clandestine affairs or secret relationships are more likely to occur when Venus and/or the Moon appear in the 12th house.
One fact about marriage and the solar return chart is surprising. The solar return is not necessarily a good indicator of a marriage during the year. The beginning of a relationship might be easily seen, but the marriage itself is more likely to be reflected in other techniques. On the other hand, postponement of a marriage or the refusal to make a commitment can be easily seen with Saturn, Uranus or Neptune in the 7th house.
FINANCES
Venus also relates to money and finances, and can be used to evaluate these circumstances for the coming solar return year. The house placement for Venus may indicate how you are most likely to generate income. This is sometimes true, but not always. Venus in the 9th implies a teaching salary, but if you don’t teach, the emphasis will be on your beliefs concerning relationships. Don’t stretch your economic interpretation of Venus’ house placement. If the house position applies, the situation will be obvious. If the house position does not seem to apply to finances in particular, Venus will be more consistent with relationship situations during the year.
For finances, it is perhaps more important to look at the planetary placements in the 2nd, 6th, 10th, and 11th houses, especially if you are interested in the amount of money you will be able to earn by employment. The 2nd house is the primary money house, but it also gives indications of spending practices. Any planets in the 2nd can reflect your salary and/or your spending practices (regardless of how much money you earn); it is always possible to spend more than you make or make more than you spend.
VENUS in the 6TH HOUSE ♀ in 6th
You would think that Venus in the 6th house would be a sign of good health, and often this is true. It is possible to experience beneficial changes in wellness, diet, and exercise. Healthy individuals can make nutritional changes or establish exercise routines to maximize their energy and physical condition. If you have been ill, Venus may indicate a return to good health, or at least an improvement in your present condition. However, instead of an improvement, Venus can be associated with a tendency towards overindulgence and a susceptibility to its related diseases. The most common problems include, but are not limited to, weight gain, alcoholism, and skin problems. Women can have problems with the female organs. Perhaps the best strategy to use during the year is to practice those health routines which truly make you feel healthy.
The 6th house is also the house of work, and Venus placed here emphasizes the importance of good working relationships and a pleasant work environment. One relationship in particular might be especially important, and you may be romantically involved with a co-worker. All employees will want to have cordial relations with their office mates, while managers will seek to find pleasant ways to motivate their staffs.
Regardless of your position, you can benefit from the use of negotiation techniques, tact, and diplomacy in office situations. Your physical work environment is as important as the emotional climate. Your productivity can be increased by beneficial changes in your daily routine. New machinery, such as a computer, may be brought in to facilitate your job; scheduling may be altered to fit your personal needs; nonsmokers may be moved to a smoke-free office; you may be given a raise; or your work could be noticed and appreciated. If Venus is heavily aspected, there will be both positive and negative qualities to your job. Issues will be more complicated, as illustrated by the emphasis in the solar return chart.
VENUS SQUARE or OPPOSITE JUPITER ♀ □ ♃
When Venus is square or opposite Jupiter in the solar return chart, you can benefit, either directly or indirectly, through the influence or assistance of another. Relationships can be rewarding and you reap what you have sown. If you have been helpful and understanding to others in the past, you can expect the same treatment now. Your lover, business partner, or spouse should be actively supportive of your goals, either financially or emotionally. Indirect benefits can also come to you through your partner. For example, your spouse accepts a job transfer to Colorado and you always wanted to live in ski country.
Although you may benefit direct or indirectly through another, this does not necessarily mean you are a match made in heaven. When Venus is square or opposite Jupiter, there tends to be a philosophical difference between you and your partner. The two of you may not feel the same way about each other or the purpose of the relationship. Issues and conflicts regarding morals, ethics, and monogamy are possible and lead you to discuss whether your relationship is open or closed. The two of you may have different religious backgrounds and find it difficult to integrate beliefs. You might want children while your partner does not. Independent activities may limit time together as priorities can be different and conflict. One person’s needs might overwhelm the partner and dominate the relationship.
The same is true of spending practices. The tendency is to overextend the budget and spend more than you make or can afford. This can cause friction in any relationship. Gambling, risk taking, and addictions are possible, but less likely. The goal for the year either in regard to relationships or finances is one of balance and integration.
VENUS SEXTILE or TRINE NEPTUNE ♀ △ ♆
If you are already involved in a stable emotional relationship, Venus sextile or trine to Neptune may be more relevant to financial concerns than romantic interests. Financial circumstances will exhibit a degree of uncertainty, but this may work to your advantage. A break from work can be a leave of absence without pay, but it is more common to experience other reasons for financial uncertainty. You can be self-employed or have an income based on commissions, incentives, or profit-sharing; your hours may fluctuate or you might work on an “on-call” basis. Under these conditions, you will be unsure of the amount of your pay until the check arrives.
Changing circumstances might affect the amount of money available, (e.g., relocation, job change, large purchases, or major sales), and it is impossible to predict the effect these changes will have, especially if several variables are involved. For example, if you must sell your home and relocate to a different state, you will not know the final sale price for your present home, how much your new home is likely to cost, how much you will be able to earn at your new job, and how expensive it will be to live in the area. You must be careful with your funds until the figures are worked out. If you are expecting money from others in the form of a loan, gift or inheritance, you may not be sure how much you will receive or when you will receive it.
This is a good time to foster a strong appreciation of the nonmaterial side of life. Since monetary and external indicators are so uncertain, focus on the inner qualities. What makes you happy? Spend time with family or friends. Appreciate the beauty of a walk on the beach or in the woods.
Venus sextile or trine Neptune can also be relevant to understanding your relationships during the coming year. Significant emotional relationships can be very spiritual and compassionate. In strong relationships, the partners are more likely to be sensitive to each other’s needs. Empathy increases and inner qualities are the focus of attention and appreciation. You can be more aware of the subtleties of other’s unspoken preferences. This is also a good time for charitable endeavors and volunteering. The ability to be self-sacrificing is seen with this aspect.
If you are not already married, you or your partner may not wish to make a legal commitment at this time. You may prefer unbounded relations that are not defined by a stereotypical role. The lack of definition suits you or you prefer to keep your relationship secret.
At best, relationships possess a sense of compassion and sensitivity. You are able to foster spiritual development in each other. You have lofty ideals and are committed to making the world a better place. Uncertainty does not bother you. You take life one step at a time.
VENUS SQUARE or OPPOSITE PLUTO ♀ ☍
Venus square or opposite Pluto in the solar return shows intense emotional involvements and complicated financial situations. New relationships can be especially compelling, and like the moth to the flame, you are drawn to particular individuals without understanding why. Unconscious forces play a major role in this type of infatuation. The perceived loss of control and diminished rationality is disconcerting. Regardless of what you think or plan, you end up reacting to situations in a spontaneous and revealing manner. Your usual psychological defenses don’t seem to work, while all your unconscious complexes are laid bare for the world to see; consequently, a persistent sense of vulnerability becomes coupled with your growing need for intimacy.
In both new and old relationships, Venus square or opposite Pluto can indicate considerable emotional growth, but not without a good understanding of the unconscious urges and psychological games that are impediments to intimacy. Awareness of these intimacy barriers is crucial to the Plutonian process, while learning to deal effectively with these influences impacts the possibility for success of a relationship. Obviously, this is a good time for counseling of any kind.
Situational barriers include involvement with married, gay or bisexual partners, those living in a different locality, or those who realistically cannot be fully present or involved for one reason or another. These factors represent preexisting impediments to intimacy that were probably known or suspected before the relationship even began.
Psychological impediments to intimacy are those unconscious complexes which distort reality and destroy trust. These include, but are not limited to, possessiveness, obsessive thinking, sexual preferences, compulsive behaviors and controlling attitudes. Potential or existing partners can exhibit a new or troubling flaw (which may or may not be serious). For example, a very extravagant young lady was totally in love with her boyfriend, but troubled by his lack of wealth. She wanted him to meet her material expectations by earning more money; consequently, she sought to motivate (control and manipulate) his behavior.
Power can be an issue in intimate, casual, familial, and professional relationships. Individuals who learn to compromise and share power see their relationships deepen and strengthen, but this is not always possible. Major power struggles are not uncommon. You can feel powerless to control your own destiny, like your fate is dependent on the whims of others. Attempting to control others might seem like the only option. It’s not. Within this struggle, manipulative techniques are the main weapons; sex, money, and power become the main issues.
Financially, Venus square or opposite to Pluto indicates strong financial changes or complex monetary arrangements. Salary changes are common, both positive and negative, and may be the result of a career move, relocation, leave without pay, cutback in hours, or retirement. Ambition can cause your salary to rise, especially if your earnings are based on commissions or profit-sharing, but your tactics might be questionable. Relationship problems can directly affect your ability to concentrate and work, or your financial status may depend on the resources of others. Struggles over money or finances are seen with these aspects. Plan to be fiscally conservative. You might need to handle unexpected costs.
The emphasis here is on personal power in relationships and power over your own financial situation. By gaining insight into your behavior and the behavior of others, you can master both areas of concern.
INTRODUCTION to MARS
The planet Mars represents an outward thrust of energy in a solar return chart. It is an active energy geared toward producing an external manifestation brought about through interchanges with the environment. The arrow on the symbol for Mars illustrates this outward thrust and movement. The interplay with the environment and the area of greatest energy expenditure are shown by the aspects to Mars and its house placement. There can be a number of ways in which the outward thrust of energy and activity manifests in the external environment. Positive manifestations implied by Mars include self-motivation, independent action, initiation of new projects, assertiveness, fulfilling sexual encounters, and original or pioneering creations. But anger, aggression, and sexual abuses represent negative and wasteful expenditures. Energy lost in negative exchanges cannot be used productively.
Mars, by its very nature, denotes the spark of initiation and self-motivation. Original pursuits, independent actions and new projects are fostered during the year and are typically associated with those areas of life denoted by the house placement of Mars. Because of the new endeavors and the enthusiasm generated, these areas then become the focus of energy use as the level of activity increases and you begin to feel driven to work, accomplish, and complete. Sometimes ambition and competitiveness augment the need to excel, but an energetic attitude can flow without these personality traits since self-motivation tends to spring naturally from an inner source.
During the year, activities may be specifically tied to your ability or inability to be assertive. In its most positive manifestation, the planet Mars denotes an active force. Except for a few of the more subtle interpretations for Mars, the implication is an external thrust which affects other people, places, things or circumstances. For example, if you install a home office, you make a change in your living situation. If you start your own business, you do, in effect, change the environment. If you insist on control over your own finances, you create a more independent relationship style. In each of these cases, you are the individual initiating the activity and asserting your own needs which are essential to the task at hand. The inability to be assertive can only lead to frustrated desires and anger. Your efforts will be thwarted until you make adjustments in your thinking. When extreme frustration occurs, more energy is expended toward being angry than working toward correcting the problem.
The house position of Mars and its aspects to the other solar return planets provide information about the circumstances which will trigger angry responses in you. Anger may arise from a number of different circumstances, including, but not limited to, frustration at the inability to fulfill your own needs, aggression from others, stressful surroundings or unconscious resentment that has not been resolved. Anger is a signal that your attitude and/or environment need to change. Energy lost to anger cannot be used creatively. Anger that stimulates creative action can be recouped. Your task for the year will be to learn to deal effectively with these anger-producing situations. Do not allow anger to be triggered when insight coupled with assertiveness, tact or corrective action would suit your purposes better. As you focus on negative situations and gain understanding, you can begin to funnel your energies into the most positive manifestations.
Aggression is a distortion of assertiveness. Assertion is the defense and maintenance of your own rights; aggression is the infringement or attack on the rights of others. Anger is most likely the motivation for the attack, although psychological idiosyncrasies may provide other motivations (of which fear is the main culprit). All acts of aggression, by their very nature, should produce anger in the person attacked, though some individuals, because of their own psychological nature, respond in other ways. Where you find Mars by house position indicates where you are most likely to meet the aggressor during the coming year. Either you will have to deal with a hostile person in the environment or you will be confronted with your own acts of aggression. If you are able to meet your own needs through assertion and you know your own rights while conscientiously defending them, you are less likely to be the aggressor or allow aggressive actions to arise in others. You should be able to strike a balance between your needs, and rights, and the needs and rights of others. In this way, you maintain your position relative to the environment. But regardless of how fair you are in your dealings with others, you may still have to defend your own rights.
Mars as an indicator of sexuality is not consistent with the interpretation for every house position. There is the possibility that sexual intrigue can apply to the situations denoted by any of the planet’s placements, but the connection is not always obvious. Themes of initiation, high energy output, anger, and aggression appear more consistently. For example, Mars in the 10th may mean a sexual attraction between you and your boss, but it is more likely for you to be extremely active in career endeavors. Your boss can be a prime motivator toward career success or he could actually be very offensive and thwart your efforts. Note the aspects between Mars and your other personal planets for further information. The sexual implications of Mars seem more obvious in the relational houses, but then individual differences apply. Sexual fulfillment is directly related to the appropriateness of sexual activity given the particular situation and any restraints or inhibitions involved.
MARS in the 7TH HOUSE ♂ in 7th
This is a time to be energized by another person who can get you to do something you would not or could not do alone. In its most positive manifestation, collaboration with another carries you towards the initiation and completion of a project or joint endeavor. If the two of you can agree on mutual goals, you both can make great strides together. Your partner’s enthusiasm and drive become the primary motivating force. Most likely, it is the other person’s character which provides the spark of inspiration and the encouragement necessary to begin the task, but it is the interactive qualities of the relationship which keep each of you at a high energy level, working towards completion.
Hopefully, you will be dealing with someone who has your best interests at heart. The problem associated with this placement is that you can be led down the wrong path if you do not choose your friends and partners carefully. If you are connected to individuals who are bad for you, their effect will be negative. For example, if you wish to start a food cooperative and your spouse feels you are too inept to succeed, his or her negative influence will hurt your chances for success. But if he or she is totally supportive, and in fact, leads the way, your chances are greatly improved. A lot depends on the partner’s attitude. Since you are so susceptible to the influences of others, it is important to assess who the others are. Contacts can range from the most positive to the most detrimental, from successful achievement to damaging encounters. In the worst manifestation, involvement in a crime is possible. It is important to identify those relationships which are wrong for you and counteract their influence. Cultivate those more positive involvements which enhance your psychological health and soul qualities.
There is the possibility that you will be in a relationship which involves conflict. You may be angry with someone you see daily or this other person may be angry with you; anger in both directions is possible. It seems that every time you try to express your feelings to this other person, the two of you become involved in an argument. If this is your present situation, you could be involved in an ongoing conflict that continues throughout most of the year and colors your perceptions and attitudes.
Eventually, your frustration can spill over into other areas of your life and affect other relationships as well if you do not understand and contain the negative impact the conflict is having on your life. Disagreements may be poorly defined or specific, but generally involve a daily ongoing process. For example, a young man was to have inherited his grandfather’s watch, but unfortunately, just before the grandfather died, another relative had him change his will and the watch went to an uncle instead. It just so happened that the young man worked with the uncle daily in a family-run business. The uncle spent much time talking about his good fortune. The young man constantly felt angry and tense at work because of the uncle’s presence and actions.
The conflict may only involve a general dislike for a person you see on a regular basis, or it can be more. Interactions range from mild irritation to legal battles, personal vendettas, both sexual, and nonsexual harassment, and aggression of any kind. More than likely, another is an aggressor if you allow yourself to be the victim. Don’t lose sight of your self-esteem and need for self-expression. Be aware of your rights in any given situation. Someone may be telling you what to do, what to wear and who to be. You need to learn to practice assertiveness this year and it could be necessary to learn to protect or defend yourself. In very difficult situations, you need to decide whether you will fight or retreat. Some situations can be ignored, or controlled; others require a more definitive response.
Learning to cope with angry people and angry situations may be part of the lesson associated with Mars in the 7th house of the solar return chart. Now is the time to deal with unresolved issues even if they have lain dormant for many years. Time is running out and you must act now. Learn to handle the curt responses and hurtful remarks and go for the heart of the conflict. Do not get sidetracked. Force the issues into the open so they can be discussed and understood from all sides. As long as anger remains denied or insidious, problems cannot be resolved. If resolutions are totally unattainable, learn to shield yourself from the barbs or retreat to more beneficial situations. Do not stay in situations which are detrimental or counteract positive growth and insight.
Mars is also the planet of competitiveness. Here in the 7th house, it shows that the spirit of competition spurs you to action. You will be motivated to work harder if you are competing with peers or even enemies. The “I’ll show you” attitude can work in your favor. You are very sensitive to criticism from others this year, and anticipation of future criticism, either real or imagined, can motivate you to work harder now and get more done.
MARS SEXTILE or TRINE JUPITER ♂ ⚹ ♃
Actions which directly support or contradict belief systems are associated with Mars-Jupiter aspects in the solar return chart. Jupiter rules beliefs and philosophy while Mars rules actions. When Mars is sextile or trine Jupiter, personal ethics and morals tend to be respected and acted on accordingly, though this is not always the case. Regardless, you are acutely aware of the role your beliefs play in controlling or directing behavior.
The task associated with Mars sextile or trine Jupiter is to seek moderation in all things and behave in a manner that is consistent with your ethical, moral, or philosophical beliefs. To do this, you may have to discriminate between what is an impractical belief, given your behavior, and what is a hypocritical action, given your beliefs. The greatest success comes from the choices you make which truly reflect your beliefs and priorities. Your beliefs are reflected in the solar return house placement for Jupiter. The actions you wish to take are reflected in the house placement for Mars.
Because Jupiter is known as the greater benefic planet, when Mars is sextile or trine Jupiter, reward, recognition, advancement, expansion, and benefit are possible. Take advantage of opportunities as they arise and even create opportunities for yourself. Expect success. Luck is on your side.
MARS SEXTILE or TRINE SATURN ♂ △ ♄
Mars sextile or trine Saturn implies a need for well-planned activity which is strongly based on a realistic assessment of the situation. If you are involved in a major project, personality characteristics such as discipline, perseverance, and organizational ability may be needed for the hard work ahead. This is a good time to work toward completing long-term goals, especially if you appreciate the amount of effort that is required. You are able to accomplish according to your strengths and acquired skills.
As you strive to succeed in any endeavor, you have to maintain an awareness of societal structures, norms, and institutions. Those who are able to work within set guidelines will be highly productive. Certain requirements will be expected of you as a member of society. For instance, if you wish to borrow money to purchase your first home, you must deal with a bank or mortgage company and meet their requirements for loan customers. This is a good time to push carefully for success, but it is also a good time to cut back on activities if a realistic reassessment of your feelings and life situation tells you to do so. For instance, if you are a young mother wishing to quit work because you have small children, budgeting finances might be a must. Careful planning can make things possible.
Saturn rules reality and practicality. It is not enough to be organized; your plans cannot be implemented if they are unrealistic or impractical. Be rational and logical. After assessing the situation, develop a plan, perhaps have a dry run. Hone your skills. Gain experience. Take your time and do not rush. Know that delays can work to your advantage.
INTRODUCTION to JUPITER
Jupiter has a number of possible interpretations in the solar return chart and any or all of the following meanings can manifest according to house position. First and foremost, Jupiter tends to imply a benefic event associated with its placement. How these benefits come about and the area of life affected are usually shown by the house position.
All opportunities will probably involve expansion into new areas of activity. The primary function of the Jupiter principle is to expand beyond the scope of previous experience. One is not to remain in a static condition; growth is not only implied, but expected. Jupiter’s slow and consistent movement through the zodiac implies the steady growth needed to advance.
One of the most common activities associated with growth and expansion is the pursuit of an education. The impetus to learn is closely associated with any push to grow and our definition of learning in this case is not limited to a structured environment (school), but can include self-teaching and life-experience training. Although education is not always a consideration for every Jupiter house placement, it can be considered to have an impact on any of the houses.
Areas of expansion can easily become areas of excess and this is a problem with Jupiter. Growth can be uncontrolled and purposeless, dwarfing any push for real attainment or benefit. For example, overeating may supplant a desire for nutritious food when Jupiter is in the 6th house. The weight gain takes the place of education. Already existing situations associated with any house placement of Jupiter may boil over if extreme limitations were previously the norm. This is especially true when emotions overwhelm the individual after a long period of emotional suppression. Any Jupiter placement can signal a false god. One or more activities associated with Jupiter’s house may be emphasized to such a degree that a distortion of perception results, creating the false god.
Perhaps excesses are directly and proportionately related to suppressed urges. We now zoom ahead where we previously lagged behind, making up for lost time. The overwhelming impetus enables us to grow and expand at a rapid pace. The task is to avoid restricting this growth, while staying in control. The best option is one of channeled and structured enthusiasm.
A question of ethics and morals is often associated with the house placement of Jupiter. Unlike Saturn, which is more representative of societal structures and expectations, Jupiter implies the need for a philosophical (or sometimes religious) consistency between what you are doing physically and what you believe you should be doing ethically or morally. The underlying belief is always at the center of any conflict, not the external expectation. Jupiter by house indicates a desire to review those beliefs commanding a strong influence over one’s philosophy of life and code of behavior. Current beliefs may be limiting future growth or freedom. Within this perspective, hypocrisy and moral dilemmas are more commonly a problem than the frustration associated with Saturnian external laws.
JUPITER in the 8TH HOUSE ♃ in 8th
The 8th house is commonly associated with the earnings of others while the 2nd house is more indicative of your own earning power. Therefore, Jupiter in the 8th primarily focuses on the money made available to you after someone else has already earned it. During the year, your financial situation may improve specifically because you are now able to share resources with another person. If you have already been sharing resources up to this point, the dollar amount of the shared funds is likely to increase. This placement commonly shows money coming to you through others, possibly in the form of a lump sum. For those who are interested in making a large purchase such as a home, combining incomes and savings makes the goal a reality.
Besides shared resources, you may acquire money through other means. These other means include an inheritance, gift or monetary settlement from an insurance claim or legal case. Funds from profit sharing, royalties, and advances for books or inventions are also more commonly seen in the 8th house, even though one would think they would be more consistent with 2nd house earnings. Because of the extra money coming in, this may be a good time to place some funds in an investment account or hire a broker to manage your money. In this way your money works for you, creating extra funds through means other than salary.
Most likely, if you share incomes with another, you must also share his or her debts, and unfortunately, this person can be a big spender. The negative interpretation for financial concerns associated with this placement is that you are just as likely to experience increased expenses and debts caused by the other person as you are to have more money available. The pendulum can swing either way.
Ethical questions relevant to sexual morality are important and must be addressed. Situations you face this year are meant to force you to further define your own moral code. Therefore sexual opportunities you encounter, regardless of whether or not you take advantage of the experience, must be understood within the context of your own religious or philosophical ideals. Issues concerning sexual freedom, preference, and practices are most noteworthy. Regardless of your age, the cycle is such that either you must look at these concepts for the first time or you must review what now can be considered preconceived notions. For example, a young teenager was faced with the possibility of her first sexual encounter, while a much older woman who had always defined her relationships as “open” now began to desire a monogamous relationship with her lover. Each of these people dealt with the philosophical aspect of the dilemma as well as the actual feelings, thoughts, and events.
For those who have the training or innate ability to make the leap to psychological understanding, the sexual and/or monetary situations and issues encountered during the year become a springboard to greater knowledge of the inner motivations and unconscious complexes of others. The intensity of relationships in these two areas of concern fosters great insight when one is able to read the subtleties of the mind.
INTRODUCTION to SATURN
Saturn rules reality and the reality of any given situation is that we are all ultimately responsible for creating our own lives. The responses and choices we make to any given situation, together with the fears we avoid, form the backbone for our pattern of living. Only when we accept the responsibility for creating our own fate can we be freed from the necessity of living it. Only when we face our fears can we live unafraid. Saturn is the key to this change in orientation. It is the ultimate reality, the ultimate fear, the karmic avenger, and ruler of the universal laws of nature. It is through Saturn’s house placement that we come face to face with ourselves, the structures, and limitations of reality, and the laws we must live by.
Growth is a complex process, occurring in a variety of ways. Saturnian growth begins by recognizing the existing structures we have incorporated into our lives, and possibly, the frustration or limitation caused by this edifice. It seems strange to talk about growth in terms of limitation, but astrologically Saturn rules structures which are at one point protective and at other times restrictive. Like the lobster or crab which sheds an outgrown, protective, hard shell in order to grow, individuals must periodically shed old structures grown restrictive with time. As with the crustaceans, the shedding process may be slow and laborious, followed by a period of extreme vulnerability until the new shell has formed and hardened into a protective structure. We often complacently mistake familiarity for security. We assume we’ll be safe as long as we stick with the same old routine and keep doing what we’ve been doing all along. But what was once protective and safe eventually ends up inhibiting our evolutionary cycle of growth. Sometimes, only our frustration with things as they are awakens us to the need for change.
The movement of Saturn through the solar return chart coincides with an awareness of structure. Sometimes this awareness is associated with frustration, and the accentuation of restrictions now blocking evolution. It is through this realization process and frustration that we first become aware of the need to grow beyond our present structures. Therefore, the first step in the Saturnian process toward growth is recognizing structures, frustrations, and limitations imposed by our present patterns of living, particularly in those areas of life signified by Saturn’s house placement in the solar return.
The second step toward growth is reassessment of the situation. A review of the facts yields further information, options, and understanding. Only by defining the inhibitors to the evolutionary cycle can we move toward resolution and continued growth. Self-criticism and constructive feedback from others may be appropriate at this time.
It is during the reassessment process that the reality of our situation becomes more obvious, as well as the laws by which we are governed. To succeed, we must deal with life realistically. We cannot twist nature to our own liking, nor can we expect others to compensate for our deficiencies and fears by solving our problems. Saturn rules the naked truth devoid of magical thinking. We must live within the laws of nature to succeed and survive. If you hate your job, quit. Do not wait for an act of God to find a new job. If you want to complete a major project, work on it. It is the only way it will get done. If you want to lose weight, diet, and exercise. Hard work and facing the issues head on will get you where you want to go. Wishful thinking will not.
These issues are all totally within your range of control and you are free to act upon them, but other problems may not be yours to control. You cannot make your husband stop drinking; you can only change the way you handle the situation. You cannot change hypocrisy in others; you can only reassess your own beliefs. During the reassessment process, develop realistic options which could feasibly lead to a resolution of the problem or to a change in the way you handle the problem. Successful solutions are those which are practical and realistic -that is, they conform to the laws of nature.
Once you understand the problem and the options available, you must assume responsibility for the outcome. Each man or woman contributes to his or her own fate. As the partial creator of any problem, you also have some control over the solution. But assuming responsibility for your present situation can be more threatening than blaming others. Some prefer to buck the system (defy the laws of nature) and complain, rather than take action. Remember, familiarity breeds a false sense of security and many prefer to hang on to their restrictions rather than venture into the unknown. They learn to live with their frustration rather than grow beyond it. Consciously making a decision implies assuming responsibility for your success or failure.
Facing your fears concerning success or failure is ultimately what Saturn is all about. At this point, you are very aware of the reality of your situation, and you have a list of options for the future, not all of which may work. You understand your own contribution to the situation and what you must do in order to move toward a resolution. You have seen your own shortcomings and become aware of your darker side. You comprehend the laws of nature relative to your situation and know everything is earned in this case, nothing is given, and nothing is guaranteed by the Universe. You now realize that you must stick your nose out and take a calculated risk. In order to progress, you must face your fears, and move toward your nightmare rather than back away. It is only by passing through a period of vulnerability that one can break out of a protective, yet restrictive structure and progress into a more suitable environment. You give up the security of the familiar and step into the unknown.
The test of any solution is that it works. Even chronic problems need to be solved and not just cosmetically concealed. Success requires much hard work and the systematic testing of solutions until the correct combination is found. Consequently, success may not come easily. If the first solution does not work, you must go on to test another and another. Thus with each failure begins a new cycle of awareness and reassessment, ultimately leading to a well-deserved success. There is plenty of room for hard work, discipline, and perseverance in the area of life indicated by Saturn’s house placement. Eventually, every area of life will be touched by the need for reassessment and resolution. Chances are the time for reevaluation coincides with Saturn’s placement in a particular house of the solar return. In that area of life, you must go above and beyond what is normally expected.
SATURN in the 11TH HOUSE ♄ in 11th
Saturn in the 11th house indicates a need to reassess goals for the future. The goals you presently hold are no longer practical in light of new situations you are moving into or new information you are receiving. They are outdated either because of external changes in your environment or internal changes in your personality. Perhaps they are now inconsistent with your present or future needs for fulfillment. A lack or loss of goals can be implied by Saturn in the 11th house, but generally as old goals prove unworkable, new ones will arise to take their place. It is only rarely that the individual decides to take a year’s vacation. Working mothers who take a year’s leave of absence from work to care for a child sometimes have this placement.
Now is the time to rethink your future and take corrective action where necessary. A new college graduate, also a new army wife, followed her husband to Germany where she discovered she was not allowed to work in her chosen profession despite her degree. She had to rethink her goals for the coming year while overseas. Those who are newly divorced must also rethink their goals in light of their single life-style. This can be a year of great accomplishment for those who settle on a direction quickly and move steadily toward achievement. The new goals you develop tend to suit you better than the old ones, but they need a great deal of work to become a reality. Saturn is the ruler of hard work, practical applications and realistic ventures.
Working with a group of people may give you a better sense of discipline and organization than you would have on your own since you are more likely to take on extra responsibility. You can work harder for the sake of group goals and the extra push might prove ultimately beneficial for all. One astrologer with this Saturn placement taught a group of other astrologers a particular astrological technique and eventually used his organized notes to publish a complete course. However, group dynamics can be cumbersome. You might feel that your individual opinions and identity are lost because of the democratic process and the need to conform. There will be times when you disagree with group leadership or direction. Even if you are the leader, your ideas and opinions can still be watered down by the need for agreement. But working with a group might help you to get off the ground and push you toward making your goals a reality.
Friendships can be lost during the year and there are several possible reasons why this might occur. Most commonly, either you or your friend move, relocating at a great distance away. If you and your husband, wife, lover or partner are splitting up, friends will tend to fall into either camp. They drop away if they were primarily connected to your mate or set on seeing the two of you as a couple. Serious or older friends are also indicated by this placement. Those friends who were mere playmates tend to be less prominent as the year wears on. Your focus is more on business relationships geared toward making connections than on casual friendships. Obligatory friendships (more commonly seen in the business world) are possible.
Money from your career may decrease this year, especially if you are pursuing a goal that cannot be financially lucrative, at least in less than one year’s time. Long-term goals tend to be more consistent with this placement than short-term goals or immediate compensation. In this sense, you may work harder for the same amount of money or even less. Wage freezes are rare but possible; raises may be delayed during the year. For any promotion, you may have to assume extra responsibility to receive any monetary increase. Volunteer work can also be implied by this placement.
INTRODUCTION to URANUS
Uranus is commonly seen as an indicator of change, and this is true for the solar return placements also. Conditions associated with the house position of Uranus are likely to evolve significantly over the year. Major changes or incessant fluctuations emerge as the pattern of manifestation, depending on how the individual copes with his or her situation and needs. Transformations may occur quickly and require a long period of adjustment, or progress slowly, possibly occurring late in the year and only after a long period of anticipation or restlessness. As a rule, most changes are expected, predicted, and initiated by the native him or herself. Many are carefully planned and well executed, involving a minimum of tension and anxiety. When working positively with the Uranian principle, the key is in the restlessness. Those who are very attuned to their own need for growth will feel the restlessness arising in outgrown situations and respond accordingly. They will welcome the opportunity for adjustment, and make all the necessary preparations for the coming change. They will not lock themselves into one particular situation or pattern of growth, but will allow changes and insights to develop and evolve naturally along the way.
Generally, it is only when the individual thwarts his or her own desires or tightly controls situations that tensions manifest in the form of anxiety and nervousness. This anxiety results from ambivalent feelings which develop in those who resist needed changes. These people get caught between their own fear of change and a strong desire for the very change being thwarted. An ambivalent mind-set takes over, one built on an approach to, and also an avoidance of, a set goal or change. Remember, Uranus is associated with conscious and unconscious choices for change. Its appearance somewhere in the native’s solar return chart implies the area of life in which the individual desires to progress through change. When one is unable to face or effect needed and desired changes, the mind splits between two mutually exclusive goals and anxiety results. Eventually, the mental ambivalence and erratic commitments to two very different paths are reflected in fluctuating external conditions. Long overdue, yet still avoided changes, tend to manifest in the environment as disruption caused by others, or by neglected areas of attention.
Adding to the anxiety is a perceived loss of control over external situations. Eventually, the restlessness and tension rise to a feverish pitch until one finally agrees to make changes, or can no longer prevent their occurrence. When conditions reach this intensity, individuals usually make reactive changes, without careful consideration or adequate preparation. Sudden upheavals occur rather than welcomed transitions. If we would truly be in control of our own destiny, we should listen to the need for change and respond to the earliest hints of restlessness. We should give ourselves the freedom to work toward a conscious transition before a crisis arises.
Consistent with the desire for change is the need for freedom. You cannot maneuver if you are locked into a restrictive environment. Sometimes the push for freedom is a prerequisite for change. At other times, the change itself becomes the motivating force behind the process. Occasionally, both mechanisms are operating. For example, you may have to convince your boss to give you the freedom to make needed changes in the daily office routine; at the same time, the changes you make could streamline procedures, creating more leeway in your work schedule.
Freedom allows the process of change to occur smoothly. When we are functioning at our best and working positively with the Uranian concept, we move easily through a series of attractions, detachments and independent actions. We learn and grow from each of these encounters. While in the process of attraction, we are drawn to certain situations, persons or concepts. It is important to observe what experiences we are drawn to because they indicate conscious or unconscious needs and patterns of growth. By accepting different situations, interacting with different individuals, or listening to new ideas, we take in new information and learn to value various facets of life. We see that no one person, place or idea is perfect. The same is true of our existing circumstances, which we hold onto so tightly.
With this insight begins the period of detachment from those situations, persons, or concepts which restrict our growth or no longer have anything to teach us. We are able to step back and intellectually reassess our involvement and commitment. We can either choose to separate physically from difficult situations, or take the corrective action needed to adjust present circumstances to our needs.
Uranus does not always imply a complete and total separation. We are capable of detaching from the original attraction while still maintaining the experience, relationship, or train of thought. It is the independent action we ultimately take which defines the degree of separation.
We learn as much from separation as we do from attraction when we define what we don’t like as well as what we do like. The changing environment, the comparisons and contrasts, accentuate what is important and what is not. One should remember that this process of change through attachment, detachment and independent action is ongoing, occurring on many different levels simultaneously. The process can be either quick, occurring numerous times in one day, or drawn out, requiring a year’s time span. For example, suppose you are building a new home. This is a year-long project and during this time you will be drawn to many different construction plans, ideas, and subcontractors. But as you begin to work with the possibilities, you will accept, reject, or change options to suit your needs. This process takes place over months, but also simultaneously many times in one day.
The exposure to various ideas, situations and people stimulates creative thought through sudden insight into changing situations. All planets represent a creative process. Venus is the planet of creativity experienced through beauty, while Uranus is the process experienced through change. Because of the changing panorama of people, ideas, and situations, one becomes accustomed to looking at life from different perspectives. The multifaceted approach encourages the mind to create still newer ideas. In this way the individual begins to participate in the process of attachment, detachment and independent action by creating his or her own original options, and change becomes a process of perception, integrated into the pattern of growth.
URANUS in the 3RD HOUSE ♅ in 3rd
Uranus in the 3rd house is associated with rapid thinking processes and changing thought patterns. The mental acceleration can work to your advantage if you are in a pressured situation where decisions must be made quickly or information must be learned in a short period of time. This is an excellent time to take a crash course or intensive which forces you to learn a lot of material in a fast-paced classroom situation. Independent learning and correspondence courses are also possible since you have the ability to study on your own and move ahead at your own pace. The information under study should be unusual in some way, geared toward stimulating creativity, insight and free thinking. Do not limit your thoughts because of preconceived notions.
It is very likely that during this time you will receive or learn information which could have a very strong effect on your perception of reality and your pattern of thought. This information may come to you through your studies, through conflict with others, or through intuitive insights, but the effect of the information will be transformational, causing your perception of reality to go through a period of adjustment.
During the year, your opinions will change sequentially as the weeks go by; therefore, this is not the time to make irrevocable statements. You may end up eating your own words later on. A better course of action is to allow the mind complete intellectual freedom for the purposes of investigation and insight. Do not limit your thoughts to what is already known, what is rational, or what you are told. Allow your thoughts to form intuitively, creatively or unconsciously. Work with information from many levels of experience to gain a better understanding of your true reality. You can gain great insight if you read between the lines and accept all information that comes your way without judgment. Let the final say occur toward the end of the year after all the information is in.
There is a propensity for anxiety and nervousness with Uranus in the 3rd house. Mental problems are associated with a fixation on what is desired or expected rather than an openness to new possibilities for the future. Anyone who experiences acute anxiety or panic attacks should seek counseling. But most individuals will find this placement somewhat nerve-wracking unless they are able to channel mental tension into productive pursuits such as learning, insight, creativity, etc. A lot of the tension arises from the sequential changes in thinking that occur during the year, but daily disruptions, constant interruptions and hectic schedules also contribute. It is difficult to plan a routine while Uranus is in the 3rd house. At the very least, you may be attempting to do too much in too little time. The tendency is to work with scattered thoughts and many activities, scattering your energy in several directions even on a single day.
Crisis situations rather than well-organized routines are the norm, since your daily activities generally demand more time than you actually have available. If you are trying to do five different things on any one day, and realistically you can only schedule in four, each day will have a different rotating schedule so that you can fit everything in on a weekly basis. Your hectic schedule leaves little room for adjustments when problems occur, and of course, problems do occur. Imagine ad-libbing your daily routine for a year because you and everyone and everything around you are changing. Daily life just does not run smoothly enough for you to stick to a schedule.
Uranus can be indicative of original thinking and creativity. You need time to create. Ideas can be close to the surface, yet just out of reach. This is why disruptions can be especially annoying when they interrupt the creative process. It is important to establish some quiet time to allow insights to manifest. Find a way to retain your thoughts and insights. If you are on the go a lot and creative insights are developing quite rapidly, you can use a tape recorder to preserve your thoughts. Allow erratic energy to flow out freely and come to the surface. This is not the time to limit your mental wanderings simply because you question their logical implications. The thought processes are not very organized or directed this year. There is the tendency to go around and around to get to a simple truth. Play with ideas and concepts. Restricting your erratic insights could mean limiting your creativity.
Conflicts are not directly associated with Uranus in the 3rd house, but a bad temper can be. The stress of daily life can make you snap at people and make rash statements you later regret. The connotation here is more akin to, “Open mouth, insert foot,” than argumentativeness, but you can only make faux pas so many times before you enter a verbal battlefield. Learn to think before your open your mouth. Do not jump to conclusions. Remember that anything you say can get back to others and can be used against you.
Problems with brothers, sisters or neighbors may arise during the year. These people may not be especially dependable or predictable and a conflict of interest may occur. This is not the more common interpretation for this placement. The emphasis seems to be more on the mental changes and creativity. You can work things out through discussions, but be careful what you say. Neighborhood problems can be addressed through involvement in the community association. It is possible that rather than disagreeing with a neighbor, a close friend in the neighborhood needs your help during the coming year.
INTRODUCTION to NEPTUNE
Neptune is many things on many levels, but first and foremost it is the aspiration for a higher manifestation as opposed to a lower one. The distinctions between higher and lower influences are not limited to the spiritual plane alone, but can occur on the emotional, mental and physical levels also. At all times, it is up to the individual to steer his or her consciousness toward the highest manifestation possible. For example, Neptune on the spiritual level is associated with Universal Oneness, Karmic Laws, Ideals, God, and higher beliefs which form the backbone of spirituality. A strong sense of trust in God and the Universe supports the growth process on the spiritual level, but has ramifications on the other levels as well. Each level of experience supports and triggers the others. It is all the insights on all of the levels which eventually help us toward a more rewarding and fulfilling life-style. The lower manifestation of Neptune on the spiritual level is disillusionment with higher principles. Here the individual falls off the true path and becomes entangled in fanatical beliefs or outright fantasy. Spiritual despair rather than enlightenment is the result, and the support needed for growth on all levels is thwarted.
The same dichotomy of higher and lower is present on the emotional, mental and physical planes also. At the emotional level, the individual is capable of great compassion and sensitivity to others. This is a time when empathic understanding strengthens the bonds between loved ones. The lower manifestation of Neptune is a susceptibility to anxiety and worry. The sensitivity which is meant to foster true understanding instead heightens a sense of vulnerability to life, others and the future. There is no trust in God emanating from the spiritual level to support decisions. In negative situations, true understanding of others does not develop because the individual is too involved with personal feelings and issues to focus on others.
At the mental level, creativity and inspiration help to expand the individual’s intellectual capacity. Neptune is more closely associated with the right brain than the left, and indicates the ability to let the mind float free to new and better insights. The lower manifestation is confusion and deception. What you are told is different from what you intuitively feel. Thoughts contradict insights and you are unable to comprehend the truth. There is no trust of the higher right brain inspirational or spiritual processes. Creativity is thwarted. Without an understanding of the big picture, mental energy is wasted through a lack of cohesiveness as one begins to focus on the insignificant, confusing details.
And finally, Neptune on the physical level is service to others. Principles which have filtered down from the various levels and have been understood in each of the higher manifestations begin to flow into daily practices on the mundane plane. There is a consistency; as above, so below. It is possible to physically manifest the spirituality to which you aspire. When only lower manifestations have filtered down to the physical level, confusion, disorganization and exhaustion are most apt to occur. You lack a total concept necessary to unify your actions and prioritize tasks according to their importance. Neptune at its highest level of manifestation on the physical plane is a direct reflection of the enlightened promise made at the spiritual level.
In all of the houses, either the higher or lower manifestations will be operating. The more the individual focuses on the higher energies, the more cohesive and insightful actions will become. The more the individual is sensitive to spiritual insight, the easier it will be to deal with issues on every plane. The unifying principles of the spiritual level and the higher manifestations combine to focus energy and understanding right on down the line.
NEPTUNE in the 1ST HOUSE ♆ in 1st
In its very highest manifestation, Neptune in the 1st house is associated with a renewed commitment of the self to a higher force or principle. This placement implies spirituality in being and in action. It is not enough to believe in higher forces-you must also act accordingly, practicing what you preach. During the year, the individual is seen as a part of the Universal Whole, possessing both personal insignificance and great spiritual importance at the same time. Insignificance occurs when the individual tries to stand alone. Self-centered needs and egotism are dwarfed in comparison to the spiritual process, and do not matter in the long run. If the will is not in keeping with the Divine purpose, it is limited and meaningless. Purely personal endeavors tend to get sidetracked before completion since the needs of others are more pressing, understandable, and important within the context of the Whole. For this reason, one tends to be egoless at this time, giving unselfishly to others and subjugating the self to a higher purpose.
Even though this is a time of personal insignificance, it is also a time of great spiritual importance for the individual. If you choose to view yourself and your soul within the realm of Universal consciousness, you will become aware of the role you play in the spiritual process and your ability to affect another soul’s growth and potential. This is a time when you might understand some truth others miss, and if you are willing to give unselfishly, you can be a beacon for those who are blind. Situations may be subtle or blatant, commitments passing or definitive. In less obvious interchanges, compassion is increased, and you naturally want to help others. You become the Good Samaritan giving your time and energy to those in need whether family, neighbors or friends. In blatant interchanges, there is a definite request followed by a firm commitment to a cause, task or individual. You know what you are getting into. Some will chose to help many; others, only one particular person. As a rule, the process of assisting others comes easily and naturally when there is an awareness of a principle higher than one’s own ego. During these times of giving, you will be encouraged to grow spiritually. Tasks usually exceed previous understanding and capabilities, and you must rise to the occasion through further enlightenment.
Certain cautions are necessary. Be sure the person or people you assist respond to your help in one way or another. Either their condition should improve, or they should learn new patterns of behavior, possibly responding with love and kindness toward you or someone else. It is not essential that you personally receive a return. This placement is associated with selflessness and what you are doing may specifically require an unselfish act of love. However, don’t repeatedly waste your energy when there is no improvement at all. There are exceptions to this rule. Certain conditions are degenerative by their very nature, and do not lend themselves to improvement. For example, you may be caring for a person with a debilitating or progressive illness.
The manifestation of giving is meant to be helpful to the receiver, not draining for the giver. This is a year when you may be drawn to people in constant need, and in very negative interchanges when your help is not accepted, appreciated or effective, you will be drained. Do not become victimized by alcoholics, drug addicts or those who really require professional help, but refuse to seek it. Do not become so enamored of another person’s problems that you close your eyes to your own welfare. It is possible to enter or remain in a situation which is personally difficult for you and has no easy ending or way out. You adapt so easily to those around you that you might adapt yourself into a psychologically unhealthy situation. Maintain a sense of spiritual purpose. Regardless of your circumstances, whether you are involved in a positive or negative gift of love, push for insight and growth.
While you are focusing on higher thoughts, you may have more difficulty with personal direction. You may not always understand your own actions, and can feel confused, indecisive, or lacking in ego definition. Surefootedness and stubborn opinions are unlikely because you are easily swayed. Self-knowledge will be elusive as you continually discover previously unknown facets of your personality. Preferences and abilities are in a state of flux. Unfortunately, it may not be easy to relate to your own quirks, or see your own contribution to problems and issues. This is especially true if one is not working toward spiritual enlightenment. Instead, you can be evasive or deceiving, lying when pressured. If the future appears uncertain, this is a time to go with the flow of events even though you are not sure where it will lead. Perhaps you are choosing to wait for another person to make a move or decision and this contributes to your uncertainty.
In rare instances, drugs, alcohol or personality aberrations can be the cause of your confusion or weakened vitality. Ongoing addictions can be particularly detrimental this year since this is a time when your body would tend to be overly sensitive to all medications, even prescription drugs. For this reason, alternative medical treatments might be more beneficial.
When living on the higher Neptune level, confusion, indecision, and drug-related problems are unlikely. You are much more likely to act on intuition, instinctively flowing with the Higher Self.
INTRODUCTION to PLUTO
In the solar return chart, the interpretation of Pluto includes an understanding of the issue of power and its various manifestations, which can be directed toward three different points of focus and through three different life processes. Complications are associated with all of these orientations and processes since each manifestation is multidimensional and complex, occurring not only on the physical level, but on the intellectual, emotional and spiritual levels as well. Within these complex situations, power can be focused on three different targets: the self, others, and/or circumstances. As a rule, the power to control oneself is mostly beneficial, the power to control others is mostly detrimental and the power to control situations varies according to the circumstances involved. By studying Pluto’s house placement in the solar return chart, you can assess in which areas of life these control issues are most likely to arise. The scope and effects of the power issues are seen through the connections to other solar return planets.
Power also manifests through three different processes. One may choose sameness, elimination or transformation. When you choose to keep things the way they are, it is implied that there is some force urging you to change and you are resisting this force. A possible power struggle might ensue. When you choose elimination, you relinquish control over some facet of your life or refuse to have further contact. When you choose change, you may be either yielding to an outside power or actively seeking transformation of that which already exists. Let us explore the power orientations and processes further.
THREE DIFFERENT POINTS of FOCUS
Generally, the focal point of self is beneficial. As long as you are using Plutonian insights and techniques to control yourself, to own your own power and to further your own growth, the process will be a positive learning experience, unless you overcontrol yourself, succumbing to hair-shirt asceticism, taking self-denial to absurd extremes. The greater your awareness of yourself and Universal principles, the more likely you are to make good decisions. You become the captain of your own destiny. Enlightenment leads to power and power leads to enlightenment as a rewarding cycle of manifestation is set in motion.
However, those who use psychological insights to control and block their own growth waste precious energy. They set up a negative pattern of stagnation wherein insights are not accepted as they are, but twisted to fit previously conceived notions about life and self. Rather than progressing through enlightenment, the individual uses insights as weapons against growth and understanding, opting for sameness despite new information. Contradictory realizations are not allowed to surface; instead they are either suppressed or misinterpreted. In very negative situations such as these, the power associated with increased Plutonian awareness and its creative potential is never realized.
The same thwarting of personal growth is evident when you shift your attention from self to the need to control others. By and large, this is not a good focal orientation. The symbolism of the planets exists in your consciousness so that you can grow and prosper from insight. Since growth begins at home, the main thrust of the focus should always be toward self, and it is generally unnecessary and also counterproductive to shift the emphasis to an external struggle. The most efficient use of power exists on the internal plane because it takes much less energy to control your own reactions than to seek power over someone else. Once power is removed from the inner self and used to control others, the effectiveness is reduced. Stalemated power struggles are particularly detrimental because they deplete resources. It is conceivable that there are life situations where it is essential to control another person. For example, children, disabled or elderly loved ones may not be able to make informed decisions. In these situations you might be asked or forced to wield power over another. You are meant to grow from all your experiences. Even in these instances, self-awareness and insight are crucial to the decisions you make. Start with yourself first, then work your way outward. Blaming others for your problems distorts the perception of self and the realization of your own personal involvement. Always be aware of the interactive process and the role you play in it. This internal perspective is of primary importance, much more so than the process of controlling someone else.
Trying to control life situations can lead to power struggles, but at some point in your life it may be essential to make a stand for the good of your own growth or that of world consciousness. Ultimately, it is much better for you to control yourself, but this is not always possible. Someone can be seeking to control you, your family or your livelihood. Certain injustices must be corrected for everyone to progress, and sometimes the only viable option is to work for change. Always be aware of the struggle you take on. It is usually easier to correct a situation than to convince your opponent he or she is wrong. It is easier to get forgiveness than permission. Go for the simplest task that gets the job done. For example, your office routine might be very inefficient and next to impossible to accomplish in a day’s time. Perhaps you see where improvements can be made, but your immediate boss disagrees with you or thwarts your efforts. As long as you continue to try and convince your immediate boss of the need for change, you will get nowhere. If you can easily go over his or her head to a higher boss, this could be an effective way to handle the stalemate. Seek the quickest solution to a problem if one is available. Do not get locked into long, drawn-out struggles if they are not necessary.
Ultimately, power struggles can have either beneficial or detrimental results, depending on your perspective. In the external environment, you may or may not win, assuming there can be a victor. More than likely, victory, if it comes, involves compromise for all involved. But the inner process of awakening one’s own ability to effect a creative change in the environment is usually beneficial. You can make a difference. The creative potential associated with Pluto comes from a penetrating insight into the hidden worlds of the unconscious and an understanding of the Universal laws of Karma. Powerful insights should spring spontaneously from the situations associated with Pluto’s placement in the solar return chart. Suddenly you can become aware of new forces, subtle and previously unnoticed, which seem to influence personal decisions and situations you are involved in. Once you have the insight, what you do with the information becomes crucial to the creative process.
The primary goal of the Plutonian process should be growth through awareness. Therefore it is essential, no matter what your focal orientation, to use information and insight gleaned from experiences to foster a new understanding of self and Universal principles. The main growth process begins and ends with the self.
THREE DIFFERENT PLUTONIAN PROCESSES
Plutonian power is associated with three different processes: keeping things the way they are, usually by resisting an internal or external force; changing the form of what already exists, i.e., transformation; or eliminating what is no longer useful or essential, a form of death. Any of these powers can be either beneficial or detrimental to the user or others involved. It is the purpose and intent of the process that is important.
The power to keep things the way they are can sometimes be an awakening to personal power. Implied here is a resistance to a force seeking change, and sometimes the intent of change is negative. The pressure can come from an external or internal source, and the changes desired may be either external or internal also. For example, if you are a recovering alcoholic facing a difficult life situation, you might feel the pressure to start drinking again. The pressure could come from your own wish to avoid major decisions, or from a person you are associating with.
In actuality the internal and external sources are really one and the same, a reflection of each other since internal needs draw external situations. In the situation given above, the individual seeks to remain a recovering alcoholic despite internal and external pressure. This is a positive goal and if attained, implies personal power. It is also beneficial to remain the same when others seek to control your actions and thwart free will. Pluto represents the insight necessary to perceive manipulative efforts as they arise and avoid ploys whenever possible.
In some instances, the power to remain the same can be a negative manifestation, actually causing the stagnation of growth. If you resist all new internal and external insights which would enhance your growth or cause you to make changes, little progress will result. You will stall. When your purposes are not in keeping with Universal Good or personal benefit, you are more likely to be involved in a negative use of Plutonian power.
The process of elimination can be very cleansing, even though a symbolic death is involved. If you streamline your business or office procedures, letting go of compulsive and unnecessary activities, this is a death of sorts, but much to your benefit. So is a budgetary review which eliminates the fat from your spending practices and allows you to cut back on your work schedule. In more serious circumstances, perhaps all you can do is release a situation that is detrimental to your progress. Letting go can be a positive choice, but it might also be a negative one if you cut someone out of your life without resolving or releasing the conflict. If this is true in your case, avoiding persons or situations will consume your energy. Transformation is the process whereby a situation, thing or level of consciousness is changed into a new, and hopefully higher, manifestation. Careers, marriages and self-images can all be transformed for the better. Commonly, though, we think of the transformation process in terms of psychological insight and level of consciousness. Information from subtle sources or the unconscious is gradually or suddenly made available to either the rational mind or the Higher Self, and subsequently a change occurs on the mental, emotional or spiritual level. Information that was previously unavailable becomes understandable through the process of insight, and power is released through new awareness. This can be a very enlightening and beneficial transition, but naturally it is what you do with the information that is important. If intellectual, emotional and spiritual growth are triggered by the new awareness, the process continues to be positive; however, if instead you use your newfound insight to control others or block growth, you have used your knowledge in a negative way.
Misuse of the Plutonian process creates an inability to continue on the life path until issues are resolved and lessons are learned. Stagnation occurs as the individual fails to progress to the next level of comprehension or misinterprets the task at hand. Power struggles can be the cause of such stagnation, and should be taken on only after careful consideration of the issues and implications. Power struggles are expensive in terms of time and energy. Some are essential to growth, others are self-inflicted. Know the source. Ideally, if you avoid a conflict in Pluto’s solar return house placement, you should have more resources available for higher awareness. Conflicts consume energy and sap the strength necessary for the ascent. Without opposition, one can move quickly when concentrating on insight and awareness. Barriers can be torn down and the connections among all things become apparent.
But a world without struggle is the ideal, and not necessarily the reality. Your situation may require that growth be attained through struggle. The resistance may stimulate your awareness and creativity. Real progress might only occur after the resolution of conflict or during respites in the battle. However, within a long-lasting, stalemated struggle, one is more likely to get caught in a circular argument going nowhere. Nonproductive battles can be avoided by those who work toward increased awareness.
PLUTO in the 12TH HOUSE in 12th
The 12th house rules things that are hidden, behind-the-scenes, and/or not easily recognized. When Pluto, the planet associated with unconscious and hidden forces, is in the 12th house, the interpretation is particularly subtle, but also especially important. What is happening behind-the-scenes may be more important to growth in consciousness than what is happening in the public environment. Use this time for backroom negotiations if it is to your advantage not to be very public about what you are doing. For example, you might be designing and testing a new product, or having a love affair. The power of this placement lies in what you know, but do not say or make others aware of. A son comforted his father during his illness with massage and holistic techniques. Because the father had strong religious beliefs, the son never talked about what he was doing or the holistic concepts behind the techniques. It was enough to comfort his father. This can be a time to deal with behind-the-scenes issues in a quiet, rather than confrontational, manner.
A more negative interpretation might emphasize manipulation and underhanded tactics rather than a positive use of discretion. Motivations are not necessarily noble. Undercurrents might be ignored and not discussed. Sometimes you are not aware of the problem yourself. If Pluto doesn’t cross the Ascendant by transit into the 1st house during the year, a hidden focus will remain; however, as Pluto crosses over, the personal urge will be to reveal or deal with what was previously hidden.
The same is true with major changes that are waiting in the wings. When Pluto is in the 12th, but close to the Ascendant, there is usually a change of significant magnitude being formulated. It is more likely to occur during the year if Pluto actually crosses. If Pluto comes close, but never actually transits into the 1st house, look in the following solar return chart for an indication of change. You may not quite make the change, or only partially make the change this year.
Psychological complexes are very important with this placement, but they are also less controllable and more difficult to recognize. You may try to ignore your own issues. It is easy to point the finger at someone else and declare that the other person has the problem without being aware of how you, yourself, contribute to their difficulties with your own psychological idiosyncrasies. Compulsive tendencies are common. For example, you may feel compulsively drawn to a new love relationship. There is an interplay here between the compulsion, your urge to control the unconscious, and the frank realization that this is hard to do. The past comes back to haunt you, and present situations may be of a deja vu nature, making control especially difficult. If Pluto stays in the 12th, you are less likely to confront your own psychological complexes; however, if it crosses, you should feel the need to do so.
The higher concepts associated with Pluto, or any planet for that matter, are not always readily understandable to the individual. There are levels and degrees for all interpretations. You must work for the higher manifestation and there is a price to pay. You cannot be focused on personal power or gain and be in touch with Universal consciousness. Personal motives and true spirituality are the antithesis of one another, like oil and water. The oil (personal gain) covers the water (Universal consciousness) so that it cannot reach the surface and is drowned out by the oil. If you try to reach down for the water, your finger will come up greasy and barely wet. Personal motives must be put aside to truly understand the Plutonian process and work with it in its purest form. The point of focus for Pluto in the 12th is the ability to draw Universal power through the unconscious mind. The free-association and visualization capabilities of the unconscious are the perfect vehicle to enlightenment and growth. Those who are pure of heart and mind and soul become universal receptors, receiving information that needs to be on the earth plane. For this, there is no need for compensation or glory; it is enough to know.

Child Astrology Report
An Astrological Child Profile for Michael Jackson
Childhood is a time filled with promise. A new life, fresh beginnings, and for parents and teachers — it’s the ultimate challenge. How many times have parents wondered why kids did not come with instruction manuals?! There’s a secret: they do!
Each person is born at a special time, on a certain day and place. Astrologers use this information to chart the positions of the planets relative to the date, time and place of birth. This chart, or horoscope, provides an invaluable and exceptional view of the potentials, drives and needs for Michael. This is the “cosmic guidebook” for each individual! The patterns of the planets, Sun and Moon are unique and notable for a developing child, since in childhood these pictures are seen in a different light. Children are changing rapidly, and, in the process of becoming themselves, need special love and guidance. Developmental Astrology incorporates the basic concepts of astrology within the framework of the early years of life.
This astrological report can be used as a guidepost, and provides a few hints and insights into the unique qualities of this child. Please remember that everyone — including a child — has free will. So while an astrological report can give you some valuable information, it does not indicate a fixed set of limited options. Of course environment also has its influence, but by understanding the significant drives and needs represented by Michael’s chart, you can better appreciate his uniqueness, and, hopefully, guide him to fulfill his potentials in the healthiest possible way!
1. Basic Underlying Personality Traits
There are several layers to an astrological chart, just as there are layers to the personality. In astrology, the building blocks of the chart are the planets, signs and houses of the chart. You’ll see these terms scattered throughout this report. In a nutshell, the planets (plus the Sun and Moon) represent specific energies and drives. These drives each have a different purpose in the developing personality. The twelve signs of the zodiac represent qualities, characteristics and traits. The houses (the twelve divisions of the chart wheel or circle) symbolize the facets of a person’s life. In the drama of life, the planets represent the actors, the signs show the roles the actors play, their costumes and props, and the houses illustrate the setting and scene of the play.
Using the building blocks of the zodiac signs, there’s yet another layer. Each sign falls into categories called elements and modes. There are four elements — fire, earth, air and water; and there are three modes (or action models) — cardinal, fixed and mutable. There’s a way to distill the chart into its dominant element and mode of expression, and this leading denominator gives a powerful clue to the strongest underlying personality traits.
In Michael’s chart, there is an outstanding quality of Fire. Having a powerful influence of fiery energy, Michael is likely to be highly energetic. He needs plenty of room and ample opportunities to assert himself. Sports may be a strong interest, but, at the least, staying active is important. Encourage Michael to funnel these active needs by providing plenty of options, from early sports, like gymnastics or dance classes to recreational activities that involve physical assertion. Babies with strong fire can be irritable if they are not given ample opportunities to get rid of physical stress (yes, babies experience stress, too!). Basically, Michael loves play, and fiery temperament babies and young children need plenty of active time with Mom and Dad. Even when he grows up, play will be important, and he will be happiest when anything feels more like play than work! There can also be selfishness with the fiery quality. One thing to keep in mind with Michael is the fact that you must tend a fire: either to keep it burning or to keep it from blazing out of control.
Lacking or little Air can indicate problems with objectivity and can show a potential for difficulty with communication and relating, in general. Make a special effort to engage Michael in conversation, to read together, and tell stories. Applaud his development of tolerance for the differences between people. Michael might also benefit from the simple exercise of keeping a daily diary.
There are three modes in astrology. These determine how a particular sign manifests its energy. These qualities — known as cardinal, fixed and mutable — have special meanings in astrology. Each sign or the zodiac correlates with one of three modes of action.
Michael is mostly Mutable. That means he is flexible and able to adapt easily. Developing objectivity and cooperation is important, but making final decisions or choosing sides can be really difficult. That “fence-sitting” can be just as torturous for him as it is for other people! Praise Michael for his versatility and teamwork, but watch for signals that indicate he is becoming manipulative or has fallen victim to exploitation by others.
In summary, if an element or mode is low or lacking, there’s no reason to be highly concerned, but you can find creative ways to help Michael compensate. Focusing on what the lack of any mode or element might mean for the child can prove beneficial, although this should not be interpreted as an actual “personality deficiency.” Rather, understand that this could indicate either a tendency to overcompensate or to seek what is lacking in some way. As your child matures, you might discover that he is drawn to others who seem to possess the expressions of a quality that seems to be lacking in his own chart.
Moon Sign and Early Personality Development
Although most people are familiar with the concept of the Sun sign, a child expresses the qualities of the Moon sign more than the Sun sign during the earliest years. That’s because the Moon tells the story of feelings and pure emotion. So, you might see more qualities that relate to this factor in Michael’s chart during early childhood. Expressing the Sun requires more self-awareness, and that develops later!
Keep in mind that Michael is NOT a blank slate! These drives and expressions can be nourished and supported by understanding family and teachers, helping Michael make the most of these “ingredients” in his developing personality!
Michael may seem to be quite peaceful, since he has the Moon in Pisces. However, do not interpret “quiet” to mean “secure.” (It could be that game: “if I close my eyes and can’t see trouble, then trouble can’t see me either,” concept at work!) Michael can be highly sensitive emotionally and can be easily upset if circumstances are too disruptive or unsettling. As a young child, saying good-by to Mommy can be frightening and may be accompanied by great wailing. Yet Michael can also become attached to the baby-sitter! Watch for drama.
The way Michael might like to be perceived, what he needs to feel motivated toward achievement and what makes him feel significant and special in the world shines through his Sun. While the full expression of Michael’s ego takes quite some time to develop, certain qualities will definitely be apparent, even early on. However, this aspect of the personality will be more apparent after the earliest years.
Michael’s Virgo Sun brings out a studious quality — even in infancy. While a young Michael can be talkative, you may also see evidence that he seems to be watching everything very carefully — and he is doing just that! Michael can be a keen observer, and learns by watching every detail. You may assume that with all this attention to detail that this Virgo child will be neat, but it’s best to avoid jumping to conclusions. While there are definite preferences for cleanliness and for things to be in their proper places, neatness is something that may have to be learned. But be warned: as a baby, Virgo is not likely to tolerate physical discomfort. Some of that fussiness can be due to irritation from a tag in the back of baby’s shirt. (You may think I exaggerate, but trust me on this one!) Michael will appreciate parents and teachers who enjoy guiding a developing intellect, and this young Virgo may like school for learning itself. Yet it is crucial that Michael be given plenty of outside interests and encouraged to develop hobbies and skills. Hands-on exposure to learning is best, and dealing with nature “up close and personal” is right up Michael’s preferential alley. He may enjoy small toys, miniatures, or toys that can be carried. As a preteen, Michael may also have an interest in health and nutrition, which is uncommon for children of this age group. Opportunities to lend a helping hand will shape what is sometimes unsurpassed about Michael: a desire to make things better!
Another prevailing quality that’s likely to emerge in Michael’s early years in shown by the sign on his Ascendant, or Rising Sign. In childhood, the Ascendant and the 1st House signify Michael’s physical appearance and how other people view him. After all, most of us have our self-image shaped by what other people tell us about ourselves. Most important, the Ascendant (ASC) represents Michael’s basic attitudes and himself, and how he presents himself to the world. The significance of environmental conditioning in Michael’s developing personality is shown by the Ascendant.
With Aries Rising, Michael may exhibit great independence and can be quite strong-minded. This child is right at home being a kid (sometimes for decades!). The desire to take on challenges and participate in sports can be an earmark of Michael’s personality. Grandma and Grandpa may be favorite playmates.
1. Nurturing Intellectual and Physical Health and Development
Every parent watches for the signals that indicate a child’s intellectual and physical progress. From baby’s first words to performance in school, development is noted and records are kept. Providing the stimulus that will strengthen mental and physical development is up to parents, teachers and society. Of course, ultimately, a child will master the experience of learning!
There are many factors involved in intellect — the ability to conceptualize, the communication of concepts and thoughts, memory, creative ideas, the application of rational thought, judicial thinking, decision-making, speculative thought and more. In order to be whole, the child must achieve a balance between the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual parts of the Self; only then can the power of the intellect be used to its utmost. Otherwise, the mental capacities are likely to be overemphasized or misdirected in order to compensate for under development in some other area.
One important factor in a developing intellect is the nature of the thought patterns themselves. Here, the Moon plays yet another role beyond that of emotional storage house. Through the Moon, a child’s unique experiences are stored in the vaults of the subconscious mind. However, the Moon also shows the basic manner in which a child absorbs information.
Michael’s Moon is in a water sign, indicating a strongly impressionable consciousness and a tendency to have a “photographic” mind. Imaginative and creative concepts are most enjoyable, and artistic expression may be easier than pure verbal expression (except for acting!).
In addition, since the Moon represents the basic thought patterns, the Moon’s speed (or rate of travel) fundamentally affects a child’s approach to learning. The Moon moves at variable speeds in her rotation around the Earth.
Michael’s Moon was moving at a moderate pace at the time he was born. This can indicate a strong need to observe a situation before making a change, and suggests a reluctance when facing unfamiliar ideas or situations. In learning, a careful, structured circumstance can create the safety zone that allows Michael to move through education with greater confidence. Following cautious observation and consideration, new situations are then less threatening. After that, Michael may do just fine with learning, but if forced to move too quickly may lose confidence. Retaining ideas can be a plus for this gently paced Moon.
As a small baby Michael began to explore and learn about his personal environment through the five senses, and these are represented by the energy of Mercury. Over time, the senses are used in a more refined manner, and as the mind gains the ability to integrate more and more information, learning increases. Mercury shows how Michael communicates those thought patterns — how concepts are framed and also how they are expressed through communication. The years of Mercury’s heightened developmental cycle are from age seven to thirteen, when the connections between a child and his world are powerfully shaped. Language is mastered; communication skills are refined. It is during these years, that Michael will project the qualities of Mercurial energy more strongly.
With Mercury in Leo, Michael wants to speak with authority and presence, and prefer discussing something he already knows about. He can become easily attached to concepts and ideas, and may be difficult to persuade once he has made up his mind! Leo Mercury identifies thoughts and concepts with “self” and explores using ideas like “this is small like my toes.” Public speaking can be an interest during secondary education years.
For Michael, Mercury in square aspect to Mars promotes tremendous mental activity bordering on the hyperactive. Sitting still and focusing for long periods can be frustrating. It’s important to allow Michael to take a few breaks when studying, as long as he returns to the material after a set period of time. Assuring that Michael has adequate time for exercise and physical activity can also be helpful and may actually aid in concentration during the day.
The influence of Mercury in sextile aspect to Jupiter increases confidence in learning abilities and may indicate that Michael can grasp new subject material quite readily. However, there can be a lax attitude toward study, since he may not be interested in exerting a lot of effort when confronting new or challenging material. Here, the typical model is the overconfident underachiever — the child who assumes that she or he knows enough and therefore does not make sufficient effort. If mastering certain material comes easily, then excellence may follow. Applied effort will require careful guidance, and establishing good study habits can add just the right ingredients to allow Michael to make the best use of his intellectual abilities. These two energy connections can be indicators of a child who “talks a blue streak.” Learning to still the mind and appreciate quiet can be a challenge.
Michael has Mercury in conjunction to Pluto, and this can add tremendous potential for developing in-depth thinking and persistent mental energy. He will be the one to turn over the rock to see what’s underneath, instead of just walking around or over it! The sciences can be fascinating, and an interest in investigating causes can be present even in toddler years. Parents and teachers should be prepared for the questions which may be difficult or uncomfortable to answer, and when he wants to know something, there’s little that can be done to dissuade him. Compulsiveness can be a problem if carried too far, and, if anything, Michael may need to learn when to give something a rest. It’s also important to give him permission to hold secrets or to continue thinking through something when he has any uncertainty, since is he feels rushed or pressured, there will be a tendency to withhold simply out of stubbornness.
Mercury in the 5th House indicates that Michael needs to make a game of learning. There can even be strong dramatic expression, and he will enjoy play-acting. Get ready for the backyard circus! Michael can be very witty, and may also have an interest in being the center of attention, but only when his confidence is high. While home schooling could be a reasonable option, Michael will want the company of others when expressing his particular talents. For this reason, if home schooling is the parent’s choice, it’s crucial to enroll Michael in art, music or dance classes to further these particular abilities.
Jupiter and Learning
Another factor involved in Michael’s learning styles and needs is symbolized by Jupiter. These qualities are initially experienced through the encouragement of teachers and guides, but ultimately, Jupiter shows how Michael will express confidence and what types of stimulation will build his learning skills.
With Jupiter in Libra, Michael loves the social aspect of school, and later on may be drawn to subjects like law, the arts and literature. His sense of justice can be strongly developed. Debate, public speaking, and journalism can be enjoyable.
Encouragement and testing are two different things. Small children do not like to be tested — life is enough of a test for them! They do enjoy learning, but need to be encouraged to learn at their own pace. Finding that pace is one of the primary tasks of parents and teachers. Watch for signs that tell you when Michael is comfortable with a situation, and ready to push beyond it. Then, offer stimulation of that expression by setting fresh goals and opportunities to learn and develop the mind.
Finding Fun and Encouraging Physical Development
There are many factors that indicate particular needs in regard to physical health. However, I feel that specific strengths and weaknesses and their care are best dealt with in greater depth using refined astrological techniques beyond the scope of this reports. But one feature of childhood we can explore is where to find play and recreational activities that might be most comfortable and enjoyable for Michael. The planet Mars represents physical energy — it’s the fuel that is needed to keep the physical engine running! Mars’ sign and house placement gives good clues about a child’s preferences for play and activity, including sports and approach to fitness.
Michael’s favorite forms of recreation and sports can include golf, weightlifting, tai chi, ballroom dancing, discus throwing, pummel horse (gymnastics), football (especially defense positions), table tennis, distance running, and snorkeling.
With Mars in the 1st House, Michael will prefer to stay physically active. As a baby, he may have trouble getting to sleep unless he has had sufficient physical activity to “burn off” any excess energy. Try infant massage to help relax tight muscles. Michael may be interested in sports, dance or other activities which require endurance and strength. If there are difficult aspects to Mars from other planets, Michael can be accident-prone.
The connection from Mars to Saturn indicates a potential for a low level of physical energy. Because of this, Michael needs to be encouraged to devote some time to physical activity in order to raise energy levels. If there is a defeatist attitude, help him learn the importance of overcoming or meeting challenges. Be sure to celebrate accomplishments with him. Michael may also go the other way and decide to overcompensate and train until he drops! There can be increased self-discipline and an ability to set limits and work or train carefully toward goals.
III. Embracing Emotional Drives and Needs
At different stages and ages Michael is developing different parts of himself. One reason childhood astrology is different from adult astrology is that a child is in the process of “becoming”. Anyone who’s been around children knows that at some stages of development a child is more susceptible or emotionally vulnerable, and that these needs and sensibilities change as a child matures. After all, a baby struggles each day to deal with a difficult-to-control body, but an elementary school age child is struggling with early social relationships. Each of the planets represents a different emotional need and expression, but some planetary symbols are more emotionally charged than others.
There are myriad possibilities, but Michael’s chart illustrates the potential emotional strengths and weaknesses, and the areas in his life where there can be greater vulnerability. It is important to explore these concepts through a lens of objectivity, since when dealing with psychological and emotional issues with our children we’re likely to run into our own issues as part of the process!
Michael’s most powerful emotional needs are symbolized by the Moon, which is the primary indicator of early psychological development. These needs remain with Michael throughout life, continually growing and evolving. The Moon symbolizes the reflective nature of humanity. It is the absorbing, subconscious mind and reflects the needs of the soul. This is the matrix from which habit patterns emerge. Moon is Mother — who provides nurturing, comfort and security. Mother is the model for a child’s developing sense of how he will nurture and care for others, and, most importantly, how Michael will nurture himself. Even as a baby, Michael has had a strong inner awareness of what is happening. As he grows, more information is absorbed and stored in Michael’s subconscious mind, and deeper awareness of his feelings also grows. The Moon also indicates basic patterns of conditioning drawn from life experiences and filtered through the qualities of the Moon.
With Moon in Pisces, Michael is very emotionally sensitive, and can easily absorb the moods of others in the environment. There is a need to blend with others and feel a bonding with the significant people in his life. Also, there’s a drive to escape from ordinary reality into a world of fantasy and imagination. A primary challenge for Michael is to integrate the inner and outer environments. The most pressing need is to feel a peaceful tranquility.
Michael needs to dream, and may spend a great deal of time developing imagination and creativity. With the Moon in the 12th House, the inner world can be just as important and “real” as the outside world. Give this child a little extra time to adapt to the world in the morning, since if Michael is rushed out of bed and into daily activities, he may be out of sorts for the remainder of the day!
Michael has a strong desire to be liked, and the Moon quincunx Venus may also stimulate a kind of emotional want list that is difficult to fulfill. Being attracted to people and situations that are not really good for or in harmony with Michael’s real needs is a good possibility. In early social development this can manifest as choosing the friends for the wrong reasons and then complaining that he does not fit in. He may also feel that Mother is inadequate in some way, and the resulting insecurity can lead to relationship problems later. The remedy to this aspect seems to center upon learning how to give love without the expectation that it has to be returned. Ultimately, it will be, but not always in the manner which is most anticipated.
With the Moon and Saturn in square aspect, it can be difficult for Michael to accept emotional support. Early changes, such as alterations in family dynamics or moves, can have a deep impact on his sense of security. For this reason, parents aware of this energy connection in Michael’s chart may need to go the extra mile to help him feel safe and secure if these kinds of changes do occur. What Michael experiences at a subconscious level can be difficult to ascertain, but symptoms such as emotional withdrawal or refusal of food may be indicators of needs for extra careful and loving support. Pushing Michael into new learning situations before he feels ready can have a strong effect in undermining security. For this reason, it’s important to determine why he exhibits fear or resistance and help him determine if that fear is justified. Abandonment fears may be a key issue.
With the Moon in quincunx aspect to Uranus Michael may feel that things are never quite settled. The emotional profile is that of disruption in the face of boredom; therefore, learning situations need to be consistently challenging to his unique abilities to encourage the ultimate in personal development. Unanticipated or disruptive changes in environment or family dynamics early on can leave the mark of uncertainty, even if things seem to settle afterward. Keeping commitments can be difficult unless this child learns that honoring obligations ultimately leads to greater freedom. This can be best illustrated by parents who exhibit stability in their own emotional lives and who present images of consistency to Michael while honoring their own and the child’s individuality.
The energy of the Sun is tied to the development of individuality and the sense of identity. The individuality of the Sun begins to emerge once a child has developed enough mastery over basic bodily functions so that he can start paying more attention to the outside world. The Sun is a major factor in determining, “Who am I?” This radiance of Self really becomes focused once Michael is relating to others on a more frequent basis, especially during the school years.
Michael is a Virgo, basically described in the Underlying Personality section of this report. However, there are factors that alter Michael’s expression and development of his Sun.
Since Michael’s Moon opposes the Sun (full moon), he may be overly sensitive and can display strong emotional reactions to everything that’s happening in the world around him. There can be a kind of seesaw effect, with Michael vacillating between wanting to be noticed and wanting to be nurtured. Integrating masculine and feminine aspects of the psyche can be a trial, and one part of the self can suffer in favor of the other. Strong support from Mom and Dad is important, and learning that it’s okay to be in the limelight some of the time and to withdraw part of the time can be very helpful to a sense of emotional stability.
With the Sun in sextile to Neptune, Michael may seek out peaceful people and situations, He can be happiest when surroundings and relationships seem to be “in the flow.” Creative, musical and artistic interests may abound, although he may not be especially ambitious or interested in recognition. However, when placed in circumstances that are comfortable, expressing special talents can be very rewarding. Doing things that seem to make a difference or to help others can add life-affirming messages to Michael’s existence.
Personal power is a real fascination for Michael. The influence of the Sun in conjunction to Pluto can add a captivating quality to his personality. In addition, Father may be very magnetic or influential. If he allows Michael to develop and exercise his own power during formative years, could provide exactly what is needed to endorse Michael’s sense of self. If Father is absent, he is likely to exists as larger than life in Michael’s imagination. Since it can still be difficult for Michael to understand limits, he will test these limits severely during developmental crises. The charisma of his personality can also become quite strong, and if other aspects indicate healthy self-expression, he can be a truly influential leader, even during early years.
Mercury is not traditionally considered an emotional expression. However, Mercury’s role in the expression of feelings is highly important. Mercury represents the function of articulation of ideas and feelings and influences how we communicate them. After all, most of us are more comfortable if we can talk about our emotional experiences to someone special. A child needs to feel that he can talk about anything with his parents, and that it is okay to share feelings and ideas. When a child is not given opportunities to communicate his emotional needs, he can develop problems communicating almost anything else! Mercury’s function in our lives is to link internal processes to the external world, and one of the most important inner links is the experience of sharing emotion.
With Mercury and Mars in contact, Michael can be quite assertive expressing ideas. Words can be spoken before their consequences are considered. The tendency to blurt-out ideas can be useful when it’s time to speak publicly, since this connection adds courage to the need and desire to communicate. However, if Michael is angered, words are likely to be used as a weapon! During teen years, Michael might enjoy lessons in debate. Prior to that, parents and teachers will be likely to see ample evidence that this is a natural tendency. Arguments can be a form of entertainment. Encourage healthy banter.
Another feature of Michael’s emotional profile arises from the contact between Mercury and Jupiter. Expounding about anything can be pure fun, and parents and teachers need to encourage Michael to develop confidence in communication. The only problem can be that he tends to stretch the truth. The expansive quality of Jupiter adds just a few more inches to the size of that fish! This can be especially true if Michael feels that the plain reality of a situation is not enough. Learning when “embellishments” are appropriate and when they can lead to trouble will aid Michael’s sense of self-confidence.
Michael can feel a compelling sense of urgency to express thoughts, since Mercury and Pluto are connected. This is helpful when solving mysteries or doing scientific research, but it can make honest emotional communication difficult. Parents and friends may often be met with silence if Michael simply does not want to communicate. If there is communication, it can be irritatingly manipulative if he feels that keeping a secret is important in a particular situation. In fact, Michael may fear that telling it all would undermine his power in certain situations. It can be helpful if parents can work with him to gain an understanding that sharing ideas and feelings can enhance Michael’s command of a situation. But be careful, since this child may be intellectually ruthless toward the self, and can feel assaulted if the ideas or thoughts he expresses are harshly criticized. Accepting changes in attitudes and ideas is absolutely necessary for Michael, and learning to allow others to have different ideas will go a long way toward assuring that he will be much more positively influential as an adult.
Self-esteem is another part of Michael’s psychological make-up. Venus describes the needs for love and value systems, along with self-worth. Artistic expression can be part of this emotional outlet, and this is Venus in action. Selfish behavior can be Venusian, too, and most small children show Venus through their particular expression of selfishness and their ultimate struggle to allow Venus to evolve as they develop the capacity to learn to share. You’ll see Venus expressing in a more outgoing manner after about age four, when Michael may finally want to give something to another person. But the full involvement of Venusian development is during the teen years, when “falling in love” becomes a reality. But, regardless of Michael’s age, he needs to feel love from others to encourage growth on every level, including the growth of self-esteem.
With Venus in Leo, Michael enjoys being the entertainer and being entertained. He is looking for a great time, and can radiate the warmth and enthusiasm that will attract some spectacular experiences. Expressing affection through hugs, laughter and grand gestures seems to develop in early childhood years.
Michael’s self-esteem is bolstered by a supportive connection between Venus and Saturn. Realistic evaluations and choices may be easy to make, especially if parents model responsibility for their choices and values. Michael can be comfortable expressing tender emotions, and enjoys reaching out to show affection to others. Social situations may be appealing, and interacting with others is not likely to feel threatening, even during teen years. Like all children, Michael needs positive affirmation of his self-worth. However, there can be a quiet sense of personal security present which draws others to him.
The desire and ability to include a wide range of friends in Michael’s life arises from a connection between Venus and Uranus. His show of love is definitely an expression of and need for unconditional acceptance. There can be a powerful urge for free emotional expression, since spontaneous emotion is a definite reality. Michael may be the champion for the underdog. So, if you’re wondering why Michael brings home the weirdest kids in the school — it’s because he can relate to them!
Michael may enjoy group associations, team activities, and things that include others. However, there is also a need to stand out in the crowd. Michael may also be the one who begins a new fashion revolution or sets trends. The need is to be different, and to let others know that being different is fantastic!
Michael’s Mars shows when he expresses anger and personal strength. As Michael grows up, the way he shows personal assertiveness will be developed.
Michael’s Mars in Taurus shows as a mellowing influence, which can be helpful during the more tumultuous years of childhood. However, the stubborn nature of Taurus can become a strong feature of Michael’s personality. Learning to cooperate with others is important, and team sports could be a good outlet for this type of learning experience. Sharing is not easy to learn during the early years (2-5) when “things” are considered part of the self. Releasing anger can be difficult too, and strong jealousy can arise if Michael feels displaced.
Michael can feel terribly uncomfortable expressing anger, since the frustrating connection between Mars and Saturn can indicate a restriction of anger, causing Michael to feel trapped inside his anger. This inhibited energy may then be released in cruel ways. This can result in physical and emotional difficulty. If parents tend to bridle Michael’s need to become self-assertive, it will tend to create anger toward the parents. This can become self-destructive and will block an easy flow of understanding between parent and child. While Michael does feel a need to be in control, experiencing a positive model of control will be healthier than simply being told “no.”
During preteen and teen years, sexual assertiveness may be very uncomfortable for Michael to develop, since there is frequently a restrictive attitude toward sexual expression. Healthy caution is one thing, but guilt about the feelings of sexuality can be damaging. Michael may feel that the “permission” to even have these feelings does not exist, and the frustrations can lead to violent or destructive outbursts. Teaching him that sexual feelings are a normal part of growing up will alleviate much of this turmoil. Replacing guilt with an awareness of the possible consequences of his sexual actions will give Michael a choice. The ability to make choices strengthens his sense of personal power, whereas guilt feelings will simply be frustrating.
Michael may not demonstrate the energy of Uranus until teenage years, since this quality is part of the expression of uniqueness, ingenuity, and rebellion. It’s usually outwardly expressed in teen years as part of a teen’s uprising against the status quo. Uranus spends about seven years in one sign, and is one of the planetary energies that identify qualities of a generation.
Michael was born when Uranus was in Leo (1956-1962), and is part of a generation harboring a strong desire to push the importance of individuality. The tendency toward self-indulgence can be strong, and a fascination with status symbols can drive this generation to ultimately expose the frailty of egocentric actions, but the personal expression of Uranian energy is most likely to be seen in the arena of life most influenced by this planet.
Uranus in the 5th House indicates that Michael will need to express a unique form of creativity. Unusual art forms, innovative music and inventive games will be part of Michael’s needs. Relationships with unusual people ultimately follow, especially during teen and early adult years.
Another significant, but emotionally charged, generation-oriented quality is the energy of Pluto. Pluto represents the deepest reservoirs of emotional energy, and is not a quality openly expressed in childhood. However, when a personal planet or angular point in a chart is connected to Pluto, then this profound level of emotional and transformational energy is easier to see. Pluto also represents deep-seated anxieties or fears, which are, for lack of a better description, absorbed into the psyche.
For a child, it’s virtually impossible to direct an awareness of this energy, since the personal self must be well developed before knowledge of this esoteric plane of consciousness awakens. In fact, most adults have difficulty with this part of the self! Although the energy of Pluto may be felt during the childhood years, it is not usually a conscious expression at this time.
Pluto moves very slowly through the zodiac, and its sign tells more about the transformational influence Pluto will have on that particular generation than it will about the changes in the individual.
Michael was born at a time when Pluto was in Virgo (1957-1971), and is part of a generation saddled with the task of repairing the trauma created by previous generations. Whether trauma to the Earth or the individual, there is a strong drive to see the whole picture. Ranging from integrating holistic and alternative health techniques to simplifying lifestyles, this generation will also have to deal with the questions of genetic engineering.
As with the other transpersonal planets, the House position of Pluto is the area of life where you help Michael get in touch with a need for healing and transformational change.
With Pluto in the 6th House, Michael can be suspicious about other people and their “motives.” He can also be unusually fearful of falling ill or may be insecure around doctors. Sometimes this can manifest as a fear of dogs, cats, or other animals — especially if Michael has been in an unsupported situation when an animal scratched or bit him. However, there can be an exceptional relationship with pets if handled in the right manner.
You’ve discovered that the Ascendant is like the window-dressing or mask of the personality, but connections from planets to the Ascendant can also alter how Michael expresses his emotional self.
Venus in a positive connection to the Ascendant can bring physical beauty. This planet may create a need within Michael to present the most beautiful image possible. This is a two-edged sword, because he may feel a need to be “perfectly” beautiful. If his beauty does not meet these exacting standards, Michael could feel insecure. Plus, there can be a tendency to overvalue physical beauty. Help Michael embrace the feeling that beauty radiates from within. This Venusian connection is actually more about projecting a loving, graceful quality.
Since Saturn is strongly connected to the Ascendant, Michael can sometimes seem too serious. He may seem to be more responsible and mature than his years might indicate. However, this does not mean that he will enjoy being saddled with too much responsibility, too soon. There’s an ability to grasp the importance of taking responsibility, and he might also be able to understand the need for rules and limitations.
Michael needs to be different, since Uranus in a supportive connection to the Ascendant stimulates individuality and ingenuity as part of self-expression. Michael might be a trendsetter, since his mask is the desire to be unique.
Sometimes, planets appear to move backward in their orbital path from our viewpoint here on Earth. When that happens, we say a planet is retrograde.
Mercury retrogrades about three times each year. Since Mercury is retrograde in Michael’s natal chart, his reasoning and thinking processes are more sensitive. There may be more deliberation in decision-making. Parents and teachers may feel that Michael takes too long to answer questions. Extra patience on their part will encourage Michael to communicate more openly. Michael may find that it is easier to write than talk. Rather than impeding the ability to communicate, this placement often enhances the ability to express ideas through the written word. Many notable writers have been born with Mercury retrograde, including Norman Mailer, Anne Frank, Isak Dinesen, and Henry Miller. Michael needs to learn to trust his ability to express thoughts and ideas, and should be given plenty of opportunities to communicate. This chart placement often leads to some ingenious ideas and concepts. Letter writing may be a favorite pastime, and diaries can be helpful in objectifying thoughts.
1. Fostering Creativity and Spirituality
Children seem to be inherently connected to spiritual awareness and expression. Their joy in the daily discoveries of life can be infectious, and a child’s sense of wonder brings light into life. To help a child find Truth and embrace a sense of The Divine, very little encouragement is needed. But it is necessary to support this natural connection, and can make all the difference in Michael’s ability to trust himself.
One of the most significant ways to help Michael awaken and touch Spirit is to foster his creativity. It’s not necessary for every child to be a consummate artist, but each child needs room to experiment with the creative self. There are several factors in the astrological chart that support the development and expression of personal creativity.
Beyond education and development of the intellect in a more formal sense, Mercury plays an important role in self-expression. After all, this is the energy of linking ideas and concepts from the inner self to the outside world — and back again!
One of the creative influences of Mercury in Leo can be developed in the early years by encouraging artistic play with play-acting and story-telling, since using the hands for grand gestures can be great fun. Developing skills in public speaking might be enjoyable later on, since Michael will enjoy using communication as a means of holding the center of attention.
Venus, the expression of artistry, is, of course, an important part of creativity. This is the energy through which Michael experiences and expresses feelings. In many respects, while the Moon represents “feeling,” Venus represents “emotion” — which is the voice of feeling. Venus also represents beauty, a quality deep within which every child needs to feel, identify and express.
Encourage Michael to get in touch with expressions that feel good to his heart! Special talents and creative interests can include a wide range of forms of dramatic expression. Acting, circus performing, movie-making, directing, or persuasive speaking can all be outgrowths of backyard and family room events. Provide a video camera if Michael shows an interest, or suggest a family talent night where everyone does something to express silliness or creative joy. Michael may also be adept at creating games, so when he seems to make up rules, don’t be surprised. Costume design can be fun, and it might start with paper dolls, then play-acting, and by teen years be expressed with special outfits — some quite elaborate.
With Venus in the 5th House, Michael has a powerful need to dramatize his talents. Artistry needs to be fun, and should give him a chance to show off — at least a little! Play-acting can be especially enjoyable, and he might truly enjoy school or community plays and performances as a way to express himself. If music is a particular leaning, then musical performance might be the best avenue — solo or with a band or group.
Venus and Mars in square aspect illustrates that Michael can feel an inner frustration when expressing creativity. However, this aspect is not indicative of a lack of talent, but more likely a problem directing it in the best possible way. Attention to grace, style and flow will be helpful, whether Michael is singing, dancing, speaking or working in the garden. Exercises like dance, martial arts or t’ai ch’i can help him feel more connected between the emotional and physical qualities of expression. Otherwise Michael may feel like a “klutz,” with physical awkwardness leading to potentially embarrassing situations and therefore perpetuating more self-conscious behavior.
Fortunately for Michael, the connection between Venus and Saturn shows an ability to appreciate and use discipline and structure as part of creative or artistic development. Whatever his particular interest, a loving, supportive teacher or guide can be just what is needed to confer the confidence and strength while skills and techniques are learned and developed. Classical art forms might be appreciated, and there may also be a sense of structure and value which helps Michael determine when it is appropriate to perform or express creative ideas or projects. There is also a strong sense of the business end of the arts, and he may understand early that things that are done well are more worthwhile.
There’s a unique flair to Michael’s artistry. While his tastes may be a bit unusual, sometimes even strange, they’re always interesting. Plus, there will be a powerful desire to experiment with creative ideas and self-expression. It’s quite possible that there are special talents or abilities, since Venus and Uranus make a harmonious contact. Also, there may be an interest in art forms which are considered to be leading-edge. Give Michael plenty of room and opportunity to explore his artistry.
To get past purely self-centered awareness, the expansive energy of Jupiter encourages a child too reach out and expand his personal universe. Through Jupiter, Michael can begin to build a basic philosophy of life, and exercise his sense of hope and vision. The need to reach out and give is Jupiter in action, but so is enthusiasm. Most important, when Michael is in touch with Jupiter, he is inspired! Here is the desire to grow, to reach into new horizons, to feel adventure and joy. While it may take a lifetime to develop a personal philosophy or explore religious teachings, during childhood, Michael does feel wonder about universal principles, a Higher Power, and endless questions called, “Why?”
Moral questions flow through the realm of Jupiter, and learning higher principles through inspiring teachers and mentors is another outpouring of this energy. It is generally not until a child has developed some measure of cognitive skill that the awareness of Jupiter can be taught. During elementary school and preteen years, this energy begins to flourish. Jupiter is a function of the higher mind, the part of our consciousness that can connect with the Divine. The early awareness of Jupiter deals primarily with the concepts of sharing, positive thinking, enthusiasm and hope for reward.
Michael is especially responsive to a philosophy based upon sharing love and its importance in our lives. Learning the true meanings of justice and fair play can be very meaningful, and if he witnesses unfair attitudes it’s likely to prompt significant reactions on his part. Jupiter’s influence in the 7th House shows that there can be strong expectations of others, but the value of commitments and importance of promising only what is possible may be one of the more challenging aspects of this influence.
Then, there is the world of dreams and imagination. Neptune’s placement in the chart indicates the areas where a child dreams most easily. The sensitivity Neptune adds to life allows Michael to connect with the spiritual, nonphysical realm. What child is not a master at make-believe? But this energy is also an expression of Divine Compassion, and it needs special support and nourishment during childhood. Encouraging Michael to trust his dreams, while identifying the difference between the “real” and “imaginary” world can be quite a job. But it is a very important one, since walking between the inner world and the outside world requires special awareness. There is nothing inferior about imagination, nor is there anything wrong with beliefs, since there are many expressions of reality.
Another feature of this energy is the expression of charity. A child taught to give to others less fortunate is definitely a blessed child!
Because Neptune moves very slowly, it is another of the generation-focused planets. Other children Michael’s age will likely have Neptune in the same sign.
Michael was born when Neptune was in Scorpio (1957-1970), and is part of a generation focused on uncovering the mysteries of human psychology. Neptune’s expression of spirituality resonates through profound emotional issues, including a deep need to understand the ultimate challenges of life — including birth, healing and death. Human sexuality and its many forms of expression is also a significant element for this generation, and the relationship between sexuality, spirituality and creative expression is powerfully linked. In addition, this generation may feel charged with the task of erasing old prejudices.
Neptune’s placement in the chart shows the areas where a child can easily dream. This also provides indicators of the facet’s of life where Michael can feel a desire to let go or to exercise compassion toward others.
Michael will enjoy sharing imaginative ideas with others and may become a good persuasive speaker, dramatist or photographer. The placement of Neptune in the 7th House stimulates a strong ability to connect with others, and work with a team or in partnership may be an excellent outlet for creative imagination.
1. Perceptions of the Parents
Guess what? You can tell how Michael is likely to see his parents by looking at his own chart! Understanding how Michael perceives Mom and Dad can be especially helpful, since what Michael hopes to see and needs to experience from parents forms the basis of his sense of Self.
When Michael feels happy and full of joy, the world looks bright, too. But if Michael is physically or emotionally low, his behavior and responsiveness suffer. In relationships with others, children and adults alike will project their feelings and perceptions onto other people. Michael needs to experience himself through projecting his needs onto the people in his personal environment. In fact, the undeveloped Aspects of the Self are usually projected onto others as a means of “seeing” these feelings or needs manifested in some way. Projection is a key factor in human psychology.
In many instances, the other people are reasonable targets for those projections, especially if their connections are bound by emotions or other commitments. A child looks to Mother as the person who will reflect the nurturing feminine needs. Mother represents the inner feminine self for boys and girls alike. Michael may even see things in Mother that Mother does not recognize as the way she is!
Michael’s Moon sign shows how he perceives Mother. It makes no difference whether Mother sees herself in this light or not — the child holds these particular perceptions what Mother needs to be because he is projecting his own inner needs for security onto her. As Michael matures into adulthood, these perceptions determine how Michael will play the nurturing and mothering role toward others.
Through Michael’s eyes, Mother personifies the ideals of compassion. The Moon in Pisces projects a sensitivity and tolerance upon Mother. Mom may be like an angel to him, with a calming, mystical quality. Mom may also be difficult to figure out, since she does not always seem completely real to Michael.
With The Moon in a tense connection to Venus, Michael may not be entirely comfortable with Mother. Part of the problem can be the feelings that Mother is difficult to please. Remember, this is a projection by Michael, whose self-esteem needs extra support. Encourage Michael when he excels, offering appropriate praise. Just as important, be aware of how criticisms are presented, since Michael may feel them very deeply.
It’s the dynamic contact from Moon to Saturn that can illustrate a sense of separation or alienation from the mother. This frequently occurs in the charts of first children whose mothers were just learning about the responsibilities and restrictions that motherhood brings. In any case, Michael may feel that he has to grow up too soon and take on major responsibilities earlier than his peers.
It is highly important that the mother does not leave the impression that Michael must be “perfect” in order to be loved or accepted. She must allow him to have his virtues and shortcomings. It’s also possible that Michael may feel that Mother is not providing for his fundamental needs, and may seek a substitute for the nurturing quality he feels to be lacking. Michael can also perceive Mother to be tremendously judgmental, and can feel guilty if he cannot meet the high standards Mother seems to require.
Parents need to be alert to the situations that could be emotionally difficult for Michael. For example, if there is a crisis, move or other significant change that could compromise the sense of emotional security, he will need greater reassurance that everything will be okay and that he is safe. Mother may simply have to go the extra mile to reassure Michael. It’s also crucial for Mother to be aware of the manner in which she shows discipline, and to remember that if disciplinary measures are inappropriate for the situation, they will create emotional damage. Additionally, if Mother fails to take full responsibility for her own job as a parent, Michael will be likely to develop a kind of resentment which can result in emotional separation.
With Moon in dynamic contact with Uranus, Michael will definitely see Mother as unique. This uniqueness may be a plus for Michael, or he may think, “My mom is weird.” Michael may also feel that Mother is too inconsistent in providing nurturance, protection and support. One day, Mom may be balanced and approachable; the next day, she may seem to be unreachable. There may also be inconsistent messages from Mom about Michael’s independence.
Plus, Mom is viewed as being intuitive, and how the mother uses this intuitive flow will have a great effect upon Michael’s future use of his trust of intuitive perceptions. As Michael reaches school age, Mother may seem to be radically different from the other moms. If Mother has been secure in her sense of individuality, Michael will not find this to be a problem. If Mom has been bizarre in her actions and disrespectful of herself, Michael may have difficulty dealing with his feelings about her.
A key factor involved with Uranian aspects from the Moon is what Michael learns about emotional distancing. If Mom seems “out there” then Michael will develop a kind of emotional bubble that serves to maintain that distance. Eventually, this can have an effect on the way Michael relates to others, and can be indicative of a pattern in which he seeks out relationships with those who are either inappropriate in terms of fulfilling needs or unreachable themselves.
The Sun, the primary masculine energy in the chart, is also described as a person’s sense of “self”. A young child has a very limited true sense of self, and is not likely to “own” these qualities until the preteen years or later. This sense of individuality may be strongly tied to the initial relationship with Father and, later, to interactions with other significant male figures. In early childhood development, Michael’s Sun does not express fully as an individual ego. The Sun powerfully affects the child’s perceptions of Father; if the father is supportive and consistent, Michael may feel that his or her own individuality is reliable and strong. Michael’s perceptions of Father are strongly symbolized by the energy of the Sun in the astrological chart.
Michael projects the discriminating and perfectionist qualities of the Virgo Sun onto Father, who may seem to be the ultimate critic in his life. Pleasing Dad will be exceptionally important.
With the Sun in the 6th House, Michael needs to see Father as a safety net, especially in times of trouble. He may need Daddy there on trips to the doctor’s office, and when he is ill will find Daddy’s presence very comforting and necessary. Michael sees him as the person who can fix anything.
The contact between the Sun and Neptune can suggest problems in a child’s perception of Father, since Dad can be over-idealized; he may even have disappeared. Michael may see only an illusion of Father. This can produce problems in Michael’s own perception of Self later on, since the role model is viewed through rose-colored glasses. Michael may also expect the father to be rather saintly, and can be disappointed when Daddy turns out to be human! For this reason, it’s crucial that Michael has a realistic and close contact with Father. While Father’s sharing of his spirituality and creativity with Michael can be especially positive reinforcement, he also needs to show his humanity. Ultimately, it may also be helpful if Michael has a male mentor who may be easier to identify than Dad. This does not mean that another male needs to come into Michael’s life to take over the role of the father, but that this could be a very positive compliment to the child’s development. Michael needs a reason to have a male to idealize. That’s quite a tall order for Father, but many men are definitely up to the task!
Despite the fact that Dad may think he’s just a regular guy, Michael may perceive Dad as a super hero. You know the type: on the outside he looks like a regular guy, but inside he transforms into Superman. The influence of the Sun in connection with Pluto adds a perception by a child that Father as all knowing, all-powerful and omniscient. This can block Michael’s ability to assert his own personal power. After all, how could he ever match up to something like that?
It’s also possible that Michael may perceive Father as being ruthless. Sometimes these images are not even projected by the father to the child. They can come about through Michael’s fantasies and the impressions he has gleaned through observing life. It is very easy for Michael to feel that Dad does not want him to exist. Father needs to continually remind Michael that he is genuinely loved and appreciated.
If, for any reason, Michael experiences separation from Father, he may feel especially wounded. This can also lead to a tendency to project this resentment onto other men — teachers, stepfathers, or authorities — and might reinforce Michael’s sense that he is somehow unworthy. It is crucial that male Father figures understand the potentially deep impact their actions and attitudes can have upon Michael’s perceptions.
Then, there is a need for solidity, structure and safety — and most children look to parents to establish this for them. A child is not capable of understanding the ways of the world, but will learn about them eventually. Nor does a child understand the need for limits. It’s up to parents and teachers to set these limits and expose a child to the rules of life. These rules, tests and structures are identified by the energy of Saturn.
There can be a downside, since Saturn energy feels judgmental and limiting much of the time, especially in childhood. Many children are anything but delighted at the prospect of being “responsible” — that’s what adults are supposed to be, not kids!
The placement of Saturn not only symbolizes the parents, but also authority in society. Saturn does not necessarily represent one parent or another. Here is discipline, structure, and stability. This is also tradition. For the better part, what Saturn symbolizes is the story of how Michael needs to be stabilized and what he requires in terms of a sense of safety and security.
Saturn in Sagittarius insists on finding Truth, and if parents teach stilted lessons about universal principles, then Michael will be likely to lose respect for the parents once he discovers other ways of looking at life. Acceptance and integration of cultural diversity helps to stabilize his life.
Saturn in the 9th House seeks security through establishing a strong sense of moral values. If Michael learns intolerance for other belief systems from the parents, he is likely to become dogmatic in his opinions. However, the ultimate lesson here is that Michael’s spiritual connection is his responsibility, and that pure devotion to higher ideals can add deep meaning to his life.
Ultimately, as Michael moves through the various ages and stages of childhood, he will be able to incorporate all these qualities and expressions once seen through others, into himself. However, some vestiges of our childhood remain throughout a lifetime. Think of the concepts in this report as the building blocks for the person who will become Michael through the course of these early years. And enjoy every moment of your journey together!

The Relationship SUN
The relationship Sun, like the Sun in a natal chart, is the heart of the relationship and its primary drive and focus. The sign in which it falls will color the entire relationship, as many of the important events in the relationship will occur when transiting bodies are in this sign. If it is strong in its house position and supported by good aspects from other bodies, the relationship will have a solid center and will tend to sustain itself despite the buffets of adversity. If it is poorly aspected or in a difficult house position, the relationship will be easily damaged and difficult to repair as the natural cyclical transits will tend to reinforce negative qualities of the relationship rather than positive. The Sun’s primary quality is restorative drive, the general impetus toward life and its sustenance, rather than any specific traits or areas of endeavor such as are represented by the planets. Therefore its placement will tell the overall thrust and style of the relationship and how well it bears up under fire, rather than give the details of just how it will do so. A badly placed Sun can mean a relationship that is almost certain to fail, because wounds to the partnership won’t heal themselves. A very well-placed Sun can mean a relationship that sustains and resuscitates itself so well that it may even be difficult to get out of should either partner choose to do so (as might be the case if the planetary aspects were very difficult or if the two natal charts themselves were in great conflict). It is the driving engine of the relationship and everything else orbits around it and derives life from its energy.
SUN in CANCER ☉ in ♋
Relationship sun in Cancer underpins this relationship with a great deal of intensity, which can mean great heights of passion in a love relationship or great commitment and brotherhood in other kinds. It definitely takes itself very seriously and that is both its joy and its risk. If things are going well, fine; when they’re not, they can be destructive to both partners. This is a very good kind of relationship to be able to stand back from and, as it were, dip into as long as it proceeds well. If problems arise, be ready to step outside the persona of the relationship and become individuals again where reason can prevail (unless both have sun in Cancer, in which case this strategy may be impossible). This also tends to be an exclusive kind of relationship that knowingly or unknowingly emotionally shuts others out. Just remember that there is an uncompromising joy in making the two of you the entire world. When you wall others out, you wall yourself in. Just make sure each have an escape route: the safety of knowing the route is there makes your ability to enjoy the intensity of exclusivity all the greater.
The Relationship MOON
The symbolism of the relationship Moon in a relationship is that of reflection — not in the sense of intellectual deliberation or thoughtful rumination but much more literally, reflective like a mirror. Whereas the Sun represents the primal, outgoing energy in the relationship, the Moon shows how the relationship reacts to situations once they have been presented to it. When someone approaches you with an idea, do you react to it, criticize it, laugh at it or with it? Steal it? Ignore it? Expand upon it? Extending this logic, it, of course means how you feel about a situation, the process and style in which your emotions are stirred. The things to which you react include each other, so the position of the relationship Moon will be critical to the emotional well-being and functionality of the relationship, independent of your individual natures. Thus, a well-placed and well-supported relationship Moon can lend clarity and cooperation to the most confused and befuddled people who might never expect to get along; whereas an afflicted relationship Moon can throw dissension and conflict into the lives of the most well-adjusted and easy-going persons who normally get along with everybody. This is, of course, because this reflective, emotional effect is largely subconscious, and because it does not emanate from either of you in the usual way, you are unfamiliar with its style and rhythms. This accounts for a lot of the “magic” – both good and bad – that is associated with relationships. On the positive side, it can mean a relationship that seems to heal one or both of you and just makes everything go right that didn’t before. This is a marvelous feeling but one that can lead to a mistaken dependency on your partner as the source of the improvement when it is actually the relationship itself that should get the credit. On the opposite side it can lead to mutual blame for making things worse when the fault lies with neither of you but in the structure of the situation itself. The great advantage of having the details of the relationship chart available to you is that you can better differentiate the strengths and weaknesses of the situation from those, which may lie within yourselves. The former you will have to work around on the exterior, the latter you will have to work from within. In tandem with the Sun, the Moon and its position will make or break most relationships. If the Sun and Moon are well-placed and well- aspected, the relationship is anything from a good bet to a sure thing, regardless of the other positions and problems that need to be worked out. If the Sun and Moon are badly positioned or afflicted, it will be an uphill fight all the way, and one that either or both of you may choose to set aside unless you feel compelled to spend a great deal of time, energy, and emotion rising to the challenge. Life is about choices, and here especially the relationship chart can help supply the data you need to aid you in your selection.
MOON in CANCER ☽ in ♋
This relationship can become a real emotional hothouse, steamy in the best and worst of ways. It will tend, when challenged, to fall back on itself and the two of you will be your greatest emotional resource, often to the exclusion of others. This will make for a comfortable nest to which you can retreat and live in your own special world together, a world of great commitment and emotional intensity. For this same reason, you may find the intrusion of the external world an invasion and to the extent either of you reaches out for other relationships it can engender jealousy or insecurity on the part of the other. If there is a lesson to be learned, it is to allow individual freedom outside of the relationship while maintaining the especially heightened level of feelings, which you bring to each other. Tolerance mixed with passion, understanding blended with commitment, will make this combination a winning one and a powerful unified force in dealing with the world around you. Externally, over-sensitivity comes easily, so cultivate a thick skin when dealing with others, as they don’t mean things quite as personally as you may take them. Open as many channels of communication as possible so that emotional pressure can find release when you need it.
The Relationship MERCURY
Mercury in the relationship chart represents the mutual meeting of minds, or lack of it, between you. It also represents your ability to communicate to others as a couple or as individuals. In the first instance, in which the position symbolizes the shore between two intellects, it will be important to know what kind of communication goes on: by style, substance, and action (sign, house, and aspect). A well-placed Mercury will mean that you can put clearly into words what you mean to say to each other, and such a position can be of great help in alleviating emotional problems that may not easily come to the surface. If you can both say how you feel, you’ve gone a long way towards being able to change. On the other hand, a badly placed Mercury can have the opposite effect, stirring up emotional problems where there were none by simply getting communications wires crossed. In a professional relationship this can mean all sorts of pointless starts and stops because of faulty information, particularly in an increasingly information-oriented society. The position of Mercury therefore becomes increasingly critical in relationships in general. Its placement also describes how you communicate as a duo with the public at large, so herein lies further opportunities for good or ill. Well-placed, it will mean that you may be able to get yourself across to the world at large through the relationship rather than on your own. Where there are difficulties here, it may be better to speak your own piece and not let the relationship represent you. Nevertheless, knowing the situation in advance can help enormously, as you won’t have to learn the communications value of the relationship by trial and error or blame each other for problems that arise from what is essentially a third party with its own horoscope, the relationship itself. Rather, you can take advantage of the best that it offers and avoid what looks like trouble by one or both of you pulling back on your own to handle problems the relationship does not cope with well.
MERCURY in LEO ☿ in ♌
You may find that spacious and optimistic thinking is a notable trait of this relationship, a kind of infectious cheer that can carry others along with you. That’s a pretty good characteristic, but you should be careful that your optimism is justified, particularly if you intend to bank on it later. That’s even more important if you’re going to be influencing others in the same direction. Whatever the situation, you will likely be able to put an upward-looking spin on your view of things, perhaps more so than you might do individually, so the relationship can make you feel up when you are down and let you share the brighter side of things, even when you think there isn’t one. The only things you are likely to neglect in your communications skills are the nitty-gritty details; the little touches that make the deal airtight or give a conversation a specific personal touch. You may have to make a special effort to do that individually, should the details get lost in the shuffle when you are together with your sights set on broader, more general goals. Similarly, it can be easy to confuse others’ goals and intentions with your own and thus make incorrect assumptions about what they are really trying to say. Make the effort to stand back and look at what you are saying as someone else would; this can be easily solved without losing the intellectual energy and drive of the relationship.
The Relationship VENUS
The planet Venus represents desire, attraction, what you physically and emotionally desire and as a relationship position describes where your desires meet and either blend or conflict, or a bit of both. This is too often applied to love interests alone, although it covers them as well. It means everything you desire – money, position, beautiful things, property, friends, lovers, anything that you want and believe if you get it, will make you happy. It also has another side which is your ability to appear to provide just such fulfillment for others, thus symbolizing personal charm, beauty, attractiveness, wealth, and so on. It’s the two-way wish fulfillment point where dreams are born. When this is viewed between two people as a relationship point, it means how and whether you make each other’s dreams, on a very basic level, come true. If badly placed, it can mean continual desire and constant disappointment. If strong by position, it will be a buttress to the relationship, as you know you will always get what you want when you come back to it. It is, of course, critical in telling how a sexual relationship will unfold and can spell repeated ecstasy or constant frustration, especially taken in tandem with relationship Mars. It also represents how well the relationship as a whole will be able to realize its goals and desires, which will of course be directly connected with its ability to make itself desirable, both of which are described by this relationship point. Thus, an afflicted relationship Venus is a double indemnity, because it usually prevents either of you from getting what you want out of each other, and it means the relationship will not get what it wants, either. Conversely, a well-aspected relationship Venus is like a gift from above, as it means mutual success and satisfaction all around. In judging the overall success of a relationship, this is indeed a very important position.
VENUS in GEMINI ♀ in ♊
A wide variety of tastes will likely mark this relationship, which means you will always find something to satisfy whatever the situation. Moreover, given a multiplicity of choices, it may be difficult to settle on just what it is you want or like best. When it becomes difficult to follow through or when you run out of interest, set one or the other of you on the task, and let that one pursue it until your joint interest and commitment returns. From an exterior point of view, you may find that you have a charming ability to please everyone, mainly because of your tastes and your willingness to accommodate others and still take real pleasure in what is being achieved. If there is any potential problem in this, it comes from spreading yourself too thinly and trying to please too many at once without being able to spend enough time with each. The same goes for your ability to fully pull within your grasp that which you would like to possess — be careful nothing slips between your fingers while you are distracted by another. The ability to successfully pursue multiple desires is entirely within your potential, but it will largely depend on your ability to split your concentration, which can be helped by sharing responsibilities between the two of you.
The Relationship MARS
Mars represents physical and emotional energy, and as such the ability and inclination to get things done, to fulfill desire by taking action. By itself it is really just raw energy, and its placement, particularly in relation to the other bodies in the chart, describes where and how well this energy will be directed. As a relationship point, it describes how your two energy directions mesh and whether they will reinforce each other or simply get in each other’s way. It will tell whether sparks will fly, igniting random and destructive brush fires, or whether a controlled fire will blossom that will become the engine to power and fulfill your desires under your own direction. Its relationship to Venus, particularly in sexual relationships, is critical, as it will describe whether it will fulfill or deny your sexual needs. In both male and female it describes sexual drive as well as assertiveness and ultimately, aggression. Thus, a well positioned relationship Mars allows the two of you to unite your energies naturally toward whatever goal you choose, while a difficult placing will put your efforts constantly at odds, wasting your efforts in mutual conflict or confusion when you should be utilizing them otherwise. As with Venus, this can be the greatest natural blessing or a terrible stumbling block. A strong relationship Mars can energize and focus two people who are otherwise at sixes and sevens with themselves, and a troublesome one can throw the most balanced performers into disarray as they wonder what hit them to throw them so off balance. Thus, it will be wise to understand this position well so as to know whether to ride it or back off. It will also portray the power potential of the relationship as it exists in the outside world. A strong Mars has the energy to carry others along with it, whereas a disabled one will tend to break down already functioning operations in the relationships’ social surroundings. None of this suggests that a difficult Mars means you should forget about the relationship, however, as if one of you is simply put in charge in certain areas, mutually compartmentalizing the energy flow; the ill effect can be largely disenabled, albeit at the price of local inequality. It is something to be considered with care and attention, however, as herein lies much of your self-empowerment and control over your lives.
MARS in CANCER ♂ in ♋
You may find that it is easier for this relationship to take care of business on its own with a minimum of involvement of others. Privacy, and actions taken in private, will have a high priority to you and you will accomplish more, internally and externally, than that which you are forced to perform under public scrutiny or in conjunction with others. As partners you will have an unusual degree of dependence upon each other. No one is an island, however, and you may find that reaching out to others for help when problems arise may go a long way to taking some of the pressure off the relationship, which can build up like an overheated boiler at times. Nevertheless, when you do succeed in fulfilling your aims, you will have the pride and self-assurance that the credit goes entirely to yourselves. Just don’t let the intensity that this is likely to give the relationship become all-consuming and thus throw you off the mark. Let off a little steam on less-serious matters and your aim and mutual enjoyment will be enhanced and your energy renewed accordingly.
The Relationship JUPITER
Jupiter in any chart represents the capacity for growth and expansion in relation to whatever it is connected. It means bigger, better, newer, faster, higher, and more developed. It is usually looked at only in the positive aspect, but it also has the potential to get out of hand if not checked and directed. The relationship chart is the area that your mutual aspiration and inventiveness meet, a point where creativity is strong but which may or may not bring its potentials to fruition, depending upon its placement and how you handle it. Well-aspected it allows you to view realistically and act effectively upon what you determine together to make the relationship a spawning ground of limitless opportunity, more than either of you could manage separately. Debilitated, it can mean overblown expectations that come to nothing, biting off more than you can chew, situations that spiral out of control, and projects that perish under their own weight. But these ills aside, Jupiter usually does more good than harm and under most conditions it is the place to look for blessings. A solid relationship Jupiter will mean that you can always look to the relationship to pull each of you up another step when you are stagnating and it will mean that others can look to the two of you for inspiration and new ideas. Where it is difficult, you will have to take the opportunity to restrain yourself now and again and develop only that which you think you can use at the time to avoid wasting your energies on unrealizable goals. It will show you where the big picture is and provide the kind of life overview which the relationship teaches that you might not have discovered on your own. It can be the force that carries you both away with each other and raises you to heights you didn’t know you had. Its only danger is allowing the relationship to take over you as individuals. Use it as a resource for each of you to draw on, not the other way round, and it will always pay off for you.
JUPITER in CANCER ♃ in ♋
The style in which this relationship develops and will take some special tending in order to get the most out of it. You tend to keep your new directions under wraps, sometimes even where each other are concerned, until they spring full-blown into existence. It’s rather like an egg developing, but you can’t see the embryo. It just sits there, until one day it bursts open and out staggers a new-formed chick. Nevertheless, a lot went into forming the new individual, and the wrong conditions experienced by the chick while in the egg can seriously harm its development. Although you will prefer not to give away your plans, it might be a good idea to get some outside feedback now. Then you see if it’s going as well as you think. If not, you need to rework things before it is too late and you’re already committed to a course of action. In the end it will be your feelings rather than your thoughts, which will direct the evolution of the relationship. And if it doesn’t work out; it will be feelings, which are sometimes difficult to repair, that are injured. Because you feel it all depends upon you, the pressure to get it right will be much greater than if you opened yourselves up a bit where you can share blame as well as credit. Once you decide how you want to revise and develop your situation, you will find that you have a great deal of commitment to what you are doing and will defend it like a mother defends her children. Such loving care about how the two of you grow together will do much to cement your relationship, especially if you keep channels open between you so both have plenty of input: truly a joint triumph in the end.
The Relationship SATURN
Saturn is usually considered the bugbear among planets and has an evil reputation that it only partially deserves. It is associated with restriction, contraction, dearth, debilitation, and a host of other adjectives that add up to not getting what you want. That is, however, only partly true. It might be better to say that it describes extreme delineation, concreteness, and finality — reality in the most concrete sense. Much of our lives are comprised of hopes, plans, desires, dreams, wishes, and expectation, and Saturn describes what actually becomes of them. So in such a goal-oriented, future-driven society as ours, what actually happens is all too often a disappointment, the result of failed unrealistic expectations. Thus, Saturn in the relationship chart is where you both get down to brass tacks and determine (or have determined for you) what actually is to be. If this point is well-situated, it means that you can rely on each other and the relationship as something that delivers every time. It will lend solidity to the relationship and make it something you can lean on when either of you need to be backed up. It will also make the two of you a haven for others in distress. In a difficult position, it will mean that you tend to fail each other, to bring each other down, and to sap each other’s energies physically or emotionally. In this situation it can highlight the insecurities of the relationship and mark for failure what might otherwise have succeeded. But in either situation, like any other planet, it will not touch every aspect of the relationship and so you are free to be selective if you know what areas it is either supporting or restricting. You want to know what the bottom line is everywhere, however; and that is what Saturn will tell you. But you don’t have to invest in stocks you think are going to depreciate, either. If you recognize early what the downsides and the support pillars of the relationship are, you can use one to stand on while you either avoid or make repairs upon the other at your leisure. If you do not, ignorance is the ally of the dark side and it will have much greater power to pull you in and cripple you. Find your foundation stones early, so your house will not be built upon sand; and, in time, your temple will rise to the skies.
SATURN in PISCES ♄ in ♓
This is a difficult position for Saturn, as its conservative, stability-seeking nature is literally afloat in the miasma that is the sign of Pisces. It therefore represents a physical and spiritual challenge concerning the methods you go about seeking your security together. If you look for the standard principles to lean on, ones that seem to work for everybody else, you will likely find yourself ill at ease with them and unable to make them work for you. Instead you will have to find a way of deriving your innermost stability from the results of inner growth and a faith in each other’s ability to achieve it. If you ask for imposing results all the time, you’ll seldom get them or, when you need them, they will disappear. If you cast your bread upon the waters, you will be buoyed up by hands unseen and carried on to broader vistas, like a ship caught up in a current and carried to foreign lands. This requires being willing to give up a lot of control that is taken for granted as necessary by most and can make you feel quite insecure until you get used to it. It is mainly a matter of style here, however, as the results will be the same, just not the methods you find most successful to go about getting to them.
The Relationship URANUS
Uranus is one of the three relatively recently-discovered outer planets, and all three are marked with a reality common to new experience and endeavor. They are not fully explored and thus not very much under our control. Uranus has been known the longest, (since 1786), and is a bit more familiar. It is associated with sudden events, shocks, realizations, discoveries, and other highly delineated events that sheer off quickly and completely from their previous states or surroundings. For creatures of habit, such as most of us are, this is usually upsetting and generally bad news. But it does not have to be. Your ability to use Uranus instead of letting it abuse you, is directly related to how flexible and quick on your feet you are. It also is linked to how willing you are to accept and welcome change as part of the nature of things. If you accept it grudgingly, then Uranus will always be a symbol of malice; if you welcome it with open arms, it will be a deliverance and an inspiration. In the relationship chart, Uranus is where the two of you are repeatedly forced to rise to this occasion, and its contacts will tell in what areas of life it usually manifests. Well situated, it is a mutual window onto the future, flooding you both with light and clueing you into what is coming next. In such a position, it will make the relationship an eye-opener, which you come back to time and again for more. It will also tend to put you both ahead of the game emotionally and socially placing you in a leadership position among others where future thinking is concerned. In a difficult place, it will mean that you bring to each other incidents and accidents in areas where you are the most entrenched and you force each other to come to grips with ideas with which you refuse to deal. This can be a source of great mutual blame: “You made me get into this. If it weren’t for you, this never would have happened. . . ” and so on. This is particularly the case in sexual affairs in a society that is at heart so sexually conservative (even backward) and yet ruthlessly courts danger by flaunting it everywhere as if it were an everyday affair. Perhaps the only way to deal with this planet is to expect the unexpected, thus robbing it of harm and providing it with a welcome. If you are ready to harness it – like a wild horse – you can ride it far. If you turn your back, it will surely trample you. Where this occurs in the relationship chart, keep your eyes wide open, your stance wide, and your tolerance level on maximum.
URANUS in VIRGO ♅ in ♍
You may find that the path to self-discovery and the leaps you must make when you have to rearrange your thought patterns will be quite demanding and that you will have to pay particularly close attention or you won’t get to first base. This means when there is a problem or a discontent due to some special need or viewpoint of the other, it needs to be addressed specifically and in detail, not glossed over in hopes that a quick fix will solve it or make it go away. Special care must be taken to apply maximum tolerance of each other here, as each other’s peculiarities will need to be addressed. This means finding a lot out about your partner and accepting what you find with understanding and compassion, however different that might be from your own style or expectations. In an exterior mode, don’t look for universal truths but find out what reality is in your own special cases. Most of all, don’t be annoyed if you don’t get it right the first time. Impatience, next to intolerance, can be your greatest enemy. With time, you can work out the details; and once you’ve got them down, they can take you far and serve as a special kind of bond unique to yourselves to further cement the relationship.
The Relationship NEPTUNE
The effects of Neptune, another outer planet and a recent discovery, are often largely out of our control both by our unfamiliarity with its effects and the apparent nature of the planet which represents the uncertain, dreams, illusions, ideals, mystery, and the higher unexplored (and perhaps unexplorable entirely) plane of the spiritual world. Its nature is so uncertain, it’s not even known exactly when it was discovered; various claims exist from 1810 all the way up to 1846, and we may never know for sure. It may be viewed from afar with a certain amount of analysis, however. When we find an area of mystery, it is our natural instinct to provide something to fill that void. Nature abhors a vacuum and our minds rush in to fill it with every kind of speculation and fantasy, if only to have something to act on in the area. Whatever is actually there will turn up eventually. In the meantime we provide ourselves with an image which may be close enough to the truth to better help us function or may be off in fantasyland and fail us utterly if we are unwise enough to lean on it. We know only in hindsight. Thus, in a relationship chart, this point becomes the place where dreams, fantasies, hopes and ideals meet or clash, and inspire us or drag us down in confusion and conflict. Too many wars and personal battles have been fought over it needlessly, because none of these things actually existed until later. That’s the crux of it: don’t fight over what isn’t there, at least not yet. Well placed, this planet will help you aspire to higher, more selfless goals but even they can make you take them more seriously than they are. Badly positioned, it can lead to lies, deceit, and mistrust based on mutual misreading of the unknown and the foolish action taken upon it. In the end, it is a gentle, diaphanous planet that can never be forced. Dreams and fantasies belong to each of you individually; and when they are similar enough to share, whether emotionally, sexually, spiritually, or even financially, they can be the greatest of joys. If one of you tries to enforce any of it on the other, however, everything will turn distasteful and there will be no dreams left; the mist will be blown away and only a charred landscape will remain. Where this point occurs, go gently, expect nothing, and everything will be returned to you.
NEPTUNE in SCORPIO ♆ in ♏
You will experience a certain dogged determination in making your dreams come true so there is a pretty good chance that they will. You, while keeping a fairly low profile so that others have less of a chance of interfering with your success, will tend to throw a lot of your power and ability here. As an initial strategy, this is a good one. As a lifelong approach, it can leave a lot out and cause you to miss some of your greatest potentials, so a little modification might be in order. It first might be well to consider that your aspirations and the ability to fulfill them are not wholly confined to you and your actions, either separately or together. It is the group experience of sharing your ideals that will give you the support to change and broaden them realistically and it will also give you the support to go on when your own specific expectations are not met. The good of one (yourselves) is much more dependent on the good of all. The more you confine your possibilities, the fewer results you will get. What you give away has the opportunity to come back tenfold, while what you keep for yourself stays where it is with only you to defend it. Retain your intensity, but let it circulate.
The Relationship PLUTO
Of the three outer planets, Pluto is the most recently discovered (1930) and least subject to our control. As such, it is even considered the planet of power and control, ultimately because it so controls us in our attempt to overcome it. It is, of course, appropriately named after the ancient god of death, the thing which in the last analysis we cannot control; and at the most basic instinctual level, all the control we try to exercise in life is simply a ploy to cheat death a little longer. It is called the survival instinct. The point at which Pluto occurs in the relationship chart is thus, at a deep level, where we meet in our ability to face death. But it doesn’t manifest itself that way on the surface. Instead, it shows up as the methods we use to keep control in order to avoid the certainty of personal annihilation. Well placed, it will mean a partnership that simply doesn’t worry about keeping in control of the situation, secure in the faith that things will take care of themselves and when it’s time to go, you’re in God’s hands. In a bad place or aspect, it will mean continuous attempts to gain power over each other and the environment (according to aspect, sign, and house) and a penchant for compulsive behavior that easily gets out of control. Or, rather, it was never in control to begin with. In some instances, particularly sexual, this can be heightened to mystic proportions, and though it can be playing with fire it can also be very revelatory. Where prominently placed, for well or ill, it will give the relationship an aura of inescapability and predestination, something that sweeps over you both (like sex or death) and takes you out of yourselves. Similarly, you may find the relationship itself has something of this effect on others, giving you a greater power (a power which you must be careful not to abuse) over those around you. In the end, however, it is the willingness to relinquish control as well as take it that resolves problematic issues. In the meantime, the ability to step away from the relationship and out of its sway, at least in Pluto-affected areas, can be an important safety measure.
PLUTO in VIRGO in ♍
The most fundamental issues, those that reflect your individual integrity and the survival of the relationship, tend to be quite specific and material in nature, and as such have to be handled with great care to avoid conflict of an entirely pointless nature. It is very easy to closely identify with the paraphernalia of life — possessions, status, physical territory, personal surroundings and the methods of handling them — and to defend them with a compulsive passion which they do not merit. When all is said and done, you can’t take it with you, so don’t try to defend more than you need at the moment. In good aspect this can make you both feel that you’ve got all you need, whatever that may be, and you will always have it, but when difficulties arise it can make you fight to the bitter end over issues that aren’t important and which distract from the fundamental communicating and sharing that makes up a successful relationship. As difficult as it may be to remember sometimes, home is where the heart is, not where the house is, and if you look into your hearts, you’ll find home. This is not to say that what you earn and possess is not imbued with a special value unique to yourself, especially the details of how you treat each other and your personal and physical exchange; most of these will pass while you still remain. Tend to that which endures and not what passes.
LEO ASCENDANT in ♌
You may notice that when you are together you create a larger-than-life image which at times may be difficult to live up to individually. It is as if you carry your own party around with you wherever you go and fire up those around you to get things moving. Sometimes you may find it more tiring to be the party host than the party guest, and you may need some quality time individually to rest and sort things out. Nevertheless, you are gifted with an energizing facade when you are together which you both can ride to give you an extra boost of enthusiasm, and you may find others looking to you for joint leadership who weren’t so supportive of you individually. It would be easy to resent that, but that’s politics and to a certain extent you make yourselves into public figures just by the chemistry of being together. Go for the playful and fun side of it and don’t take yourselves too seriously. You’ll find that your credibility and support in your social surroundings is heightened proportionately. Pride goeth before the fall, but the jester never comes to harm, so keep it light if you want to get good results. You don’t have to seek out being the center of attention; just let your feelings radiate and the world will beat a path to your door.
URANUS in SECOND HOUSE ♅ in 2nd
It is likely that your approach to your sources of income will be unconventional or that your resources in general will be sporadic or irregular in their output. This may come from circumstances beyond your control, but more likely will be the result of approaching income production in new ways. Whatever the case, if either or both of you depend on income you produce together it will be a good idea to buffer it with a layer of savings or other independent income-producing investments to tide you over the sudden ups and downs. Where you fail to do so and this is your economic life blood, money can become a real source of argument and unrest between you. It is one thing to see things in a different light, another to suffer as a result. This may not be as easy to solve as suggested, as the problem may be a fundamental way of viewing how it all ought to be accomplished and such surface remedies could be against your principle. Nevertheless, you can see and develop possibilities for sustenance that would bypass others and thus have access to resources others do not. In addition, you will see the good and original in physical possessions that ordinarily go unused, so other people’s junk can be your gold mine.
URANUS sextile NEPTUNE ♅ ⚹ ♆
This aspect happens in the sky only twice every 172 years, and the last time it occurred was in 1966-67, which means you were both born then or equidistantly before and after it in time. Thus, it has something of a generational tinge to it. Symbolically, it means a nice balance between your ideals (Neptune) and new discoveries about how they must be implemented (Uranus). Well, consider the year. It was height of the legendary 1960’s when the post World War II “baby boomers” were coming into adulthood and idealism was in high favor. Revolutionary technology seemed to promise to make these youthful dreams a reality, and everything was very mellow for a few short years, spawning Sergeant Pepper and flower children. Alas, it was not to be, not then, not like that. Fixed in your relationship chart, it gives you the talent to make just this sort of dream come true, to evenly balance the practical with the ideal, to match the technology with the dream. This can apply to your personal emotional and sexual growth, your social progress, and even your financial possibilities. Whereas in history this aspect has passed, not to repeat until well into the 21st century, for you it will not pass and is a lifetime opportunity. Perhaps the children of the flower children can make the flower child’s dreams come true.
URANUS conjunct PLUTO ♅ ☌
This is a generational aspect and its significance is derived from the fact that you were both born in the middle 1960’s or equidistant from that era. The symbolism of that era goes a long way to describe how it will work in your situation. During that time, the principles of Uranus (truth) and Pluto (force) came together and created a movement across the world where force was adopted in the interest of gaining change and the implementation of what people believed was truth. The same issues, at a basic level, will be operative between you and getting to the truth will have a somewhat compulsive aspect in the way you approach it. The necessity to speak out about what you believe is something you must leave room for in each other and tolerance will be the order of the day if you are to get along. More important is to understand that there is tremendous motivation here to do what is right, even if it is not expressed in a recognizable way. If you think it’s not being done well or appropriately, avoid making an issue of it and consciously look for compromise because unconsciously that is the last position you will spontaneously adopt. Getting it right takes time, and what you first view as the ultimate truth can change and mellow with time, and you will need to allow yourselves the kind of space that will allow you to grow toward each other. Otherwise, you could look back later and see that you really agreed at a basic level, but didn’t give yourselves the time to realize it.
PLUTO in SECOND HOUSE in 2nd
This position can have several effects, none of them lightweight. The first can be an overriding interest in money, possessions, and the control of the physical properties around you. This can mean your relationship can be a gateway to wealth and possessions, but it can at the same time give them an inappropriate priority that eclipses the other parts of life that are, in the long run, more valuable than things you can’t take with you when you exit. As long as you own goods and don’t let goods own you, the dark side of this can be avoided. Where this is a love relationship, sex can become a compelling issue and may become the bottom line of what goes on, dominating the other forms of intellectual and emotional communication that might be developing more freely if given room to grow. Another problem that may arise is a set of values motivated by the need to control each other or your surroundings that can warp your sense of reality and your human priorities. If, however, you can take a middle path where you accept the extra power over your environment this relationship brings and let it lead you without controlling you, great good can come of what you have, not only for yourselves, but for those you can benefit by using the talents you possess. When you use your tangible power over possessions to transform the lives of yourselves and your compatriots, you will realize your rewards.
NEPTUNE in FOURTH HOUSE ♆ in 4th
Home life and the private seclusion of the two of you has special appeal, and you may indeed idolize the “perfect” safe and secure family situation. The problem will be, however, realizing that dream because no situation is really ideal and disappointment will always be sneaking in somewhere. It can be too easy to hold yourselves up to a standard of perfection which may not be feasible and wind up blaming each other or yourselves for failure which was inevitable. This is further compounded by hindsight, as you will find that by constant dissatisfaction with the present, the past will always look rosier, even though you will have had the same problems when you were living in the “good old days”. Every effort to gladly accept the situation you are in and enjoy the good parts of it while dismissing the bad will be rewarded by the realization, at least in part, of your dream family situation. This applies not just to your traditional family by blood, but to those friends and compatriots which make up the immediate intimate world around you. If you let them set their own standards and work together to achieve joint dreams as well as what you yourselves wish for, you will find that the “good old days” are right now, and made good indeed by your mutual atmosphere of tolerance and camaraderie.
NEPTUNE sextile PLUTO ♆ ⚹
This is a rare aspect, happening only twice in five hundred years. It’s most recent occurrence is happening as this is being written, beginning in the 1940’s and ending in the 1990’s, and applies to those born then or on opposite sides of it. Perhaps it is too soon to tell, but some educated speculation is worth while. Neptune is associated with aspirations and ideals, currently in conjunction with Uranus (shock, sudden change) which will also be making the sextile with Pluto (force, transformation) or close to it. It is, in short, a watershed period when a radical new arrangement of world order is being inexorably forced into being. Thus, this is a generational aspect, something you share in common with billions of others of your generation. Although in the sky it will have passed on, you will have it for life, which means it will be your inescapable task to be implementors of the new planetary culture born at this time. Therefore, where this is tied in to the rest of your chart by aspect and house, these will be the areas where you have to take your place in this order, to make your own personal contribution to what is perhaps the greatest transformation the human world has ever known. Heavy? Yes, but no different from everyone else your age. Do it well, knowing that you are the founding ancestors of an age undreamed of in human history. Your great-grandchildren will be looking back on you, hopefully with pride.
NEPTUNE conjunct SOUTH NODE ♆ ☌ ☋
There can be a fuzzy, confused quality to this relationship, partly because you never know what it is going to bring to you, and partly because what you receive as a result of being together is difficult to put your finger on. You may find that just when everything is becoming clear and you think you know where you stand, something comes along to put your mutual positions together in doubt and you find you are on muddy ground again. Shifting winds will seem to dog you and there is almost a quality of intent about it, as if someone were pulling the rug out from under you in revenge for unknown and perhaps only imagined wrongs. Whatever the reason, it will be difficult to have your feet firmly planted on the ground here, but that doesn’t mean disaster, but only that you need to be ready to change direction, to bob and weave, to steer with the wind and tack like real sailors instead of expecting to go from point A to point B in a straight line. The more you lean on your expectations, the more you will be disappointed, and the more you look on life as an adventure that will float you to yet unimagined shores, the more likely it will become just that. When life is a dream, you can only dream on, and you may find you’ve got a better grip on it than the rest of the more hard-headed populous.
NEPTUNE square ASCENDANT ♆ □
You may have a bit of an image problem with this relationship, both in regard to your exterior image and your self-image. It may be difficult to convince others to take you seriously or to really understand what it is you do together as on first glance they will make an incorrect estimation of you. It’s not that you aren’t credible particularly, just that you look like you do and are something other than what is truly the case. It may be your clothes, your physical appearance, or the vibes they think they’re getting from you, but whatever it is it doesn’t match and you may have to adopt appropriate camouflage or avoid doing important deals in person where such confusion may arise. Similarly, you may be equally as puzzled about yourselves and keep chasing for a “reason” to be together, some external goal for your conjunction which justifies your remaining together yet eludes your grasp. In fact, you really don’t need one, and your relationship (or anyone else’s) is quite enough reason unto itself so don’t bother worrying yourselves over it. If you must look for reasons, borrow a leaf from mountain climbers’ book of motivation: because it’s there.
SATURN in EIGHTH HOUSE ♄ in 8th
This is a somewhat difficult position financially, particularly as credit becomes the dominant force in economics, as you may find it too difficult to come by when you need it or ignore the implications of how you handle it and therefore not use it to your best advantage. Whether you think you need it or not, it will be good to do what is necessary to maintain a reasonable credit rating if only to get along in the system as it stands. This inclination to simplify also extends to structures and processes of reality that have to do with time and the aging process. You can too easily take for granted that things are as they are because they have always been that way, a sort of “in-the-now” timelessness that can leave you high and dry when the relentless causes that time grinds so fine trip you up because you hadn’t bothered to investigate them as they unraveled. This is not so much the result of a devotion to living each moment for itself but a worry about what you might find out if you looked too deep or probed too far. Yet these very things which are so elusive are in a way the bedrock on which you will come to rest in times of difficulty, so it will be well to chase after the unknown and plumb the depths of areas you are inclined to avoid so they do not sneak up on you. Reality is a continuum from which you arose and will return to, and your greatest defense may lie in increasing your knowledge of that fact.
NORTH NODE in TENTH HOUSE ☊ in 10th
Responsibility and reward are the key concepts behind the Moon’s north and south nodes and the houses where they fall you will find to be the classrooms of life where your most important lessons may be learned. A concentration on the tenth and fourth houses means that circumstances will repeatedly bring you back to a focus on public and private life, where one begins and the other ends, and how they reinforce each other or conflict. The emphasis will be on the public side, and as a professional relationship this will prosper, as you find increasing opportunity to make commitments outside the home. The problem will be to see that it doesn’t get out of hand and you find yourselves driven your exterior connections because you have taken on more than you can handle. This can be particularly damaging on the home side, where surprises both good and bad await you and will require your attention when they appear. If you don’t have the time to spare for reworking and mending on the inner front, you may find your support lines crumbling and you no longer have the backing to continue on the public front. It can be a tricky situation to balance, mainly because it is unpredictable and you don’t have access to the kind of control you would like to maintain. But then, that’s what learning is about, and once you have discovered what you came together for, the lesson will be a fruitful and profitable one.
MOON in ELEVENTH HOUSE ☽ in 11th
Your immediate reaction to situations will tend to drive you closer together and at the same time draw upon the special closeness that you already have. It will be easy for this relationship to develop into a deep friendship with all the joys and creativity which that implies. This is a very good position for the Moon. Where problems arise, the tendency will be not to blame each other but to assume good faith on each other’s part and work it out with a smile. It is also likely that you can fairly easily work your way up in the world of social relationships, as you will know just who to befriend and who will lead you to a dead end. This is at least in part because of an ability to spot the same kind of natural communication in others that you have together, often a major indication of a successful personality. Thus you will often find support in your efforts without having to try as hard as others do. Things will just tend to come more naturally, without a struggle, though you may not be able to put your fingers on the reasons. Relax and enjoy it, because that is in fact the key: your ability to not worry about how to make things go well, but just to let them roll along in your favor.
MOON conjunct VENUS ☽ ☌ ♀
Love and beauty abound in this relationship, even if it is only a professional one, and a great deal of emotion is expended presenting yourselves in the best possible fashion. You look good together, because you care a lot about it and make it an art form more than just a facade to impress other people. This can induce some jealousy and competition, not in each other but in those who feel they are somehow less attractive than you are, which is regrettable, because you aren’t out to put anybody down, you just like to be your best. You treasure your feelings as well as your appearance, and handle them with the utmost care so as not to offend or express yourself in an emotionally harmful way. In this respect, you would make great parents or be good at any other pursuit that required a loving, nurturing approach. It is also good for working in the arts where an innate love and recognition of beauty are a primary motivation. If this relationship at times seems too good to be true, just relax and enjoy it, because it will likely be as pleasant as it seems. There are few aspects where it is difficult to come up with anything negative to say about it, but this is definitely one.
MOON conjunct MARS ☽ ☌ ♂
This relationship can have its rough spots and you may often find yourselves jumping into situations you should have had the restraint to stay out of. A general tendency toward rashness comes from a high level of emotion and emotional reactions which are acted upon without first working them through. You will have strong feelings about each other and about things in general, and you will be very likely to express them strongly as well, which can cause disagreements if you are not careful, but it also means that when you care, there is no doubt about it and you don’t hide it. Thus your relationship can sometimes turn into a firestorm of emotions; love, anger, passion, joy, all expressed in the extreme. Once you realize this, you should go to some lengths to be forgiving of the angry remark made impulsively or the inappropriate and embarrassing response that should have been suppressed. It’s not done out of spite or foolishness, it’s just that you bring on these sorts of things in each other and they have their good side as well as their bad, so take one with the other. Any way you look at it, in this relationship you’re in for a ride, so fasten your seat belts and try not to run too many red lights!
MOON square SATURN ☽ □ ♄
There is emotional hesitancy in this relationship that is likely to put distance between you and cause you to pull your punches as a functioning unit as well. Part of this may be manifested in a natural reaction of criticizing first and asking questions later. When you accent the negative, it tends to be a self-fulfilling prophecy and things turn out as poorly as you expect. It will be good to look for the bright side and emphasize it, even if it seems like only a glimmer. Another problem may be a disinclination to give full emotional disclosure. When you hold back from each other, you won’t be playing with a full deck and it will be easy to misjudge each other’s motivations and difficult to cooperate. One remedy is to conscientiously go a second mile with each other. When you would normally stop — whether it be in conversation, work, or even lovemaking — pick up the pace and keep on going. You will be surprised how much you have left in you and what you have been missing out on by dying out too soon. The negative effect of squares is best counteracted by repeated efforts to correct the situation until you can see your trail of errors to a corrected and stabilized pattern of behavior. The desired effect here is to raise your emotional energy level and bring a quicker and fuller level of response to each other and to the world around you.
VENUS in ELEVENTH HOUSE ♀ in 11th
A convivial love of intimate friendship and companionship suffuses your relationship which favors achieving what you want. Because you love and appreciate the special personal connections you make, you will find yourselves appreciated in return, not only in the emotional sense, but often in the social and professional sense. When you mix good feelings with business, you get more business. It’s amazing how many people fail to make this observation. You’re not likely to make this mistake. Still, the lesson is in the inner feelings of affection you seek and produce in each other and among others, which by nature elevate all concerned. It is your ability to exteriorize and apply to others the personal care and freedom of your feelings that will put you in demand as a resource of love and harmony in the outside world. The effect of this can make you a bit exclusive, if you do not take care, as it will push you ever higher on the social ladder, something that you may come to feel is deserved and which, of course, is not. Your rise or fall will be due to sincerity and happenstance, so hang on to your modesty and you’ll do OK! When fortune smiles, smile back.
VENUS square SATURN ♀ □ ♄
It can be very difficult to fully open yourselves up to this relationship and explore all the potential for enjoyment that it offers. This may be because of a limiting social situation which prevents you from becoming fully engaged or it may be because you feel you have to hold back for some internal reason — a misplaced sense of propriety or just plain guilt. In any case there is a built-in set of inhibitions here that lead you to expect disappointment and therefore set yourselves up for it. For obvious reasons, personally and professionally this can be damaging. If you don’t fully commit yourselves to go for the brass ring, you’re not going to get it. It’s as if you don’t really want it. Well, you may not, and that is OK, too. If you don’t set up a lot of expectations for each other, you won’t be disappointed and the difficulties presented by this aspect will be largely defused. If you want this to be a big commitment however, you will have to stand back and see what opportunities are presented and don’t take no for an answer until you have gotten everything you want. Even so, you will have disappointments, but rather than dwelling on them, brush them off and go for the next goal. What can cripple you is not the reality of the situation but your attitudes toward it. Keep telling yourselves your glass is half full, not half empty, and eventually you will fill it up.
MARS in ELEVENTH HOUSE ♂ in 11th
Because a great deal of effort and energy will go into maintaining and improving this relationship, it has a lot going for it. In fact, when all else fails, you are more likely to pay attention to each other than anyone else. The care and feeding of this partnership will be its most pleasant aspect, and the more you do for each other the more you will want to do. You will likely have success in cultivating friendships in the best of places and the fact that you are together will give you access to connections that neither of you could have made alone. This is primarily because you insist upon keeping good feelings at the forefront and making enjoyment of life a primary reason to be together. For a love affair, this position is ideal, with great attention not only to sexuality but to the most tender aspects of intimacy that make love into friendship and vice-versa. On the professional level, your ability to work amicably together without a second thought will allow you to move swiftly and trustingly on a handshake agreement while others are still negotiating their positions. If there is any problem here, it might be one of too much optimism, as the assumption of success together is a foregone conclusion, though not a realistic one in every venture. Nobody’s perfect, but you’re likely to feel like the exception to the rule. If anything will do that for you, this position of Mars will. Enjoy.
MARS square SATURN ♂ □ ♄
There can be what might be characterized as an energy crisis in this relationship, where you find you run out of steam before the job is done or don’t have the get up and go to throw yourselves into it in the first place. This can apply in any facet of life, so it can equally cool off your sex life or cause you to drop the ball in crucial negotiations with a competitor. Even though it may come across as a weakness, its origins are in a propensity to censor your actions so that you can’t deliver the follow-through that is needed in a one-two punch. This may occur because one of you may feel the other somehow disapproves of what is going on, or it might come from simple, overt criticism of the way you take action together. The result will be the same, however, and basically the remedy will be the same as well. Simply delegate more energy to any given task than you think you will need, and don’t stop until you’ve expended it all. If you do that, the chances are you’ll just have enough, at least at the beginning. Ultimately, this aspect leads to great economy of energy and extreme precision of motion, but only after you have honed the technique down over a long period of time. In the meantime, avoid laying blame on each other for something that is, essentially, a natural obstacle. You are not doing this to each other, yourselves are both having it done to you as a function of circumstance. Muster the extra effort, put smiles on your faces, and try some more.
JUPITER in ELEVENTH HOUSE ♃ in 11th
Close friendship, its nature, development and preservation will be an important focus of your relationship, and by and large a pleasant one indeed. Many of your greatest joys will come from bringing people together for mutual betterment, which often will bring betterment on yourselves in the process. It’s kind of a vicious circle turned happily upside down: by caring and doing favors for someone else, either personally or professionally, you earn their appreciation and favors in return. This raises you up a notch, inside and out, and your first inclination is to try it again on a higher level, where again it repeats. Because you appreciate the best and strive for it, not only for yourselves but for the world at large, your environment will tend to treat you in a kindly fashion in return. Whereas some would say you will be blessed with good fortune, it is more that you embrace good fortune and it embraces you back. Thus you don’t use it up, but reinvest it — a lesson you will not have to be hard-taught unlike some others. If you are painted as starry-eyed idealists at times, there may be more than some truth to it, but you will put your ideals to work for you rather than just hoping something will come of them. “Realists” are too-often folks who just don’t follow-through and reciprocate when they know they ought to.
JUPITER sextile URANUS ♃ ⚹ ♅
There is a very inventive and creative streak to your relationship that allows you to experiment and to be especially innovative without suffering much of the dangers which going overboard in that direction can engender. When you grow together, it will not necessarily be at all in the same ways or directions as your peers, and that makes it the more interesting for the newness of the ground you break. Personally, you are likely to give yourselves a lot more freedom to be yourselves, even when that means being different from each other, because as long as it doesn’t go to extremes, vive le difference! As long as at least one of you benefits from an experience and neither are hurt, you will be willing to try out anything, which will open up your lives to so many rewarding possibilities from which others shut themselves off because of fear or prejudice. In the professional world, this same principle applies, and your ability to open yourselves to new and unusual solutions to otherwise intractable problems will make you successful innovators financially and socially. There is more than one way to approach even the most ordinary challenges, and you’re likely to discover quite a few options no one had been willing to try, and everyone will be the better off for it. Moreover, because you are sensible about the choices you select to experiment with, you will find much less resistance to your innovations than others who go to greater extremes or make a point about how different they are.
JUPITER trine NEPTUNE ♃ △ ♆
There is a strong idealistic and spiritual underpinning to this relationship that is not preachy or overstated but buoys up your feelings to seek for the very best you can achieve. The drive upward is not a headlong gallop toward redemption nor is it a fool’s self-delusion that you can be saved by a given belief or dogma. Rather, it is a warm, inner knowledge that the spiritual call is real and that you will get there if you’re willing to take your time. Because this is a mutually supportive aspect, you have a natural talent to sense what is leading you where you eventually want to go and what is leading you astray. You also realize there is no such thing as a short cut in the spiritual quest, so you aren’t easily sidetracked by promises of instant enlightenment. In a personal love involvement, this allows you to retain the physical joys of sexuality while adding the heightened experience of using it as a basis for a spiritual union. On the professional level, this will mean you have the highest possible ethical standards, something that will make you trusted and respected in whatever pursuit you may have chosen. You know that short term gain cannot supplant long term values without losing something far greater than a few quick bucks. When people put their faith in you, they know they will not be disappointed.
JUPITER sextile PLUTO ♃ ⚹
There is a quiet certainty to the way you innovate and grow within this relationship that won’t quit and won’t take no for an answer. The reasons for this lie in a mixture of faith in what you are doing and the willingness to use necessary force to accomplish your tasks. When you see an opportunity, it takes on the quality of a mission, wherein you may feel there is more than just your personal interests at stake and that somehow greater environmental forces are helping sweep you along to realize it. Often that is literally the case, as you will have a feeling for what the wave of the future is, but even if you aren’t strictly in tune your clear determination can win the day over forces aligned against you without quite such a clear self-mandate. When they hesitate and you don’t, you win. Of course this is a big help in the professional end of things, as you can be a quiet steamroller against others who would rather give ground to than put up a fight. Be sure you’re right, then go ahead, as once you have taken action you may well find that it cannot easily be undone. Personally, this will give you a feeling of inner validation from being together, that you are indeed more than the sum of your parts and that when you stand united you can accomplish much more than when you stand alone.
SUN in TWELFTH HOUSE ☉ in 12th
This is the most difficult house position the sun can have, and as such carries with it very serious challenges that must be met head on in order for this relationship to succeed. You will first likely find that you have an unerring sense of how to tread on each other’s sensitive points, and you will easily mistake weaknesses for strengths and vice-versa in each other and in judging the potential of the relationship. If it is true that you learn the most from your mistakes, you have discovered a great reward here, one that after great patience, commitment and understanding, can offer many compensations. If you were looking for a diagnostic tool to spot and strengthen your weak points, you’ve got that here, too, and you are likely to uncover them in each other with great (and often unintentional) regularity. If your reaction is to condemn, blame, grieve, rage, resign, resent, or lay anything but patience and forgiveness on each other, this will self-destruct before too long. If you look at it as a Ph. D. course in service and self-understanding, where the focus is to welcome problems as challenges to growth instead of as obstacles to each other, then you may have more than a diamond in the rough. Expect the worst, and it will get better and better; expect unearned bliss and you will perish! The question here for both of you is not only whether you can do it in time (eventually, you will), but whether you’ve got the time to do it. Not every challenge in life must be met right away, and it might be the happier and wiser decision to let this one go until later.
SUN conjunct JUPITER☉ ☌ ♃
Your relationship has a wonderful, expansive feeling about it that makes you feel you could take on just about anything. The fact is, you probably can, and you will certainly be willing to give it a try. You are likely to be the eternal optimists, and by simply having a positive attitude you will make things go right for you. Generosity and good-heartedness are never in short supply, and you will always volunteer to go that extra mile without ever being asked. Professionally this is a very good position as it favors creativity and growth even during hard times. If there is any problem here, it might be a penchant for overdoing things or not knowing when to quit because everyone else has run out of steam. Do remember that others may not be quite so fortunate or filled with enthusiasm as yourselves, and that your own physical stamina may not be as great as your emotional readiness to keep on going. But with that one caveat, you can pretty much depend on this relationship being a special resource for both of you to enliven and rejuvenate yourselves with every time you are together, though for the aforementioned reasons, you may also need to take a rest from time to time and catch your breath.
SUN trine SATURN ☉ △ ♄
There is a very robust stability to this relationship, where the energy flows along very well-establish lines and serves as a protection against the sudden buffets and abrasions of life. You will not need to throw a party to express your care and concern for each other and your friends, but quiet get-togethers which better display the kind of grace and dignity you want to express are the order of the day. There is a natural conservation of energy here as well, and you are more likely to be together for the long haul than for a quickie. By careful corralling of your internal resources and dissemination of them only where they are really needed, you will have a lot more stamina than most around you. This works well in personal or professional circumstances, though perhaps better in the latter, as the emotional element is somewhat restricted and channeled here and mad passion is less likely than good control and wise allocation of resources. Nevertheless, there is not much bad to be said about this very supportive aspect, which will not only shore up your own relationship but can also make you a joint shoulder to lean on by those who have their act less together. When you have the opportunity to share, try to do so, as it not only helps out others but keeps your survival skills well-honed so they don’t get rusty on you down the road.
SUN trine NEPTUNE ☉ △ ♆
There can be a high spiritual flow to this relationship, as you can connect very comfortably on spiritual issues and tend to agree upon the dreams and ideals you pursue in life. Whereas others may tend to chase illusions and figments of their imaginations, you have pretty much got your feet on the ground in this respect, being able to sort out what can reasonably be achieved and what is just pipe dreams. Further, you feel quite strongly motivated to see that what can be done realistically, is. Communication can go on between you with great ease at a non-verbal level and frequently will, leaving others somewhat mystified about how you both know what’s going on when they don’t. It might be well to explain yourselves now and again, even if just for the exercise of putting what you feel into words so that others can share them also giving another view on your own reality. Natural talent for communications, like anything else, require keeping your techniques in trim and developing interchange with others to see how they do it, even though it is not as well as you do. What you make up for in ease of delivery, they may achieve through struggle and hard work, suffering illusions until the truth heaves into sight. Then your strengths become reborn and reinforced within yourselves.
MERCURY in TWELFTH HOUSE ☿ in 12th
This is a very difficult and challenging position for Mercury, because it forces you to explore the dark side of yourselves and the world around you, and you may not always like what you find. It will make you great troubleshooters, because you’ll have a nose for finding out where the trouble is. It makes it very difficult to keep secrets from each other (or from others, unfortunately), so you will need to be very open and willing to admit your shortcomings in the interests of improving them. This can be a great position for deep self-understanding, but it will take a lot of mutual tolerance to let each other make mistakes and go on forgiving, remembering that this is how you learn and grow, even when it is painful. For this reason, yours is a relationship that should not be taken on lightly, as it will take up a lot of intellectual and emotional time to make it come to fruition, and if you just ignore the way things develop you will be wasting each other’s time and courting disaster. Ask yourselves if there is that much room (and patience) in your lives to succeed at this sort of venture. If the commitment is strong, or if circumstances compel, go for it. If not, you might consider sparing yourselves and looking for greener pastures.
MERCURY conjunct ASCENDANT ☿ ☌
Communication is the front door of your relationship and when people see you together they see articulation, clarity of thought, which is an advantage in social situations. In fact, you will always find a lot to say, both to each other and to anyone you mutually deal with. You may find that just being together makes you better able to put into words what you might otherwise have had difficulty expressing. Thus you may feel safe from worry about not being able to talk to each other, for you will always be able to say exactly what you think. What you really mean in your hearts may not be what your heads are saying, however, and it would be good to keep that in mind, so that you will not only listen to what you say but attend to what you feel. Professionally, this position can only be an advantage, as communication and the understanding of technology and the manipulation of information is the key to the future and you are bound to improve each other’s read on anything in that division. Because you will always be there with a ready word, you will also have an aura of youthfulness when together which can give you a lift emotionally and an extra advantage in a culture where youth is worshipped beyond its merit.

RELATIONSHIP ASTROLOGY REPORTS
A relationship chart is simply a horoscope interpretation made up from the midpoint in time and space between the birth/natal charts of two different people. Like any Birth/Natal Chart, this physical time mid-point takes on a life of its own that may be unique from that of the two individuals from which it was born.
Perhaps the maximum benefit of all may be an expanded awareness of the structure of relationships and the realization that you have a great deal more power over how they proceed than you might previously have thought.
